Fish jumped out of their bowls and ponds.At about 3:00 am on july 28,1976,some people saw bright lights in the sky.The sound of planes could be heard outside the city of Tangshan even when no planes were in the sky.In the city,the water pipes in some buildings cracked and burst.but the one million people of the city,who thiught little of these events,were asleep as usual that night.At 3:42 am everything began to shake.It seemed as if the world was at an end!Eleven kilometres directly below the city the greatest earthquake of the 20th century had begun.It was felt in Beijing,which is more than two hundred kilometres away.One-third of the nation felt it.A huge crack that was eight kilometres long and thirty metres wide cut across houses,roads and canals.Steam burst from holes in the ground.Hard hills of rock became rivers of dir.In fifteen terrible seconds a large city lay in ruins.The suffering of the people was extreme.Two-thirds of them died or were left without parents.The number of people who were killed or injured reached more than 400,000.But how could the survivors believe it was natural?Everywhere they looked nearly everything was destroyed.All of the city's hospitals,75%of its factories and buildings and 90% of its homes were gone.Bricks covered the ground like red autumn leaves.No wind,however,could blow them away.Two dams fell and most of the bridges also fell or were not safe for travelling.The railway tracks were now useless pieces of steel.Tens of thousands of cows would never give milk again.Half a million oigs and millions of chickens were dead.Sand now filled the wells instead of water.People were shocked.Then,later that afternoon,another big quake which was almost as strong as the first one shook Tangshan.Some of the rescue workers and doctors were trapped under the ruins.More buildings fell down.Water,food,and electricity were hard to get.people begab to wonder how long the disaster would last.All hope was not lost.Soon after the quakes,the army sent 150,000 soldiers to Tangshan to help the rescue workers.Hundreds of thousands of people were helped.The army organized teams to dig out those who were trapped and to bury the dead.To the north of the city,most of the 10,000 miners were rescued from the coal mines there.Workers built shelters for survivors whose homes had been destroyed.Fresh water was taken to the city bu train,truck and plane.Slowly,the city began to breathe again.。

20世纪最大的一场地震就在唐山发生,短短15秒钟的地震就几乎将整个城市夷为平地,伤亡人数达到40多万!地震后城市一片凄惨,紧接着下午又发生了一次强烈的余震,幸存者感到悲哀的同时又产生了惊恐与不安。

在解放军的救援和全国各地的支援帮助下,被地震摧毁的唐山又开始得以复苏。

阅读部分在整个单元中起着举足轻重的作用,是点睛之笔。

学情分析经过高一一段时间的英语学习,学生初步掌握了略读、跳读等阅读技巧以及识别关键词、确定主题句、预测等阅读微技能,形成了初步的阅读策略。

部分学生的基础知识较为薄弱,运用英语进行交际活动的能力较差,然而他们学习比较认真,好胜心强,渴望在班集体里得到他人的承认,很在乎别人对他们的评价;求知欲旺盛,思维比较活跃。

部分学生的英语基础较好,能主动配合老师,愿意开口讲。

因此,只有设置使他们感兴趣的活动,因材施教,才能让所有学生投入到课堂活动中来。

二、教材分析(一)教材所处的地位及作用:本单元以地震为话题,介绍了地震这一自然现象,使大家对地震的起因、前兆、危害及如何在震中自救等有了较全面的了解。

尤其是告诉学生地震是可怕的,但是人们应尽力减少由地震引起的损失,相信未来是光明的。

本课A night the earth didn’t sleep是高中英语(模块1)第4单元的阅读课。

该课具体描写1976年河北唐山大地震的震前,震中和震后。

作者详细描述了地震来临前的一些不正常的自然现象及动物的反常表现,地震的来势汹汹,并在顷刻间将整座城市夷为平地和地震结束后人们勇敢地面对事实并及时地实施抢救和重建工作。

本课词汇量大,并运用了大量的动词,使得描写更为生动,文中还有不少复杂的数字,这又增加了文章的阅读难度,另外文章中出现了许多定语从句,对学生的语言阅读能力提出了更高的要求。

引导学生运用预测 , 把握主题和把握细节阅读策略对阅读材料进行理解与消化,为实现从语言的输入到输出,让学生们以小组为单位,利用所学的语言知识设计避免预测自然灾害的课题,讨论该课题的取向、目的、意义和方法,做出小组分工和策划书。

在教学过程中,贯穿“以人为本”的教育思想,以学生为中心。

始终关注全体学生的共同发展与提高,注意调动学生的积极性和主动参与的热情,注重策略指导与运用,以任务驱动促进动态生成。

(三)三维目标:1.知识目标:a)使学生了解自然灾害的相关词汇,并掌握复杂数字的表达法。
