2018届高考英语(人教)大一轮复习领航课时规范训练:选修六 Unit 4 Global warming Word版含答案
课时规范训练(二十九)Ⅰ.阅读理解AFor a long time the packaging industry has been attacked for using what is thought as large amounts of packaging, choosing materials which are felt to have high impacts on the environment, and for being responsible for littering and overflowing landfills. In a study performed by WRAP, one of the first to study food waste in the UK in 2012,the most frequent responses when consumers were asked about packaging were “uses too much material” and “bad for the environment”. The conclusio ns of these reports highlighted that the degree of the problem has been largely underestimated: at least 30% of food produced in the world is wasted. These figures are similar no matter if you are in the developed or developing world. However, two publ ications from crossindustry work groups were published recently, and have managed to reset the discussion to take into account the benefits of packaging for sustainability(可持续性). The first publication,“The Global Protocol on Packaging Sustainability”, describes an agreed common approach towards measuring packaging sustainability metrics(指标), so that the industry is not competing based on the definition of a metric, but rather competing based on performance. The second was, “Packaging in the Sustainability Agenda, A Guide for Corporate Decision Makers”,which highlighted the contributions of packaging to the three aspects of sustainability:packaging protects products and prevents waste (environmental aspect); packaging enables efficient business conduct (economic aspect); and packaging provides consumers with the benefits of the products it contains(social aspect).Packaging performs indeed a wide variety of functions throughout the value chain and contributes to reducing food waste by protecting ingredients(佐料)and products during transportation and by delivering familysized packages. Food waste could be avoided for single households if they are provided with the choice of pack sizes meeting their consumption patterns and are not forced to buy larger packs that they may not be able to finish before the useby date. Despite the fact that smaller sized packs use more packaging, the fact that food waste is reduced would nevertheless decrease overall environmental impacts of the packed product.1.It has long been thought that ________.A.larger quantities of food are wasted in developed countriesB.WRAP is the first authority to study food waste in the UKC.packaging does great harm to the environmentD.packaging offers a powerful means to reduce food waste2.According to the two publications in Paragraph 2,________.A.an agreement should be reached on measuring packaging sustainabilityB.the industry should compete based on the definition of sustainability metricsC.smaller sized packs promote less packaging and purchase among consumers D.sustainable packaging is ecofriendly, economically practical and socially beneficial3.The author's attitude towards packaging is ________.A.approving B.negativeC.casual D.doubtful【语篇导读】本文介绍了包装对环境是有害的。

2018届人教版选修六一轮复习:Unit4Globalwarming单元学案设计(20页)2018届人教版选修六一轮复习:Unit4单元学案设计单元话题阅读What is Global Warming? The Earth as an ecosystem is changing, attributable in great part to the effects of globalization and man. More carbon dioxide is now in the atmosphere than has been in the past 650,000 years. This carbon stays in the atmosphere, acts like a warm blanket, and holds in the heat —hence the name …global warming.?The reason we exist on this planet is because the earth naturally traps just enough heat in the atmosphere to keep the temperature within a very narrow range - this creates the conditions that give us breathable air, clean water, and the weather we depend on to survive. Human beings have begun to tip that balance. We've overloaded the atmosphere with heat-trapping gasses from our cars and factories and power plants. If we don't start fixing the problem now, we?re in for devastating changes to our environment. We will experience extreme temperatures, rises in sea levels, and storms of unimaginable destructive fury. Recently, alarming events that are consistent with scientific predictions about the effects of climate change have become more and more commonplace. As the world heats up, the public simply goes coldIf you wanted to question whether global warming is indeed upon us, last week was not the time to do it. Two weeks before the official beginning of summer, a heat wave baked the eastern third of the U.S. and Canada, driving temperatures high into the 90s and even 100s. At the same time, a flurry of scientific paperswas released that seemed to explain all the late-spring suffering. In one study, French researchers reported that heat-trapping greenhouse gases are at their highest levels in 420,000 years. In another, U.S. scientists found that 57 species of butterfly may be altering their migratory patterns in response to changing heat patterns. In light of all this, a sweltering public must have been convinced at last that it's time to do something to cool off the overheated planet, right? Wrong. Even as the temperature was climbing, a new survey by the American Geophysical Union found that Americans are less concerned than ever about combatting global warming. "The more we talk about warming," says the study's director, John Immerwahr, "the [more the] public's concern goes down."Such an environmental disconnect may not be much of a mystery. Environmentalists complain that over the past two years industry groups have launched a coordinated advertising campaign to torpedo the 1997 Kyoto treaty, which requires industrial nations to reduce greenhouse emissions. More than $13 million has been spent on ads to block ratification of the treaty by the U.S. Senate. "The purpose of the ads was to convince most Americans that there isn't a problem or that it's too expensive to fix," says National Environmental Trust spokesman Peter Kelly.Environmentalists also criticize President Clinton for what they believe is his failure to press the issue. Only last week, Clinton moved for Kyoto treaty changes that environmental groups see as industry-pleasing loopholes. Says Daniel Weiss, the Sierra Club's political director: "Timid leaders communicate hopelessness." And hopelessness breeds indifference. If suchpopular so-whating persists, Immerwahr warns, the public may begin grasping at phony solutions to global warming. At the end of last week, some people took comfort from the report of a vast haze of pollutants that collects over the Indian Ocean in the winter, but that researchers only recently studied. Filthy as the cloud is, it does deflect solar radiation, and that could lead to cooling. But scientists warn that we cannot simply pollute our way out of global warming. The soot drops from the hazy atmosphere in weeks, whereas greenhouse gases remain for centuries. The way out of this gridlock, environmentalists say, is to show it's possible to reduce greenhouse gases without sinking the economy. Solutions include cleaner cars and better wind- and solar-power technologies. Says Greg Wetstone, program director for the Natural Resources Defense Council: "When these kinds of options become available, people will feel less hopeless." Of course, it's also possible that only when people feel less hopeless will they press their leaders to make the solutions available.注(1):本文选自Time;06/21/99, p62, 3/4p, 2c。

Unit 4 Global warmingⅠ.阅读理解A(2017·山东济南高三高考模拟考试)Thrift stores are a refuge (避难所) for countless items from landing in garbage piles. Value Village, for example, saves more than 650 million pounds of clothing from landfills (垃圾填埋场) each year, making it one of the largest recyclers of used garments in the world. Their stores give a second life to 1.8 million pounds of clothes every day, which is equal to 600 midsized cars. Almost 100 percent of clothing and textiles are recyclable, yet 85 percent of them end up in landfills. It's estimated that the average person throws away 70 pounds of clothing a year.Lindsay Coulter is the socalled “Queen of Green” with the David Suzuki Foundation, educating people on how to live a greener life by making changes around the house. She says that donating or shopping at thrift stores is an excellent way to exercise all three of the three R's:reduce, reuse and recycle. She says, “Whether it's a purse or a pair of shoes, it's really worth considering going to thrift stores as another point of contact to help reduce your consumption.”Coulter points out that since landfills are airtight, textiles take longer to break down. “I'd imagine things like an old towel, a rag or an old Tshirt will last a really long time,”she says. T he beauty of thrift shopping is that the supply is neverending, so if you don't find what you're looking for one day, it's likely to show up in no time. One person who knows this quite well is Jodi Jacyk, costume specialist in the Department of Theatre and Film at the University of British Columbia. She says the majority of items for the university's productions are purchased secondhand. Because of her shrinking budget, items like clothing and shoes are thrifted from Value Village. “We are constantly thri fting and we reuse costumes for many years. Thrift shopping is a much easier, cheaper way to do things,”she says. The next time you need to lighten your closet, take the opportunity to go thrift shopping to lighten both your carbon footprint and your financial burden at the same time.【解题导语】本文主要介绍了一种环保的生活方式,即去慈善商店捐或购买二手衣物。

B(2017·山东济南高三高考模拟考试)People need to seek out new foods because the world has so many mouths to feed. As of 2015, there are more than seven billion people on Earth, according to the United Nations. And by 2100 that number may double. Feeding all of these people means not only improving the way foods are grown, but also finding new sources of nutrition. And that_quest is becoming ever more urgent. If nothing changes, within 35 years, the world's appetite will be greater than the amount of foods produced. That's according to a report released last year. It was prepared by the Global Harvest Initiative, a private agriculture group based in Washington, D. C.Global warming, too, is changing food production. Scientists predict that rising temperatures will reduce the growth of important crops like wheat, corn and soybeans. Lowincome developing countries will be hit the hardest. When harvests fall, crops become more expensive. And since those foods are also used to feed animals like cows and pigs, meat prices, too, will rise. All over the world, researchers are racing against the clock to figure out how best to feed more people in a fastchanging world. And some surprising ideas have begun to come up. Two years ago, scientists introduced the first burger made from meat grown in a lab. The project cost more than $ 300, 000, but it's a start. Other researchers are developing seeds that can survive high temperatures and drought. Still others are finding ways to improve the genes of meat animals so they produce more meat and can stand the heat.A gloomy (悲观的) forecast for the planet isn't the only reason to study foods for the future. It's a creative quest that will inspire people who can think in new ways about existing plants and animals —even insects. These researchers have used their talents in ways that even they never would have predicted.【解题导语】本文主要讲的是在全球变暖的环境下,人们应如何应对日益膨胀的人口的温饱问题。
