II 阅读〔共两节,总分值50分〕
第一节阅读理解〔共20小题;每题2分,总分值40分〕
阅读以下短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最正确选项。

A
No one doubts that students should study languages, maths and science in high school, but some may object to the idea that they should study art and music as well. To them, these subjects are useless for students’ future and are not worth the time and effort. In my opinion, however, it is necessary for middle school students to study art and music.
Art and music are a precious culture legacy〔遗产〕, which bring us pleasure and enjoyment. Have you ever been deeply moved by Beethoven’s famous Fifth Symphony? Have you ever been fascinated by the colorful starry night produced by Vincent van Gogh in his paint? Have you ever longed for the moving love between the Butterfly Lovers when you hear this well-known Chinese melody〔曲调〕? Art and music are not only images and sounds, but something beyond them. They are the products of passion and human wisdom.
Art and music help make students more creative. Artists and musicians are considered the most creative people in the world. It is because art and music sharpen their senses and provide a different perspective (视角) for them to see the world. Many great scientists benefited from art and music. Einstein, the greatest physicist in the 20th century, as well as an excellent violin player, is a good example.
Enjoying art and music is also a good way to relax. Middle school students,
who typically carry heavy burdens of study, will definitely benefit from it.
To sum up, art and music should absolutely be included in the middle school courses, for they can bring students pleasure and relaxation.
26. According to the author, people who think art and music are useless for
middle school students __________.
A. don’t understand the value of art and music
B. don’t know the history of art and music at all
C. never benefit from artists and musicians
D. know little about the trend of future education

28. The example of Einstein is used to __________.
A. show the importance of creativity
B. prove that scientists are creative
C. encourage students to study art and music
D. provide students with a new way to see the world
29. Which of the following is an effective way for middle school students to study?
A. Relaxing themselves regularly while studying.
B. Attending concerts during holidays or after school.
C. Avoiding too much homework by studyting art and music.
D. Listening to music while studying language, maths or other subjects.
30. Which of the following is used to support the writer’s opinion?
A. Art and music help people become scientists.
B. Art and music provide people with more opportunities.
C. Art and music are beneficial to students in other subjects.
D. Art and music are helpful to make students creative learners.

Based on cultural traditions and the changing face of contemporary British communities, the Festival of Muslim (穆斯林) Cultures joins young people from Muslim and non-Muslim backgrounds together through the creation of innovative (创新的), high quality cultural activities.
We have been working with arts and educational institutions across the UK to promote the mainstreaming of Muslim cultures within UK everyday life. The Festival was created out of the need to encourage a better understanding between Muslims and
non-Muslims, to promote respect for Muslim cultures and to show how culture creates the pathways that connect us all together.
The program launched with a visit by the Festival’s patron (赞助人), the Prince of Wales, to the exhibition “Palace and Mosque” in Sheffield and since then there have been more than 100 events that have ranged from a Somali community day in Cardiff at the National Museum of Wales to a late-night Dance with Radio Tarifa (from Spain) and Dimi Mint Abba (from Mauritania) in the Royal Albert Hall and from a home-grown play in Nottingham about the Kashmir earthquake to the exhibition “Beyond the Palace Walls” at the Royal Museum Edinburgh of Islamic art from the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg.
We are now working on a number of long-term projects which stay true to our commitment to promoting Muslim cultures through arts collaborations (协作) and build on the extensive network of local, national and international partners that Festival has created. These include a three-year national program that connects young Muslims to their local cultural institutions; a UK Muslim cookbook; an exhibition of the Ottoman architect Sinan; and a project for schools around the 1000-year old story “The Animals’ Lawsuit against Humanity”.

Scientists have found two mammals believed new to science on the latest expedition to an almost lost world in Indonesia’s Papua Province Conservation International (CI) said in a statement on Monday. Scientists from CI and the Indonesia Institute of Science (LIPI) visited the Foja Mountains in June 2007, following a first trip to the area in late 2005 that saw them discover dozens of new plants and animals.
“During the June expedition, the team found two mammals, a Mallomys giant rat and a Carcartetus pygmy possum, one of the world’s smallest marsupials (有袋动物), both currently under study and apparently new to science,” CI said in the
statement. “The giant rat is about five times the size of a typical city rat. With no fear of humans, it apparently came into the camp several times during the trip,”said Kristofer Helgen, a scientist with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
The scientists also recorded the mating (交尾) displays of several rare and little-known birds for the first time. “It's comforting to know that there is a place on earth so isolated (孤立的) that it remains the absolute realm of wild nature," said CI vice president Bruce Beehler, who led the expedition. “We were pleased to see that this little piece of Eden(伊甸园) remains as attracting as it was when we first visited,” he added.
CI and LIPI plan another expedition back to the Foja Mountains in late 2017 or 2017. They expect to find additional new species of frogs, mammals, butterflies, and plants.
Activists have already warned that the forests in the area are under threat from large-scale forest destruction. Indonesia, which is losing its forests at the world's fastest rate, is struggling to save its rain-forest from being destroyed.
36.The writer’s purpose in writing the text is to __________.
rm us of more information about mammals in Indonesia

C.persuade people to believe there are more species in the world
D.tell readers scientists find two new mammals in Indonesia

A. Their camp.
B. The Foja Mountains.
C. Wild nature.
D. The expedition to Indonesia.
39. Besides the two mammals, what did they see in Indonesia for the first time?
A. The mating displays of rare birds.
B. Several new species of frogs.

D. A number of little-known plants.
40 Which of the following statements would the writer probably agree to?
A. No scientists had been to Indonesia for an expedition before.
