A study, 36 in the latest edition of Ecology and Evolution, reveals the 37 age of some Amazonian tree species -- more than 8 million years -- and 38 shows that they have survived previous periods as warm as many of the global warming imagined periods 39 for the year 2100.The authors write that, having survived warm periods in the past, the trees will 40 survive future warming, provided there are no other major environmental changes. 41 extreme droughts and forest fires will impact Amazonia as temperatures 42 , the trees will stand the direct impact of higher temperatures. The authors 43 that as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions to minimize the risk of drought and fire, conservation policy should remain 44 on preventing deforestation(采伐森林)for agriculture and mining. The study disagrees with other recent researches which predicted tree species’ extinctions 45 relatively small increases in global average air temperatures.Study co-author Dr Simon Lewis (UCL Geography) said the 46 were good news for Amazon tree species, but warned that drought and over-exploitation of the forest remained major 47 to the Amazon’s future.Dr Lewis said: “The past cannot be compared directly with the future. while tree species seem likely to 48 higher air temperatures than today, the Amazon forest is being transformed for agriculture and 49 , and what remains is being degraded by logging, and increasingly split up by fields and roads.“Species will not move as f reely in today’s Amazon as they did in previous warm periods, when there was no human 50 . Similarly, today’s climate change is extremely fast, making comparisons with slower changes in the past 51 .”“With a clearer 52 of the relative risks to the Amazon forest, we 53 that direct human impacts -- such as forest clearances for agriculture or mining -- should remain a key point of conservation policy. We also need more aggressive 54 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to make minimum the risk of drought and fire impacts and 55 the future of most Amazon tree species.”36. The reasons why grades shouldn’t be used to assess students.(B)The day my fiancé fell to his death, it started to snow, just like the bottom hadn’t fallen out of my world when he fell off the roof. His body, when I found it, was lightly covered with snow. It snowed almost every day for the next four months, while I sat on the couch and watched it pile up.One morning, I shuffled(拖着脚步走) downstairs and was surprised to see a snowplow(扫雪机) clearing my driveway and the bent back of a woman shoveling my walk. I dropped to my knees, crawled through the living room, and back upstairs so those good Samaritans would not see me.I was mortified. My first thought was, how would I ever repay them? I didn’t have the strength to brush my hair, let alone shovel someone’s walk. Before Jon’s death, I took pride in the fact that I rarely asked for help or favors. I defined myself by my competence and independence. How could I respect myself if all I did was sit on the couch everyday and watch the snow fall?Learning how to receive the love and support t hat came my way wasn’t easy. Friends cooked for me and I cried because I couldn’t even help them set the table. “I’m not usually this lazy,”I swept. Finally, my friend Kathy sat down with me and said, “Mary, cooking for you is not a burden. It makes me fe el good to be able to do something for you.”Over and over, I heard similar words of comfort from the people who supported me during those dark days. One very wise man told me, “You are not doing nothing. Being fully open to your grief may be the hardest w ork you will ever do.”In many ways I have changed for the better. I have been surprised to learn that there is incredible freedom that comes from facing one’s worst fear and walking away whole.55. What made the author feel sad?A. Her fiancé’s sudden de ath.B. Constant heavy snow.C. Her fiancé abandoning her.D. Her job being refused again.56. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “mortified” in Paragraph 1?A. Surprised.B. Angry.C. Ashamed.D. Moved.57. It is _______ that helped the author out of darkness.A. herselfB. her friendsC. her fiancéD. a snowplow59. What’s the author’s purpose in the passage?A. To talk about her hardest work in her life.B. To talk about her real love between her and her fiancé.C. To tell us to walk out of hardest work confidently and bravely.D. To tell us the importance of friendship.(C)Sports is not only physically challenging, but it can also mentally challenging. Criticism (批评)from coaches(trainers), parents, and other teammates, as well as pressure to win can create too much anxiety or stress for young athletes. Stress can be physical, emotional, or psychological, and research has showed that it can lead to burnout. Burnout has been described as dropping or quitting of an activity that was at one time enjoyable. The early years of development are critical years for learning about oneself. The sport setting is one where valuable experiences can take place. Young athletes can, for example, learn how to cooperate with others, make friends, and gain other social skills that will be used throughout their lives. Coaches and parents should be aware(realize), at all times, that their feedback(反馈)to youngsters can greatly affect their children. Youngsters many take their parents’ and coaches’ criticisms to heart and find a flaw(缺陷) in themselves.Coaches and parents should also be cautious(careful) that youth sport participation does not become work for children. The outcome of the game should not be more important than the process of learning the sport and other life lessons. In today’s youth sport setting, young athletes may be worrying more about who will win instead of enjoying themselves and the sport. Following a game, many parents and coaches focus on(pay more attention to) the outcome and find fault with youngsters’ performances. Positive reinforcement should be provided in spite of the outcome. Research shows that positive reinforcement motivates and has a greater effect on learning than criticism. Again, criticism can create high levels of stress(pressure), which can lead to burnout.59. According to the passage sport is positive for young people in that .A. it can help them learn more about societyB. it teaches them how to set realistic goals for themselvesC. it enables them to find flaws in themselvesD. it can provide them with valuable experiences60. According to the passage parents and coaches should .A. help children to win every gameB. pay more attention to letting children enjoy sportsC. enable children to understand the positive aspect of sportsD. train children to deal with stress61. The author’s purpose in writing the passage is .A. to persuade young children not to worry about criticismB. to emphasize the importance of positive reinforcement to childrenC. to discuss the skill of combing criticism with encouragementD. to teach young athletes how to avoid burnout(D)When an ant dies, other ants take it out of the nest, often within an hour after its death. This behavior interests scientists and they wonder how ants know for sure—and so soon—that another ant is dead. One scientist recently came up with a way to explain this ant behaviour. Dong-Hwan Choe is a biologist, a scientist who studies animals and plants. He found that ants have a chemical on the outside of their bodies that signals to other ants, “I'm dead—take me away” when it is dead. But there's a question to answer: As we know, if an ant is dead, it stops moving. But when an ant is sleeping or knocked unconscious, it is also not moving. However, other ants don't move the living ant out of the nest. How do they know this ant is not dead? Choe found that ants have another chemical on their bodies, which tells nearby ants something l ike, “Wait—I'm not dead yet”when it is not dead. Choe suspects that when an ant dies, the chemical that says, “Wait I'm not dead yet” quickly goes away. When other ants detect the “dead” chemical without the “not dead yet” chemical, they move away the body.To test his theory , Choe and his team put different chemicals on ants. When the scientists used the “I'm dead” chemical, other ants quickly moved the treated ant away. When the scientists used the “Wait—I'm not dead yet”chemical, other ants left the treated ant alone. Choe believes this behavior shows that the “not dead yet”chemical overrides the “dead” chemical when picked up by other ants. And that when an ant dies, the “not dead yet” chemical fades away. Other nearby ants then detect the remaining “dead” chemical and remove the body from the nest.Understanding this behavior can help scientists figure out how to stop ants from invading new places and causing problems.62. What is the function of the first paragraph?A. Leading the following paragraphs.B. Showing the main idea of the passage.C. Introducing the background of the passage.D. Giving a summary of the passage.63. Which of the following has the closest meaning to the underlined word “overrides” in the fourth paragraph?A. is weaker thanB. is stronger thanC. is better thanD. is worse than64. What can we learn from the passage?A. Living ants can also be taken away when they are not moving.B. When an ant dies, it can tell others using a certain chemical.C. A living ant can pretend to be dead using a special chemical.D. Ants often use chemicals to communicate with each other.65. Which of the following descriptions about Dong-Hwan Choe is right?A. Choe did this study in order to stop ants from invading new places.B. Choe is a biologist who is only interested in animals, especially in ants.C. Choe first came up with an idea to explain this ant behavior, and then did some tests to prove his theory.D. Choe did the research on this ant behavior on his own。

江苏省2014届高三英语一轮复习阅读理解攻略训练(3)COn a wet Wednesday evening in Seoul, six government employees gathered at the office to prepare for a late-night patrol(巡逻). The mission is to find children who are studying after 10 p.m. and stop them.In South Korea, it has come to this. To reduce the country's addiction to private, after-hours tutoring academies (called hagwons), the authorities have begun enforcing a curfew (宵禁令)—even rewarding citizens for turning in violators. But cramming(临时死记硬背) is deeply anchored in Asia, where top grades have long been prized as essential for professional success. Before toothbrushes or printing presses, there were civil service exams that could make or break you. Chinese families have been hiring test preparation tutors since the 7th century. Nowadays South Korea has taken this competition to new extremes. In 2010, 74% of all students engaged in some kind of private after-school instruction, sometimes called shadow education, at an average cost of $2,600 per student for the year. There are more private instructors in South Korea than schoolteachers, and the most popular of them make millions of dollars a year from online and in-person classes. When Singapore’s Education Minister was asked last year about his nation’s reliance on private tutoring, he found one reason for hope: “We are not as bad as the Koreas.”In Seoul, legions of students who failed to get into top universities spend the entire year after high school attending hagwons to improve their scores on university admissions tests. And they must compete even to do this. At the prestigious Daesung Institute, admission is based on students’test scores. Only 14% of applicants are accepted. After a year of 14-hour days, about 70% gain entry to one of the nation’s top three universities.South Koreans are not alone in their discontent. Across Asia, reformers are pushing to make schools more “American”—even as some U.S. reformers make their own schools more “Asian”. In China, universities have begun fashioning new entry tests to target students with talents beyond book learning. And Taiwanese officials recently announced that kids will no longer have to take high-stress exams to get into high school. In South Korea, the apogee of extreme education, gets its reforms right, it could be a model for other societies. The problem is not that South Korea kids aren’t learning enough or working hard enough, but that they aren’t working smart. When I visited some schools, I saw classrooms in which a third of the students slept while the teacher continued lecturing, seemingly undisturbed. The government has repeatedly tried to humanize the education system, but after each attempt, the hagwons come back stronger. But this time, its reforms are targeting not just the dysfunctional symptom but also the causes. It is working to improve normal public schools by putting teachers and principals through rigorous(严格的) evaluations—which include opinion surveys by students, parents and peer teachers—and requiring additional training for low-scoring teachers. At the same time, the government hopes to reduce the pressure on students. Admissions tests for high schools have been abolished . Middle schoolers are now judged on the basis of their regular grades and an interview. And 500 admissions officers have been appointed to the country’s universities, to judge applicants not only on their test scores and grades but also other abilities.10. The six government employees were asked to _____.A. arrest the students who work late at nightB. reward citizens who turn in violatorsC. conduct a survey among studentsD. prevent students from studying too late11. In Paragraph 3 toothbrushes and printing presses are mentioned in order to____.A. tell us that they were invented in AsiaB. show that hagwons play an important role in people’s daily lifeC. show that private tutoring has a long historyD. tell us that civil service exams are of equal importance as them12. What can be concluded from the passage?A. Hagwons are the source of South Korea’s educational problem.B. Students in South Korea don’t learn efficiently.C. It is the teachers and headmasters who are to blame for the educational problem.D. Private tutoring is not common in Singapore.13. The main point of the last paragraph is that _____.A. it is very difficult to get rid of hagwonsB. the causes of hagwons have been foundC. teachers will have a hard time because of the reformsD. the government is determined to reform the present education systemDTaking a walk in the park could help those suffering from depression, researchers have found out. They studied whether a nature walk could improve the mood of people with clinical depression. The research also tested theories developed in a cognitive(认知的)science field known as Attention Restoration Theory, which presents that people concentrate better after spending time in nature or looking at natural scenes.According to ART, those in peaceful settings are not stricken with external distractions(外部干扰),which affect their working memory and attention systems. As a result, the brain can relax and enter a state of contemplation(沉思),which helps restore cognitive ability. For the latest study,20 people with clinical depression took part in an experiment that involved walking in a quiet natural setting and in a noisy urban setting. Before their walks, the participants completed a test to determine their cognitive and mood state, and were asked to think about an unsolved , painful memory. They were then told to go for an hour-long walk in a woodland park, or walk along a busy street. The routes were mapped out and the participants wore a GPS watch to make sure they went to the right place. After their walks were completed, they took part in a series of mental tests to measure their attention, and short-term and working memory. A week later, the participants repeated the study but went for a walk in a location they did not visit in the first experiment. As depression sufferers are characterized by high levels of contemplation and negative thinking , researchers doubted whether a lonely walk in the park would provide any benefit. But the mood was improved to a significant degree by both types of walks, the study found. The results also showed suffers had a 116 percent increase in attention and working memory after the nature walk compared with the urban walk.Writing for Journal of Affective Disorders,Dr Marc Berman, of the Rotman Research Institute, Canada, who led the research, said, “Walking in nature may act to supplement(补充) or improve existing treatments for clinical depression.”In 2008, another study by Dr Berman showed that adults, who had not been diagnosed with any illness, received a mental increase after an hour –long walk in a woodland park. Their performance on memory and attention tests was improved by 20 percent compared with after an hour- long walk in a noisy urban environment.14. Why did the participants wear a special watch?A. Because it could lead them to the destination.B. Because it could test their mood state.C. Because it could test their cognitive ability.D. Because it could remind them of a painful memory.15. Which is the right order according to the passage?a. The participants took part in a series of mental tests.b. The participants were asked to think about an unsolved , painful memory.c. How to Graduate from College with a High GPA (Grade Point Average)One Hour a DayOne of the most challenging things about college is time management. It’s not that you don’t have enough. In fact you usually have too much time, and as a result time gets wasted. If you take good notes in class, and spend one hour reviewing your notes every day before going to sleep, you make use of the power of the subconscious (下意识) to absorb information and by the time exams come around you’ll know all the material on a subconscious level, and you don’t have to sit up the night before exams. Considering the amount of free time you usually have in college, one hour a day is not much in view of the long-term benefits.Select Easy CoursesIn your first term of college, load up on as many “easy A’s” as possible. There are several reasons for this. The first term of college is full of excitement as it is, and there are probably even more today than ever thanks to Facebook, Twitter, and more. The last thing you want to do is add difficult coursework to this. The other reason why selecting easy courses is powerful is that it allows you to start off your college career with an extremely high GPA. Good grades have less and less of an impact on your GPA later in your college career and raising your GPA becomes much more difficult. Selecting easy courses in the first term also leaves room for the occasional failure when coursework becomes more challenging.Join (or Form) Study GroupsIf you go to a large public school where classes often have 700 plus people, study groups are an extremely effective way to ensure good grades. Study groups are often led by older students who have taken the course and received A’s in that particular course. They also often provide you with resources such as practice tests, practice problems, and many others that might not be provided by professors.Use Personal DevelopmentI can honestly say I didn’t involve myse lf in personal development when I was in college. Looking back I realize that I suffered from low self-respect and a very unhealthy self-image. Without doubt this had a negative impact on my GPA. But, if I had combined personal development techniques with the three steps above, my college career would have turned out very different. If you have already started school, I recommend developing a strategy that applies these four ideas to yourcurrent schedule. If you haven’t started school yet, do some research on easier courses and what study groups might be available. If you follow through and commit to the four recommendations above, you’ll set yourself up for a very successful first term, and hopefully a very successful college career. Good luck to all of you starting the college journey.第五部分 书面表达(满分25分)66.without 67.reviewing/memorizing/learning/studying/revising 68.Select/Choose/Take/Attend 69.beginning 70.high/good/remarkable 71.member 72.resources 73.involved 74.positively 75.success 第四部分 任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入最恰当的单词。

Naturally regulate your sleep-wake cycleMelatonin(褪黑激素)is a naturally occurring hormone(激素)that helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle.Melatonin production is controlled by light exposure.Your brain should produce more in the evening, when it's dark, to make you sleepy, and less during the day when it's light and you want to stay awake. However, many aspects of modern life can disturb your body's natural production of melatonin and your sleep-wake cycle.Spending long days in an office away from natural light, for example, can impact your daytime wakefulness and make your brain sleepy. Then bright lights at night—especially from hours spent in front of the TV or computer screen—can hold back your body's production of melatonin and make it harder to sleep, However, there are ways for you to naturally regulate your sleep-wake cycle, improve your body's production of melatonin, and keep your brain on a healthy schedule.Increase light exposure during the day☆Remove your sunglasses in the morning and let light onto your face.☆Spend more time outside during daylight.Try to take your work breaks outside in sun light, exercise outside, or walk your dog during the day instead of at night.☆Let as much light into your home/workspace as possible.Keep curtains and blinds open during the day, move your desk closer to the window.☆If necessary, use a light treatment box.A light treatment box can create sunshine and can be especially useful during short winter days when there's limited daylight.Improve melatonin production at night☆Turn off your television and computer. Many people use the television to fall asleep or relax at the end of the day.Not only does the light hold back melatonin production, but television can actually excite the mind, rather than relaxing it.Try listening to music or audio books, or practicing relaxation exercises. If your favorite TV show is on late at night, record it for viewing earlier in the day.☆Don't read from a backlit device at night (such as an iPad). If you use a portable electronic device to read, use an eReader that is not backlit, i.e.one that requires an additional light source such as a bedside lamp.☆Change your light bulbs.Avoid bright lights before bed, use low-wattage bulbs instead.☆When it's time to sleep, make sure the room is dark. The darker it is, the better you'll sleep.Cover electrical displays, use heavy curtains or shades to block light from windows, or try an eye mask to cover your eyes.☆ Use a flashlight to go to the bathroom at night. As long as it's safe to do so, keep the light to a minimum so it will be easier to go back to sleep.五任务型阅读Do we need an “Ivy League”?China may soon have its own “Ivy League”, with a union of top universities. The term originally referred to an athletic conference of eight top universities in the northeastern US. The Chinese version, which was officially started in mid-October, consists of nine famous universities, including Peking, Tsinghua, Zhejiang and Fudan. The union is supposed to result in student exchange programs, recognition of academic achievements, and other joint programs. The news of this Chinese “Ivy League” has received mixed responses from the public and press. Some negative critics have dismissed it as yet another example of the wishful copying of international practices without fully understanding them. Others say that the “Ivy League” is not necessary but that the union is a good idea, one that could promote academic development. So what’s your opinion on a Chinese “Ivy League”? Do we need one?Yes. Ivy League or not, nine of China’s best universities cooperating is a good thing. These universities combining resources could create a better environment for students and for research. It could also save a lot of time and resources because it would mean fewer unnecessary investments for some of the universities.Allowing students to move to or have exchanges with other universities could broaden their horizons, improve their social skills and create more employment opportunities. The results could be more important than lessons and achievements. The term “Ivy League” carries a sense of academic excellence, tradition and reputation. If borrowing such a term could encourage students’ and professors’ mental state and improve Chinese higher education, then there’s no reason not to do it.No. Universities should do some work on increasing cooperation instead of copying an “Ivy League” model. Many Chinese universities already have such cooperation with each other. If this cooperation were associated with the “Ivy League”, it would just distract (分散) attention and resources and have a negative effect. These Chinese universities are all state-run and most get their funding from the government. They’re quite similar to each other in many ways and more cooperation wouldn’t bring about as much potential ability as between , say, public and private, or Chinese and foreign universities.China should find its own way to develop world-class universities instead of by copying some foreign practices. We have our own unique conditions and foreign lessons often don’t apply well here.五任务型阅读creation6. less7. mentally/spiritually8. Attention9. similarities 10. copying。

江苏省2014届高三英语牛津版一轮复习攻略训练:任务型阅读

江苏省2014届高三英语(牛津版)一轮复习攻略训练:任务型阅读(2)(二)Self-Regulated Learning Today, people change jobs an average of seven times before they retire. Many of these career changes require new learning that must be self-initiated and self-directed. Thus, one goal of teaching is to free students from the need for teachers, so they can continue to learn independently throughout their lives. That is, to make them self-regulated learners. Self-regulated learners have a combination of academic learning skills and self-control that makes learning easier. What influences self-regulated learning? Knowledge, motivation and will-power combine to influence self-regulated learning.First of all, self-regulated learners have knowledge about themselves. For example, they know their preferred learning styles; what their interests and talents are: and how to take advantage of their strengths. These experts also know quite a bit about the subject being studied-and the more they know, the easier it is to learn more. They understand different learning tasks require different approaches. Further, they havemastered adequate learning strategies and tactics. For example, they know how and when to skim and how and when to read for deep understanding.Self-regulated learners are motivated by learning itself. They find many tasks in school interesting because they value learning, not just performing well in the eyes of others. However, knowledge and motivation are not always enough. Self-regulated learners need will-power. They won't give up easily. They know how to protect themselves from distractions—for example, what to do when attracted to stop working and have a cup of coffee.A model of self-regulated learning. Phi Winne and Allyson Hadwin put forward a 4-stage model.1. Analyzing the learning task. Learners examine whatever information they think is relevant in order to construct a sense of what the task is about, what resources are available, and how they feel about the work to be done.2. Setting goals and devising plans. What goals for studying might you set for a quiz covering only one chapter that counts just 3% toward your grade? Would you goals change if the test covered the last six chaptersand counted 30% toward your course grade? Your goal in turn affects the shape of your plans for how to study. Is cramming(突击学习) the best approach? Is it a better plan to study a half-hour each day?3. Enacting tactics and strategies to accomplish the task. Learners put their tactics and strategies into practice and monitor how well the plan is working. Are you reaching your goals? Is your progress rate fast enough to be prepared for the test?4. Regulating learning. Learners have to decide whether changes are needed in any of the three preceding stages. For example, if learning is slow:Do you need to review some prior material that provides foundations for the content you are now studying?Teaching toward self-regulated learning. To develop students' self-regulated learning ability, teachers should let students take an active part in finishing complex meaningful tasks; provide them control over their learning processes and products; involve students in setting criteria for evaluating their learning processes and products, then give them opportunities to make judgments about their progress using those standards.Title: Self-Regulated Learning(三)Nowadays, more companies are accepting working from home as a practical choice. If you’d like to work from home , use the following statements to convince your boss that you’ll be just as , if not more, productive at home as you will be in the office.Firstly, you cannot distract(使分心)colleagues when working at home . A recent survey of 800 job seekers looking for work-from home jobs found that the number one reason they wanted a work-from-home job was to avoid distracting their colleagues, but not to have more time for their families or to save on costs like business clothes, lunches out, and gas. When you work at home, you can remove this major distraction and devote all your attention to your work.Secondly, it can control how often you’re interrupted.A study by the University of California, Irvine found that workers are interrupted every three minutes, and that it takes more than 20 minutes to get back to the task after an int erruption. Half the time , we’re self-interrupting (checking emails, listening to talk radio, etc.), but the other half of the time, we’re interrupted byoutside forces--- loud noises, colleagues stopping by our desks, other people’s conversations in the o ffice, etc. We can cut back on 50%of the interruption by working from home.Thirdly, it takes less sick time and fewer personal days. People who are sick enough to call in sick tend to keep working if they can work from home. We’re not saying this is th e healthiest practice, but it’s the reality of what happens, especially if the sickness is only a slight cold or stomach bug. Working from home is a win-win situation for you and your employers because you’re still working , and you aren’t passing your ger ms (病菌) along to your colleagues. Of course, it works the other way around as well. If you’re working from home regularly, you’re not exposed to illnesses from your colleagues as well.In addition, it can make you more productive. Last year, Stanford University tracked the productivity of 250 employees who worked from home for nine months, as compared to those working in the office, and the results weighed heavily in the favor of those working from home. The employees who worked from home worked 11% more hours than the office-bound workersand their overall productivity was 4% higher than that of the office-bound workers.Of course, how productive you are when working from home depends a lot on you, the employee. How do you work without supervision? Are you self-disciplined or good at self-management? Can you avoid temptations like television, napping and shopping in the middle of the day? Some people prefer the office environment because it provides more structure and supervision, so before you jump into working from home, you need to first evaluate yourself.Working from home is a practical choice ParagraphoutlinesSupporting detailsAvoidance of distraction ●Those who seek work-from jobs mainly wish to leave their colleagues undistracted.●Whil e working at home, you can fix your (1) _________ on your work.Reduction of interruption ●P eople working in offices are interrupted frequently, and after an interruption, it israther a long time before they can pick up the(2)___________.●W e’re interrup ted either by(3)__________or by outside forces.●H alf of the interruptions can be reduced if we work from home.Advantages to both sick workers and employers ●I f you are (4) ______ ill , you can still work for your employer at home.●A t the same time, you can keep your colleagues separated from your(5)___________.●W orking from home regularly can guarantee your being (6)___________ to illnesses in the workplace.High productivity The workers who work at home are more productive than thosewho work in the (7)__________ by spending more time working .(8)__________affecting your productivity at home ●Whether you are self-disciplined and good at(9)____ yourself.●Whether you can rejectvarious temptations athome .●What kind of(10)________________you prefer.11页。

But no wadays people tend to be very cautious of helping strangers. R ecently our class had a discussion about whether we should hel p strangers. Opinions are divided on this topic. Some think we should try to help others whether they are stran gers or not. Helping others is a virtue, and it will make our socie ty more harmonious. Besides, to some extent, helping others is helping oneself. We may come across some trouble and need o thers' help some day. If everyone turns a blind eye to our troubl e and turns a deaf ear to our appeal for aid just because we are strangers to them, it’s hard to imagine what our world will be lik e.However, others are afraid that helping others can sometimes b ring us trouble or even put us in danger. Sometimes we are just misunderstood and thus have to pay the cost of kindness. In my opinion, we should try our best to help others when they are in need of help, but we should also protect ourselves to avoi d getting into trouble. Only if everyone tries a little kindness, will society be full of love and trust be established between people.第五部分:书面表达(满分25分)陈若琳,1992年12月12日生于江苏南通。

六书面表达
Dear Ms Li,
I'm very happy to have you as our English teacher.
As the world is becoming a global village, English is getting more and more important, so mastering English means we can see the world through a new window. As a result, the importance of learning English well can’t be stressed too much.
Compared with my classmates, my English is not so good. There are two main problems that often prevent me from making great progress in English. One is that I feel it hard to learn words by heart and the other is that I often feel nervous when speaking English in public. I think it is time for me to improve my learning methods and I need your help badly. Could you please give me some good advice on how to memorize new words quickly and correctly? Besides, if I could be given more opportunities to practice speaking English in class, I am sure I will build up my confidence
and overcome my shyness in expressing my ideas in English orally. Also, if you could recommend some English reading materials for me, I can read them in my spare time.
Thank you!

How we can build up a harmonious family
A harmonious family is essential to our personal development and our physical and mental health._________________________________________________________________________

How we can build up a harmonious family
A harmonious family is essential to our personal development and our physical and mental health. A harmonious family is always full of warmth, love and laughter. Parents and children love and show concern for each other. They also respect and understand each other. If a child grows up in a harmonious family, he is more likely to be cheerful and optimistic. Otherwise, he may be miserable and pessimistic. Meanwhile, parents in a harmonious family are sure to live happily and more healthily.
Since a harmonious family plays a very important role in our life , it is up to every family member to contribute to the building of such a family. First of all, parents should be a role model for their children and pay more attention to their own words and behavior. Besides, they must trust their children and often communicate with them.
As children of the family, we should also respect and understand our parents, and try to share their burdens. If
we do so, our home will always be harmonious. (157W)。
