In 1952 he made his home in Europe. In 1973 he was rewarded his second Oscar awards,because he made immense contributions to movie art of the century. After 44 years he rewarded his second Oscar standing ovation in the history of Oscar Golden Statuettes. Charles Chaplin died on Christmas Day in1977 at home in Switzerland.
Charlie Chaplin
Charles Spencer Chaplin was born in Londo -n, England, on April 16th 1889. His father was an actor; and his mother was known as an attractive actress and singer, who gained a reputation for her work in the light opera field. Charlie was thrown on his own resources before he reached the age of ten as the early de ath of his father and the illness of his mother ma de it necessary for Charlie and his brother to live on themselves. At 10 he began his professional life as a member of a troupe(艺术团) and act in the play of Sherlock Holmes, and finally became a star of Fred’s music company. Touring to the USA with Fred in 1913 ,he was employed by the Keystone Film Company, and in his second comedy,he created the character of a Little Tramp which became universally recognized and loved.

Charlot is the most famous character created by Charles Chaplin. He dresses in baggy pants(袋型裤), big shoes and a derby hat(圆顶帽). Chaplin made everything a contradiction: the pants baggy, the coat tight, the hat small and the shoes large. In order to make Charlot look old, Chaplin added a small moustache, which would add age without hiding his expression.
