摘要：PURPOSE:To provide the title porous material suitable as a catalytic carrier, etc., having small pressure loss, excellent strength, impact strength, etc., comprising a material consisting essentially of aluminum titanate, by forming mutually communicated spherical pores having given pore diameters. CONSTITUTION:Expanded polystyrene is packed into a mold, compressed and fixed. An aqueous slurry consisting of ceramic powder comprising ceramic powder as a main component, a water-soluble resin and a curing agent is filled into the voids of the expanded polystyrene packed material. Then the resulting material is cured and dried to give a green material, which is immersed in a solvent, the expanded polystyrene is dissolved and the resultant material is burnt at high temperature. Consequently, a porous material of ceramic composed of a material containing >=60wt.% aluminum titanate and forming spherical pores having 0.1-10mm diameter in a mutually communicated state in the whole porous material of ceramic is produced.
