• In the international trade, an enquiry is a letter written to a buyer or a prospective seller asking about the specification, quality, quantity of supply, prices, etc. of goods he wants to buy. In actual practice today an enquiry can be sent by fax or telex or E-mail in addition to a letter.

1. 与信件相比,便条格式简单明了。 2. 便条的日期明确,有时日期可能缩写或者不写年份,但在另外一些情况下 具体的时间点都要写明,在一些具体的情境这下只写具体的时间点也是被允 许的,只要不会给对方造成误解,任何一种日期格式都是可以的。 3. 便条正文的用词应当简单随意,并且口语化程度较高,有时候都不必用完 整的句子,如:人们可以用“key to back door under mat”代替“The key to the back door is under the mat.”(后门钥匙在垫子下面。) 省略、缩写和简写也经常在便条中出现, 如:(He) Wants a meeting today at 8. John of HP (is) arriving Mon. afternoon. (He) needs to be met at the airport. Sorry about not coming on time, but… Hope you’ll have a good time. 4. 结尾处不需要使用结尾谦辞(complementary closing),但需要注明姓名 ,除非在便条接收者明确知道你的身份时,可以仅用名字缩写或省略名字。 若要求对方回复而对方又不知道你的地址时,你的姓名和地址则都需要写清 楚。 5. 视便条接受者与写作者的关系,便条有时候也会比较正式,如在向比自己 地位高的人留便条,或向老师领导请假等情况下,表达相对正式些。如: Could I visit you at your office tomorrow afternoon to talk about my dissertation? Would it be possible for you to see me sometime tomorrow? I was wondering whether we could meet sometime tomorrow. I would be very grateful if you could see me sometime tomorrow.

How to classify Enquiries
询盘信函按功能可分为两种:一般性询函(general enquiry)和具体询 盘函(specific enquiry)。买卖双方初建交时,买方往往先发一般性询 函。一般性询函中买方仅仅意图确了解卖方更多情况,因而会索取商品 目录、价目单、样品、样品本、报价单或形式发票。收到以上资料后, 买方经研究,会就某一具体商品产生兴趣,继而发出具体询盘,具体询 问商品名称、规格、数量、单价、装船期、付款方式等。

What Is Enquiries
• 询盘(enquiry)又称询价,通常由买方向卖方提出,以了解所拟订购的 商品或货物的基本情况。询盘的内容可涉及:价格、规格、品质、数 量、包装、装运以及索取样品等,而多数只是询问价格。询盘不是每 笔交易必经的程序,如交易双方彼此都了解情况,不需要向对方探询 成交条件或交易的可能性,则不必使用询盘,可直接向对方发盘。
