Vail Marriott Mountain Resort
Vail Winter Weather Guide
Covered in grand mountains, flashing lights and snowy pines, Vail is perfect for explorers and people who love adventures alike. Whether skiing down the slopes for the first time or the hundredth, this guide will ensure that you're ready for everything this city has to offer.
Best Time to Vacation
December through to March tends to be the best time for those interested in skiing down the slopes in style.
Know Before You Go
Make the necessary preparations and reservations in advance:
• Ski and Snowboard Rentals(租赁):Don't have your own equipment! Vail Sports rents out a variety of skis and snowboards for all ages and abilities, as well as snow shoes and helmets.
• Clothing Rentals:For those not interested in purchasing hundreds of dollars of ski clothing for one vacation. Mountain Threads has a rental program just for you, where you can get mountain necessities like coats, pants and goggles(护目镜).
• Suncream:You might not think about getting sunburn, but it happens to skiers and snowboarders every day.
• Difficulty levels:It's important to know what level you're at before jumping on a ski lift and heading up the mountain. Use a free trail map and plan the slopes you're going to ski down ahead of time based on the following levels you'll find up the mountain:
• Green Circle:These are the easiest slopes.
• Blue Square:These indicate average to medium levels.
• Black Diamond:The most advanced slopes. Some mountains will feature double black diamonds, indicating even higher difficulty.

The air is thin and we have to rest several times on the shore hike from camp. To our left, snow-covered mountains disappear into clouds that seem almost close enough to touch. On the plain in front of us, we can just make out a herd of graceful animals. This is why we stay here.
Tibetan antelopes live mainly on the plains of Tibet. Watching them move slowly across the green grass, I'm struck by their beauty. I'm also reminded of the danger they are in. They are being hunted illegally for their valuable fur.
My guide is Zhaxi, a villager from Changtang. He works at the Changtang National Nature Reserve. The reserve is a safe place for the animals and plants of northwestern Tibet. To Zhaxi, protecting the wildlife is a way of life. “We're not trying to save the animals,” he says. “Actually, we're trying to save ourselves.”
In the 1980s and 1990s the population of Tibetan antelopes dropped by more than 50 percent. Hunters were shooting antelopes to make money. Their living places were becoming smaller as new roads and railways were built.
In order to save Tibetan antelopes, the Chinese government placed them under national protection. Zhaxi and volunteers watched over the antelopes day and night to keep them safe from attacks. Bridges and gates were added to let the antelopes move easily and keep them safe from cars and trains.
The measures were effective. The antelope population has recovered and in June 2015, the Tibetan antelope wasremovedfrom the endangered species list. The government, however, does not intend to stop the protection
program since the threat to the Tibetan antelope has not yet disappeared. Only when we learn to exist in harmony with nature can we stop being a threat to wildlife and to our planet.

An afternoon nap(午睡)is one of the joys of life, although too much napping could signal all is not well. In some cultures, people will have a daily nap — thisis fine. The warning comes when people start sleeping during the daytime, when they did not before. There is certainly a good reason to believe that daytime sleepiness — as in the Alzheimer's study — can be a marker of an underlying condition.
For most people, napping during the day is mainly a sign that you are not getting enough sleep at night, says Dr. Neil Stanley, a sleep expert. "If you feel sleepy during the day, you should think about taking a nap. That is what the body needs — it doesn't need to be kept awake with caffeine, it needs sleep. "The feeling to notice is "sleepiness", he says, not "tiredness", which could be more psychological and linked to stress.
So how do you nap well? The key thing, says Stanley, is how long your nap lasts. Choose either a 20-or 90-minute nap. "When you fall asleep, you'll quickly go through the lighter stages of sleep into your first period of deep sleep. You don't want to wake up in deep sleep because that's when you wake and feel worse than you did before. "Napping for 20 minutes means you will wake up before you go into deep sleep; napping for 90 minutes means you'll complete a sleep cycle.
Once you factor in the time it takes to fall asleep — some people are better at napping than others but, says
Stanley, "a healthy adult will fall asleep in between 5 and 12 minutes" — you can set an alarm, allowing a 30- to 40-minute period for a short nap, and up to two hours for a longer one.
A good time to nap is during the body's natural dip in the afternoon, between 2 pm and 4 pm. "You don't really want to be napping much pastthatbecause then you are going to be eating into your night-time sleep," Stanley says. The point, he stresses, is to get good night-time sleep, which would ensure you probably don't need to nap at all.
8. What does an afternoon nap indicate for most people?
A. Caffeine addiction.
B. Psychological stress.
C. Insufficient night sleep.
D. Potential physical illness.
9. What is the key to a good nap?
A. Duration.
B. Surroundings.
C. Health.
D. Stages.
10. What does the underlined word "that" in the last paragraph refer to?
A. A 30- to 40- minute period.
B. Between 2 pm and 4 pm.
C. Between 5 and 12 minutes.
D. A 20- to 90-minute period.
11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Why to phase a nap
B. When to take a good nap
C. What to learn from a nap
D. How to have a successful nap

I was at the hardware store the other day and overheard a woman tell Ed., the manager, that fall was her favorite time of year. Ed., because he liked to keep his customers happy, agreed that fall was a wonderful season, but I could tell he was lying.
I was going through my mind recently, trying to find sweet memories of fall. I failed. I met my wife in the summer and married her two summers later. My sons were born in the winter and summer, my granddaughter in the winter. I’ve been fried twice in my life, both in fall. One October, a truck carrying tofu ran a red light and hit me, destroying my favorite car, combining the three things I most hate - trucks, tofu and October.
I'm not saying fall is without its attractions. The leavesare beautiful. But fall's vacillation (立场摇摆)is troubling, its effort (努力)to please everyone, its continuous search for the middle ground to be all things to all people. Say what you will about summer and winter, at least they have the courage to keep their opinions strong, even if they kill us with extreme heat or cold.
I recently read a story of a man coming out of a three-month coma (昏迷). It started in early fall and ended
just as winter came. I hope if I were ever in a coma I would be just as lucky as the man.
Upon my awakening, one of my families who stood around my bed would ask. "Don't you remember anything from the past three months?"
"Not the first thing," I would happily report.
If I ever have enough money. I'm going to buy a second home inAustralia, so that when fall starts here, I can move there for three months, just when spring is starting.

A. Ed understood them and supported the customer completely.
B. Ed might hold a different opinion on the topic.

D. Ed thought they stood for most peoples' opinion.
13. What can we infer from Paragraph 2?
A.The author has a big and loving family.
B. The author is having a hard time at work.
C. It is important to follow the rules of the road.
D. Nothing good has happened to the author in fall.
14. Why does the author say the man in Paragraph 4 was lucky?
A. Because he slept fall away.
B. Because he ho sweet memories of fall.
C. Because hedreamed of fill many times.
D. Because he was met by his family when waking up.
15. Which of the following does the author most want to do?

(9). presses→pressed
(10). It→There

故将have改为had或去掉have。

conclusion后接同位语从句(the earth was not the center of the solar system),从句结构完整,不缺“是否”含义,用只起连接作用、无意义的that引导从句。

故将which改为that。

Only if you put the sun there the movements of the other planets in the sky made/make sense,“only +状语”放句首,主谓部分倒装,即助动词/系动词/情态动词+主语+部分谓语,本句把助动词did/do放在主语the movements of the other planets in the sky前。

故在there后面加did/do。

故将to改为for。

介词of后接宾语从句(was still my hometown),从句缺乏主语,用what引导。

故将where改what。

There is no doubt that(毫无疑问……)。

There
52.略。
