Passage1
Given that many people’s moods (情绪)are regulated by the chemical action of chocolate, it was probably only a matter of time before somebody made the chocolate shop similar to a drug store of Chinese medicine. Looking like a setting from the film Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Singapore’s Chocolate Research Facility (CRF) has over 100 varieties of chocolates. Its founder is Chris Lee who grew up at his parents’ corner store with one hand almost
always in the jar of sweets.
If the CRF seems to be a smart idea, that’s because Lee is not merely a seasoned salesperson but also head of a marketing department that has business relations with big names such as Levi’s and Sony. That idea surely results in the imagination at work when it comes to making different flavored(味道)chocolates.
The CRF’s produce is "green"made within the country and divided into 10 lines, with the Alcohol Series being the most popular. The Exotic Series---with Sichuan pepper, red bean (豆),cheese and other flavors---also does well and is fun to taste. And for chocolate snobs, who think that they have a better knowledge of chocolate than others, the Connoisseur Series uses cocoa beans from Togo, Cuba, Venezuela , and Ghana, among others.
1. What is good about chocolate?
A. It serves as a suitable gift.
B. It works as an effective medicine.
C. It helps improve the state of mind.
D. It strengthens business relations.
2. Why is Chris Lee able to develop his idea of the CRF?
A. He knows the importance of research.
B. He learns form shops of similar types.

D. He has a lot of marketing experience.
3. Which line of the CRF produce sells best?
A. The Connoisseur Series.

Passage3
A new collection of photos brings an unsuccessful Antarctic voyage back to life.
Frank Hurley’s pictures would be outstanding — undoubtedly first-rate photo-journalism — if they had been made last week. In fact, they were shot from 1914 through 1916, most of them after a disastrous shipwreck(海滩),
by a cameraman who had no reasonable expectation of survival. Many of the images were stored in an ice chest, under freezing water, in the damaged wooden ship.
The ship was the Endurance, a small, tight, Norwegian-built three-master that was intended to take Sir Ernest Shackleton and a small crew of seamen and scientists, 27 men in all, to the southernmost shore of Antarctica’s Weddell Sea. From that point Shackleton wanted to force a passage by dog sled(雪橇) across the continent. The journey was intended to achieve more than what Captain Robert Falcon Scott had done. Captain Scott had reached the South Pole early in 1912 but had died with his four companions on the march back.
As writer Caroline Alexander makes clear in her forceful and well-researched story The Endurance, adventuring was even then a thoroughly commercial effort. Scott’s last journey, completed as he lay in a tent dying of cold and hunger, caught the world’s ima gination, and a film made in his honor drew crowds. Shackleton, a onetime British merchant-navy officer who had got to within 100 miles of the South Pole in 1908, started a business before his 1914 voyage to make money from movie and still photography. Frank Hurley, a confident and gifted Australian photographer who knew the Antarctic, was hired to make the images, most of which have never before been published.
1. What do we know about the photos taken by Hurley?
A. They were made last week.
B. They showed undersea sceneries.
C. They were found by a cameraman.
D. They recorded a disastrous adventure.
2. Who reached the South Pole first according to the text?
A. Frank Hurley.
B. Ernest Shackleton.
C. Robert Falcon Scott.
D. Caroline Alexander.
3. What does Alexander think was the purpose of the 1914 voyage?
A. Artistic creation.
B. Scientific research.
C. Money making.
D. Treasure hunting.

Passage4
Learn Spanish? Finally quit smoking? Become a better cook? Whatever you’ve decided to achieve next year, you know that you’re probably going to fail. For this very reason some people give up making any resolutions altogether. British psychologist Richard Wiseman has done several surveys on willpower. Based on the successful people’s experience, he made a list of tips on realizing the goal for us.
As Wiseman explained on his blog back in 2013, your goals should be small and manageable, and you should record your success, tell others about your intentions, and, importantly, not beat yourself up over failing. Here’s the complete list of Wiseman’s advice:
1. If possible, make only one resolution — changing a lot of things at once is more difficult.
2. Think about your resolutions in advance and spend some time to reflect on them.
3. Don’t revisit past failures, but focus on new resolutions instead.
4. Focus on what you really want —don’t just go with what’s trendy.
5. Break your goal into manageable, exact steps with specific deadlines.
6. Go public — tell your friends, family about your goals, which will increase your fear of failure and you can also get support.
7. Create a checklist focusing on h ow much better your life will be once you’ve achieved your goals.
8. Whenever you make progress towards your goal, give yourself a small reward.
9. Document your journey — charts, spreadsheets, journals and other means of tracking your progress will keep it concrete.
10. Don’t beat yourself up and quit if you sometimes return to old habits — treat it as a temporary setback.
Good luck in 2016!
1. Richard Wiseman has done some researches on __________.
A. willpower
B. management
C. journey

D. It is small and easily manageable.
3. Which advice is suitable for you if you make progress and reward yourself?
A. Item 4.
B. Item 6.
C. Item 7.
D. Item 8.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. How to overcome difficulties
B. How to be successful
