I consider myself something of an expert on apologies. A quick temper(脾气) has _31 me with plenty of opportunities(机会) to make them. In one of my earliest 32 , my mother is telling me, “Don’t watch the33 when you say ‘I’m sorry’. Hold your
head up and look the person in the 34 , so he’ll kn ow you 35 it.”
My mother thus made the key point of a(n) 36 apology: it must be direct. You must never 37 to be doing something else. You do not 38 a pile of letters while apologizing to a person 39 in position after blaming him or her for a mistake that turned out to be your 40 . You do not apologize to a hostess(女主人), whose guest of honor you treat 41 , by sending flowers the next day without mentioning your bad 42 .
One of the important things you should do for an 43 apology is readiness to 44 the responsibility(责任) for our careless mistakes. We are used to making excuses, which leaves no 45 for the other person to 46 us. Since most people are open-hearted, the no-excuse apology leaves both parties feeling 47 about themselves. That, after all, is the 48 of every apology. It 49 little whether the apologizer is wholly or only partly at fault: answering for one’s50 encourages others to take their share of the blame.

Passage 3
For any Englishman, there can never be any discussion as to who is the world’s greatest poet and greatest dramatist. Only one name can possibly suggest itself to him: that of William Shakespeare. Every Englishman has some knowledge, however slight, of the works of our greatest writer. All of us use words, phrases and quotations from Shakespeare’ s writing that have become part of the common property of English-speaking people. Most of the time we are probably unaware of the source of the words we use, rather like the old lady who was taken to see a performance of HAMLET and complained that “it was full of well-known proverbs and quotations. ”
Shakespeare, more perhaps than any other writer, made full use of the great resources of the English language. Most of us use about five thousand words in our normal employment of English; Shakespeare in his works used about twenty-five thousand. There is probably no better way for a foreigner to appreciate the richness and variety of the English language than by studying the various ways in which Shakespeare used it. Such a study is well worth the effort (it is not, of course, recommended to beginners) even though some aspects of English usage, and the meaning of many words, have changed since Shakespeare’s day.

B. Shakespeare’s writings have become the property of those who are learning to speak English.
C. It is likely to be true that people often do not know the origin of the words they use.
D. All the words people use are taken from Shakespeare’s writings.

Children can’t live happily and healthily without parents, because parents have done a lot during the growth of children. From the necessities such as three meals a day to school education at different levels, parents’ love of and devotion to children are felt everywhere.
As children have become grown up, they realize how much their parents have done for them and how important it is to repay their parents. Some work so hard to earn large sums of money to provide big houses for their parents. Others are always cooking delicious food or buying expensive clothes for them. Still others arrange for parents to go traveling both home and abroad and the like. Naturally all these would make their parents happy. However, as far as I am concerned, what parents need most is simply a call, a talk, or a dinner together. To tell you the truth, whenever I have spare time, I try to see them in person, have meals with them, talk with them and share with them my joys and sorrows, which offers them the greatest happiness. In a word, I think we should repay our parents with the deep love from the bottom of our hearts as they have done for us
