Be A Lifelong Learner
Good morning, everyone!
I’m Li Hua, from Class 1 Senior 3.
Driven by fast advances in science and technology, the society is renewed every minute. People have to learn life long; otherwise, they will be crowded out in the fierce competition. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that people from different ages and backgrounds are dying for more knowledge in their lifetime.
Obviously, we can update ourselves via diverse channels: Learning centers in the evenings or on weekends are the places where most people tend to go. Libraries also seat more and more people thirsty for knowledge. Needless to say, the Internet offers us access to long distance learning.
Just as an old saying goes: “It’s never too late to learn.” Since there is no end to learning, let’s be a lifelong learner from now on.
Thank you for your listening.

Text 2

W: It opens at 8:00 on weekdays, but an hour later on the weekends.
Text 3
M: Could I borrow the book Gone with the wind, Ms. Turner?
W: I’m sorry. It was lent out. You know there’s a big demand for it.
Text 4
W: How about going to McDonald’s for lunch, Mr. Smith?
M: I don’t mind going there, but there’s something terrible, I think. It’s too noisy inside especially during the rush hour.
Text 5
M: Do you think it’s going to rain tomorrow?

M: How come?
W: Well, it’s been so dry lately.
Text 6
W: What’s the matter with you?
M: I’ve b een having headaches.
W: How long have they been bothering you?
M: Umm… They started about two months ago. Oh, no. It must be about three months ago.
At first, I thought as if I had flu because I had a running nose and a bit of a temperature.
W: I see. And do the headaches come on at any particular time?
M: They are usually worse in the morning, especially during the past two weeks.
W: Now let me check if there is anything serious.
Text 7

Text 8
M: Hi, Lisa. Nice to see you again. I hear that you’ve been to America during the summer vacation.
W: Yes! I went to New York for a summer course in English.
M: Wow, you were lucky. How long did you stay there?
W: About 50 days. I arrived there on July 5th and came back on August 25th.
M: How did you like the course?
W: It was wonderful. The teachers were nice. They taught us to listen, speak, read and write in English, but most of the time, we were doing speaking. One interesting I found was that American classes are different from ours because the students have a lot of more freedom. They can sit anywhere they like in the classroom. They can ask the teachers questions at any time during the class, and they are welcome to share their ideas with their classmates. I really like this kind of class.
M: How interesting! Maybe our teachers should try that.
Text 9
M: Ah, it’s good to be up. What a beautiful morning!
W: Uh, it’s a quarter to two. It’s not the morning at all. What are you doing in the kitchen anyway? M: Well, I’m going to make breakfast and check my email to see if anyone has responded to my advertisement for a new roommate.
W: Listen, who’s going to want to live with you? You can’t even take care of yourself.
M: What are you talking about? I get up early every morning at 6.
W: Add about 6 hours to that.
M: I always make nutritious meals.
W: I don’t think McDonald’s Big Macs and fries count.
M: I keep my room very tidy.
W: Uh, I think I saw some old dishes, empty pizza boxes, and some real dirty socks under your bed.
M: And I go to bed at a very early hour.
W: Do you call midnight early? Listen! Give it up. Unless you make some major changes in your life, your only companion will be your pet fish, Ralph.
Text 10
W: Hello, my name is Elsa Glen. I am an English teacher, and I have started a website to help you improve English as quickly as possible. Each of my online English lessons takes just 10-15 minutes to complete on a daily basis. And there are no advertisements to take your attention away. You can also download the sound files to your computer and access them and take your lessons again any time. I’ve designed the online English course to be a very easy, cheap and quick way to improve your English speaking, listening and conversation skills, and also to improve your listening scores in English exams.
Every day, you’ll learn some new English vocabulary, idioms and phrasal verbs. And you will feel more confident in working and making friends in English. You also learn correct English pronunciation.
I always make sure my online English lessons are short, interesting and easy to remember. My idea of learning English is that it is best for you to learn a little each day and remember it clearly. This idea doesn’t mean a new method, b ut instead, it is a concept I hope you can accept. Whether you are taking other English classes or not, and no matter what method you use, it can help you to achieve your English-learning goals.。
