My Life as a Kid
Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm 10 years old. I'm in the 5th grade at Oakwood Elementary School. I've been told to write an essay about my life for English class, so here goes!
Being a kid is pretty great if you ask me. I don't have too many responsibilities or worries. My biggest concerns are making sure I get good grades, having fun with my friends, and trying not to get into too much trouble with my parents and teachers. Other than that, life is pretty chill!
I live with my mom, dad, and younger sister Sarah who is 7 years old. We have a cat named Whiskers who is super cute and playful. I really want to get a dog too, but my parents keep saying not until I'm older. One of my favorite things is playing outside with the neighborhood kids after school. We'll play tag, hide and seek, basketball, you name it! Getting some fresh air and running around is the best.
In school, my favorite subjects are math and science. I find them really interesting and the teachers make the classes fun with hands-on activities and experiments. My least favorite is probably history - I just find it kind of boring learning about old
events and dates. Sorry history buffs! I do pretty well in most classes though and try my best. Recess is definitely the highlight of the school day for me. Just getting a break to goof off and burn off some energy.
When I'm not in school, I love playing video games, watching cartoons and movies, reading comic books, and building with Legos. Mom and dad have to limit my screen time though, otherwise I'd just play games alllll day haha. Sometimes that leads to fights, but I know they're just looking out for me. My friends and I have sleepovers pretty often too which are a total blast. Staying up late, eating junk food, watching scary movies...what's not to love?
Some other things I enjoy are going to the park, swimming at the local pool in summer, getting ice cream from the truck, and going on vacation. A few summers ago, we went to Disney World which was absolutely amazing! I'm also really into sports like soccer, basketball, and baseball. I play on local teams and dream of becoming a pro athlete when I grow up. Or maybe an astronaut...or a video game designer...I can't decide!
Even though being a kid is super fun, there are some
not-so-fun parts too. I HATE having to wake up early for school, especially in the winter when it's still dark out. I despise doing
chores like taking out the trash or cleaning my room. Homework is pretty much torture too in my opinion. Why give us more work after spending all day at school?! Adult problems like bills, jobs, taxes, etc. are years away thankfully. Phew!
Another bummer is having to listen to my parents' rules and getting punishments if I break them. No TVfor a week?! How will I survive?! They just don't understand. They also embarsembarrass me sometimes in public by being super cheesy or overprotective. But I know they only do it because they love me. Still, it'ssoooooembarrassing!
Well, that's a decent overview of my life as a 10-year-old kid! Things are pretty great overall. I try not to take anything too seriously and just enjoy being young, having fun, and making amazing memories with my family and friends. Adult life with all its responsibilities seems SO far away still. Who knows what hijinx and adventures are still in store?! I'll do my best to soak up every minute of my childhood.
