Another financial expr ession is “run on the bank”. That is what happens when many people try to get all their money back from a bank. A “run on the bank” usually happens when people believe there is a danger that a bank may fail or close down. Newspaper reports about a bank crisis (危机) in Russia used that expression. They said the government acted because of the fear that the crisis would cause a run on the bank.
“Day trading” is a new expression about a system that lets investors (投资者) trade directly in an electronic market system. The system is known as NASDAQ, short for the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation. It was the first completely computerized stock market (股票市场). Day trading companies offer a desk and a computer system to an investor who wants to trade. Investors must provide fifty thousand dollars or more for the trading company to pay for the stocks they buy. Thousands of other investors do day trading at their homes.
A day trader keeps a watchful eye on stock prices. When he sees a stock rise in price, he makes use of the computer to buy shares of the stock. If the stock continues to rise in price in the next few minutes, the day trader sells out the shares quickly to make a small profit. Then he looks for another stock to buy. If a stock goes down, he may sell his shares and accept the loss.
The idea is to make a small profit many times during the day. Many day traders may break down in a week or so. Only about thirty percent people succeed in earning
enough money from their efforts to continue day trading.

My friend Brett had just gotten a dirt bike (泥土路摩托车) and a lot of other kids in my neighborhood knew how to ride. I also wanted to, but I didn’t even know the difference between the clutch (离合器) and the front brake. All the guys told me I couldn’t do it because I was a girl. I was determined to prove them wrong, so Brett let me try his bike. I wasn’t on for one minute before I fell off. He came over to see if I was okay, but then started laughing. I felt like running somewhere I wouldn’t be laughed at.
That night I told my dad the whole story about how I wanted to be as good as the guys and how I had embarrassed myself. He asked how much I really wanted to learn, then I told him I had wanted to ride for a year and it was everything I dreamed about.
A few days late r my dad told me he’d found a nice bike for a reasonable price. He brought it home and that was when I became the laughing stock of the neighborhood. All the guys thought it was a joke that I actually wanted to learn how to ride and I became known as a wannabe (模仿偶像者).
We took it one step at a time. My dad spent four long weeks teaching me everything I needed to know about the bike and the basics of riding. No one truly believed I could learn to ride except my dad. Day after day and night after night he worked with me, and I began to progress. I was so thankful. It meant so much that he would take time from his busy schedule to help me fulfill this dream.
Each ride on my dirt bike, I got a little better, and finally I was ready for
my first time on the trails. At first I couldn’t keep up and the boys had to wait for me. My bike constantly stalled and got stuck in the muddy creeks.
Things eventually got easier, as if I could ride with my eyes closed. Every time I rode on the trails I got a little better and the gu ys didn’t have to wait for me. I was still made fun of, not because I was an amateur or not good, but instead because they felt threatened that a girl could do what they did.
I cannot even remember how many nights I spent crying when I had lost my confidence because of those boys. Every time I needed a shoulder to cry on, my dad was there. He never let me give up and always had faith in me, even if I couldn’t do something right.
67. Why does the author write the passage?

Fighting is not only bad for you physically but also bad for you mentally. Getting into fights all the time could result in getting into trouble. It might even go on your permanent (永远的) record.
Fourthly, be prepared all the time. If you forget something in class, it will disturb both the teachers’ teaching and the learning of other kids. You should have all of your supplies in your backpack, not at home or in your locker. You can make a mental list of everything you need to have when you leave class.
Last but not least, you must improve your learning techniques. For example, pay a lot of
attention during class, go over class notes once a week and finish your homework in time. Especially, it is better to form the habit of asking your teachers or classmates for help when you have problems with your study. All these methods will

18-20How does television affect our lives? It can be helpful to those who carefully choose the programs that they watch and harmful to those who watch it too much.
In China, many people worry that children and young people are watching too much television. A survey of 300 youngsters in Shanghai last year showed that, on average,
they spent half of their free time, that is two and a half hours watching television,
and two-thirds of an hour reading stories. Another survey of school age children
in Wuhan found out that half of them said they read very little. During the Barcelona Olympic Games, tens of millions of Chinese viewers stayed up late to watch the opening ceremonies and other programs. And television is quickly taking the place of printed material as the major source of news for most Chinese. A recent survey in Beijing found that 63% of those surveyed got their news from television through CCTV and TV stations.
