To my family and friends,

what I need while I'm here so I decided to writ e you all and let you know that I don’ t need anything. At least not for me. I’ m asking all of you to send me a few 3to help the local children. Let me explain.
On 12 May 2009, in a small village here, 120 school age girls were4by a gas leak. Most have5but 6
are still in hospital. Even though the local government speaks about the6of education for both boys and
girls but most of these kids only attend school for four hours a day if they are even allowed to go. They are so
excited and7to learn, but then have to8things like being sprayed with acid or poisoned. Most of
these kids are poor and can9’a tpencil, pen or even paper to write on. So my co-workers and I are planning
a trip to several schools to promote10and to give these kids some of the11they need. That is where
all of you come in. If you can, please12whatever school supplies you currently have13.

二、阅读理解(共 5 小题;每题 5 分,满分 25 分)
阅读以下短文,从每题所给的 A 、 B、 C 和 D 项中,选出最正确选项,并在答题卡大将该项涂黑。
Some people think that success is only for those with talent or those who grow up in the right family, and others believe that success mostly comes down to luck. I ’m not going to say luck, talent, and circumstances don ’tcome into play because they do. Some people are born into the right family while others are born with great intelligence, and that’s just the reality of how life is.
However, to succeed in life, one first needs to set a goal and then gradually make it more practical. And, in addition to that, in order to get really good at something, one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours studying and
practicing. To become great at certain things, it ’ll require even more time, time that most people won ’tput in. This is a big reason why many successful people advise you to do something you love. If you don ’tenjoy what
you do, it is going to feel like unbearable pain and will likely make you quit well before you ever become good at
it.
When you see people exhibiting some great skills or having achieved great success, you know that they have put in a huge part of their life to get there at a huge cost. It ’s sometimes easy to think they got lucky or they were born
with some rare talent, but thinking that way does you no good, and there’s a huge chance that you’re wrong anyway.
Whatever you do, if you want to become great at it, you need to work day in and day out, almost to the point of addiction, and over a long period of time. If you ’re not willing to put in the time and work, don’texpect to receive any rewards. Consistent, hard work won’tguarantee you the level of success you may want, but it will guarantee that you will become rally good at whatever it is you put all that work into.
