Sound QualityQ: How do I ensure best possible sound quality for the people in the other end of the conference? A:∙Use softphones on computer USB port or softphone apps on mobile phone. Softphones use wideband audio quality, which gives better sound quality than narrow band. Narrow band isseen on mobile phone networks.∙Avoid meeting rooms with high reverberation (echo)∙Speak directly into the SP 10/20.∙Do not have any laptop screens between your mouth and the SP 10/20.∙Keep objects 50 cm away from the SP 10/20∙Use network cable instead of WIFI∙When using a mobile phone, ensure that the mobile volume is set to maximum.∙Lync speaker default volume is at ~40%. Turn it up for higher volume. See details in the Lync section at the end of this FAQQ: How does the microphone pick up the sound and where is the microphone placed?A: The microphone is omni-directional. It picks up sounds in a 360 ° angle around the SP 10/20 and is placed below the surface in approximately 7 o’clock position below the answer call button.Q: Music on USB sounds good. Can it be the same on the 3.5 mm jack connection?A:Yes. Press and hold the “Mic” button until the LEDs turn red. The microphone is muted and sound is optimized for music reproduction. If a USB call is detected on the USB, SP 10/20 will change to speech mode. When the USB call is terminated, SP 10/20 will change back to music mode.Connectivity and user interfaceQ: Can I connect the SP 20 to a cell phone and a soft phone at the same time?A: Yes. The SP 20 acts as a mixer with full duplex, so calls are connected together. Just plug in both USB and 3.5 mm jackQ: Does SP 10/20 have Bluetooth?A: Our philosophy is that SP 10/20 will often be used for in-promptu meetings. This requires quick set-up which is best achieved by wired connections – just plug-in and talkQ: My SP 20 don’t turn on when co nnected via 3.5 mm jack plug to my device. Why?A: SP 20 turns on when it detects a bias voltage on the microphone terminal. If you just play music for example, the device may turn off the bias to save power. You can force the SP 10/20 on by press and hold the red and green buttons for 5 seconds. Please note that SP 20 does NOT turn off automatically if it has been turned on manually. This can also be used when listening to music from a MP3 player.Q: Can I play/pause/skip track when I play music on the SP 10/20?A: On SP 20 it is possible. Use the green buttonQ: Can I connect the 3.5 mm jack in SP 20 to deskphones?A: No. The volume and microphone levels are not guaranteed to match those of the desk phone.Q: Can I connect the USB plug in SP 10/20 to deskphones with USB port?A: We only guarantee to work properly with Cisco 8961, 9951 and 9971. You need to change manually to the Cisco interface type:∙Plug USB into phone∙Simultaneously press “Hook On” (Red button) and “Mute” until all Mute LEDs start to blink either red or blue∙Red = PC softphone mode, Blue = Cisco mode∙Keep pressing until the Mute LEDs changes color to the desired mode.∙If you release the buttons before the desired mode is indicated, SP 10/20 will not change the mode.∙When you release the buttons, the speakerphone will restart in the desired mode.∙If Cisco USB mode is enabled, call control will not work with Lync and HeadSetup.Q: Why can’t I unmute on the SP 10/20 microphone, after I muted on the computer button?A: SP 10/20 can control application specific mute functions. It can not control the PC master mute (microphone button on PC/Laptop). No applications can control the master muteQ: How is the built-in battery charged and how long talk time does it have?A: The battery is 600 mAh and is charged via the USB port at 100 mA. When only the 3.5 mm jack is connected, the battery will last for 8 hours – depending on volume.Q: What voice prompts are there, and can I disable them?A: There is a voice prompt for low battery indication. It can not be disabled. PerformanceQ: Why does the volume drop when we speak at the same time as the other end?A: When SP 10/20 detects speech, it will optimize the microphone path. This is done by reducing the speaker volume. This will kick in after 2 seconds of speech from the far end.Q: What is the power output level?A:∙ 2.8W into 4ohm < 10% THD using 5V supply (USB Connected)∙ 2.2W into 4ohm < 1% THD using 5V supply (USB Connected)Q: Why does sound distort on high levels on the USB version?A: SP 10/20 needs 500 mA from the USB port to play at max volume. If the USB port cannot deliver that, SP 10/20 will continue playing, but distortion will occur.Q: Is there any noise canceling in SP 10/20?A: Yes, we have several noise reduction algorithms. They will remove constant noise, such as ventilators and some echoLyncQ: How is the Lync version different?A: To the user there is no difference, except that Lync optimized products get a higher priority when Lync decides what audio device to choose.Q: Is there an optimal setting in Lync’s sound properties?A: During the call, set the speaker volume to max in the call window:ServiceQ: Are the batteries replaceable?A: NoQ: Are there any serviceable parts?A: No. To maximize sound quality and performance, it has been necessary to seal the entire SP 10/20 acoustically. All internal cables are fixed with adhesive to avoid rattling. It requires special tools and skills to assemble the SP 10/20.。

These waves propagate along the rods and are reflected at the ends. The sound is picked up using microphone probes. With the long rods, oscilloscope traces show clearly deline-ated oscillating pulses. The short rods exhibit si-nusoidal oscillation due to the formation of stand-ing waves. From the length of the rods and the interval between two pulses or the period of the sinusoidal oscillation, it is possible to calculate the speed of sound specific to the material in question. Equipment set 1018468 is designed for a mains voltage of 115 V (+/-10%), while set 1018469 is for 230 V (+/-10%)Required equipment:1 Equipment setfor propagation of sound in rods 1018551 1 USB oscilloscope 2x50 MHz 1017264 2 HF cables 1002746Fig. 1Experiment set-up∙ Lay a test rod on one mat and a microphone probe on another (Fig. 1).∙Connect the microphone probe to input A of the microphone box and position it at a dis-tance of about 1 mm from one of the ends of the test rod.∙Take note of the instruction manual for the microphone box. Set the microphone box to maximum gain and its mode to Signal (se-lector switch in the top position). Use an HF cable to connect the output of the micro-phone box to channel CH1 of the oscillo-scope. Example oscilloscope settings could be time base: 40 μs/div, vertical deflection: 2 V/div DC; trigger: source CH1, type edge, mode normal, threshold 1 – 2 V.Note:Correct choice of trigger threshold and the strength with the rod is struck are key to the successful execution of these experiments. In normal mode, the oscilloscope trace will be fro-zen when the signal amplitude drops below the trigger threshold. If the trigger level is too low, the start of the oscillation will be overwritten and only the decay will be displayed. If the trigger is too high, then there will nothing displayed at all if the rod is beaten gently..∙ Use the beater to strike the rod on the oppo-site end to the microphone probe (Fig. 1). Such a pulse-like excitation creates a sound wave which propagates along the rod.6.1 Sound propagation in long rodsIn long rods, the oscilloscope trace exhibitsin-stances of oscillation which are clearly distinct from one another (Fig. 2).Fig. 2 Oscillation pulses in a 400-mm stainless steel rod struck with a pulse-like beat.6.2 Sound propagation in short rodsIn long rods, the oscilloscope traceexhibits si-nusoidal oscillation due to the formation of standing waves (Fig. 3).Fig. 3 Sinusoidal oscillation in a 100-mm stainless steel rod struck with a pulse-like beat.6.3 Determining the speed of propagation oflongitudinal sound waves Long rods:∙ Read off the time T 1, e.g. between two max-ima of the distinct oscillations, from the oscil-loscope trace with the help of the scope’s cursors.∙ Calculate the speed of sound c from T 1 andthe length of the rod L , e.g. for the 400-mm steel rod (see 6.1):x 20,8m m4938162µs sL c T ⋅===. Not that the sound wave will have traversed twice the length of the during time T 1. Not that the sound wave will have traversed twice the length of the during time T 2.6.4 Transverse sound wavesIn solid bodies, it is also possible due to shear-ing forces for transverse sound waves to occur. ∙ Set up the experiment as shown in Fig. 4.Use the 400-mm stainless steel tube as the sample. Make sure that the distance be-tween the microphone probe and the test rod is about1 mm. Example oscilloscope settings could be time base: 20 μs/div, verti-cal deflection: 2 V/div DC, CH2 1 V/div DC;Fig. 4.Note:The strength with which the rod is struck affects the quality of the oscilloscope traces. In order to attenuate or damp standing trans-verse waves, the rod can be gently pressed against the mat in the middle with the flat of the hand.Set up the trigger threshold to suit the height of the pulse as indicated in the note under sec-tion 6.Fig. 5 Oscilloscope trace of a transverse wave in a 400-mm stainless steel rodFig. 5 shows an oscilloscope trace for genera-tion of transverse waves in a 400-mm rod. C22.2NO. 60065QUICK STARTWARNING: Please read the Safety Instructions before using the speaker.1. MOUNT SPEAKER TO 1 3/8” (35mm) PA SPEAKER STAND (not included)Use one hand to lift the speaker by the handle and use your other hand to support the speaker as you guide it onto a conventional PA speaker stand.2. MAKE SURE POWER SWITCH IS OFFThe “O” indicator on the switch is pushed in.3. PLUG IN THE SPEAKERPlug the included power cable into the speaker IEC Input Module first and then into the wall outlet.4. TURN MASTER VOLUME DOWNMake sure the master volume is turned all the way counter-clockwise.5. TURN THE SPEAKER ONThe “|” indicator is pushed in. The speaker may take a few seconds to turn on completely.6. PLUG IN THE INSTRUMENT OR MIC CABLEPlug your instrument or mic cable into Ch1 or Ch2.7. ADJUST THE GAINAdjust the gain to the appropriate level for your instrument or vocal microphone by turning the control clockwise. An LED will flash red to indicate clipping the input stage. Pushing the input too hard may cause unwanted distortion.8. UN-MUTE CH1 (or Ch2 if you chose that channel)Check the mute light. If it is lit, then un-mute the channel by pushing the mute button. The light should now be off.9. ADJUST THE MASTER VOLUMETurn the master volume knob clockwise to the desired volume level.10. ENJOY!CONTROL PANEL1. POWERThe universal IEC input will accept any voltage 100VAC – 240VAC. We have supplied the appropriate power cable for your region. There are no user accessible fuses. If you experience a problem, please contact LR Baggs or your regional distributor/dealer.WARNING: Never use a 3-Prong to 2-Prong adapter on the power plug for any reason. This is very dangerous and can lead to electric shock, injury, or death. The power switch will turn the unit on and off. The “|” indicator at the top of the switch is on and the “O” indicator at the bottom of the switch is off. You should always have the switch in the “off” position when plugging in and unplugging the power cord.2. INPUTSChannels 1 and 2 feature ¼” and XLR combo jacks to accommodate instruments as well as microphones and D.I. systems.3. PHANTOM POWERIMPORTANT NOTE: You should always have the channel muted, the gain turned down, or the master volume down when activating or deactivating the phantom power button. This control supplies +48V phantom power on the XLR input for products requiring phantom power, such as a condenser mic.4. PADAdjusts the input between line and mic level to accommodate different signal levels.5. MUTEBoth channels have a push button for muting the signal. Push this button and an LED light will indicate that the channel is muted. Because it is a channel mute, this function will not mute the speaker, only the incoming signal of Ch1 or Ch2.The aux input will NOT be muted using the mute functions so that you may play background music.6. PHASEPress this button to invert the phase. Usually one phase will sound better and/or provide better feedback resistance. We recommend trying both phases each time you set up.7. GAINThis control combines the gain and individual channel level of both the XLR and the 1/4” input onto one control. Turn clockwise to increase the gain until the LED shows slight clipping at your loudest playing level and then back it off a little until the clipping light goes away. You will need the appropriate amount of gain to get the best sound and signal-to-noise ratio, but too much gain can cause unwanted distortion.8. REVERBBoth channels have individual reverb level controls. The reverb select button adjusts the decay between short, medium, and long. Select a decay length and adjust the reverb level control on each channel to your desired level.9. THREE BAND EQThe universal EQ section on each channel consists of bass, mid, and treble controls that help balance a wide variety of instruments and vocal mics for the mix.10. MASTER VOLUMEThe master volume sets the level of the sound coming out of the speaker. The main output also has a limiter on it. The clip LED will light as the limiter begins to engage. There should not be much of a sonic change caused by the limiter. It simply limits the volume to keep from overheating the speaker driver.11. AUX INPUTS AND VOLUMEThese auxiliary inputs accommodate both 1/4” (TRS summed stereo) and 1/8” for an MP3 player. The aux volume control sets the level of the auxiliary input. A clip light will flash when the input reaches the maximum possible level.12. MIX IN AND OUTThe mix input and output provide a way to daisy chain additional speakers or allow you to connect an external mixing console with an XLR cable. The output is a balanced XLR male jack.MANUFACTURER’S GUIDELINESThe speakers and electronics in the Synapse have been tested under relentless and grueling conditions beyond the recommended use of the system. This was done in order to ensure that the Synapse will withstand the everyday use and abuse of a roadworthy product. However, as with all loudspeakers, some care is required:1) Do not play in direct sunlight on very hot days for extended periods of time or thespeakers and/or power amp can overheat and be damaged.2) Do not play at volume levels above the maximum specified SPL, when the clip lights orlimiter lights are continually lit while playing, or when there is audible distortion.3) The Synapse is a full range PA system. Great care has been taken to add seamless limitingand protection for the speakers so that many types of instruments and music can be played through it. However, the Synapse uses an 8” woofer and may not sustain high peak levels of energy below 75Hz for extended periods of time. Reduce the playing level if playing low frequencies from a keyboard, bass guitar, recorded music, etc. or pair with a subwoofer for low energy support.4) The Synapse can play at high levels and is not as susceptible to hot spots due to its widedispersion. This helps reduce blaring high SPLs and feedback. However, as with all speakers, be careful to not play at unsafe SPLs for extended periods of time so that hearing loss does not occur. Also, do not bring microphones within range of the speaker where feedback can occur. This can cause hearing loss and potentially damage the Synapse drivers if done excessively.5) The finishing, plastics, wood, and metal in the Synapse housing were selected for strengthand durability as well as their aesthetic properties. The provided slip cover will help protect it, but is not intended to replace a tour road case if that is needed. Please protect and secure the Synapse appropriately in cargo areas during transportation so that it will continue to look as good as it sounds.1-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTYRegister this product at /registerLR Baggs Corporation warrants that the LR Baggs Synapse you have purchased shall be free from defects in parts and workmanship if used under normal operating conditions for a period of one year from the date of purchase.
