Across the strait
The aim was to cross the English channel and capture a strategic landing site in northern France, setting the stage for Europe's second and final defeat of ຫໍສະໝຸດ Baiduermany. The battle attempt was to seize the landing site at Normandy and, on the 12th day of the landing, extend it to a width of 100km and a depth of 100km.

Onboard
At dawn, 1,136 royal air force aircraft dropped 5,853 tons of bombs on 10 bases on the German coast, which had been selected in advance. Later in the day, the eighth U.S. air force deployed 1,083 more bombers, dropping 1,763 tons of bombs on German coastal defenses half an hour before the troops landed. Normandy has five beaches from east to west -- sword beach, Juneau beach, golden beach, Omaha beach and Utah beach -- and is about 50 miles long. The first offensive units planned for the landing were five divisions, each taking a beachhead.
The post-war analysis
The d-day campaign was the largest amphibious landing campaign in the history of the world. It was a strategic campaign that laid the foundation for the opening of the second world war in Europe and played an important role in accelerating the collapse of fascist Germany and the situation in post-war Europe.
Preparation before attack
Based on the lessons learned from previous landings, three areas are more suitable: the peninsula of Constantine, Calais and Normandy. Normandy was eventually chosen as the landing beach. To deceive the enemy into believing that the landing was at Calais and not at cotaine, the Allies invented the first group based at Dover and appointed patton commander of the group. To avoid giving away the time of the attack, the Allies designated this day as D-day. After September 1943, Neptune was used to replace Overlord in all the planning documents of operation Overlord.
The main reason for the success of the allied landing
1. The successful organization of strategic deception 2. The absolute control of air and sea power 3.Adequate material preparation and thorough reconnaissance support 4.Realistic pre-war training. 5.The impact of bad weather.
Evaluation of war
Evaluation of war
"From the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor to the fall of Paris, from the battle of stalingrad to the capture of Berlin, no battle in world war ii was as significant as the d-day landing," said American historian Samuel newland. After the d-day landings, Eisenhower said, "there is no doubt that the battlefield of Normandy is one of the largest slaughterhouses that has ever been seen in the field of war. What I saw, only Dante can describe. Walking hundreds of yards at a stretch, all over dead and rotting bodies...
Comprehensive land
Allied casualties totaled 122,000, including 73,000 U.S. troops. The navy lost one battleship, three cruisers, eight destroyers, three frigates and 48 other ships. German casualties were 73,000, 41,000 captured and a total loss of 114,000.
The cause of Germany's defeat
1. Strategically, the forces had to be dispersed because of the many diversions 2. The sea and air forces are too weak and far too unequal 3. focusing only on the development of submarines and ignoring large surface ships
