3. Learn how to look up new words in an English dictionary:
(1)I’m glad to tell you that I learned how to use the English-Chinese dictionary.
(2)The words in dictionaries are in alphabetical order.
(3)When you look up a word in the dictionary, you must pay attention to the first letter of the word.

Step 1 Review 第一步复习(时间:10分钟)
1. (通过对话复习有关UFO的知识。
)
T: Hi! S1, are you sure there are UFOs?
S1: No, I’m not sure there are UFOs.
T: Why do you think so?
S1: Because until now, nobody seems to have really seen a UFO.
T: What are the scientists’ ideas?
S1: They aren’t sure whether there are UFOs.
T: What about the children’s ideas?
S1: Jane is sure there are UFOs.
Kangkang is not so sure there are UFOs.
Michael is quite sure there are UFOs.
Maria is sure there are no UFOs.
T: Why do some people think there are UFOs?
S1: Because people often mistake some man-made objects such as kites or balloons for UFOs.

T: We have learned a useful invention. Its name is robot. Robots can help us a lot.

1. T: I often use a computer for searching the Internet. The Internet is very useful
and wonderful. OK, I think all of you make a good use of the computer, so what can we do on the Internet? Read the passage in 1a and find out the answer to this question.

T: OK. Now please give me your answers. From S1 please, say it one by one.
S1:We can go shopping without leaving our houses .
S2:We can study on the Internet.
S3:We can use the Internet for finding a job.
S4:We can find the way to a new place on the Internet.

T: OK. Now please read 1a after the tape. Pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation. And underline the key words and sentences.

Step 3 Consolidation 第三步巩固(时间:10分钟)
1. (学生自读1a并理解文章大意。
)
T: Now please read the passage by yourselves and get the general idea of it. 2. (学生根据关键词复述课文。
)
T: OK. Boys and girls, please stop. According to the key words on the blackboard, please retell the text to your deskmate.After two minutes, I will ask someone to retell it in front of class.

)

T: Now let’s move to 1c. I will give everyone a piece of paper. There are four questions on it. Please answer them.

S4:If you spend too much time on the Internet, you can’t study well.
T: Internet is wonderful. There are lots of useful things on the Internet, so it can help us a lot. But we should not spend too much time on it.

Step 4 Practice 第四步练习(时间:10分钟)

)
T: What’s this?
Ss: It’s a dictionary. (引导学生回答。
)
T: Yeah, it’s an English-Chinese dictionary.

T: Do you have an English-Chinese dictionary?
Ss:Yes, we do.
T: If you meet a new word while you are reading, what will you do?
Ss:I’ll look it up in the dictionary.
T: You are right! Do you know how to look up the words in the dictionary? Read 2a by yourselves, and then find out the answer to this question.

T: According to the important sentences on the blackboard, please make up a dialog.
For example:
S1:Could you tell me how to use an English-Chinese dictionary?
S2:Certainly. When you look up a word in the dictionary, pay attention to the first letter of the word. When two words begin with the same letter, you have to look at the second letter to find the word. If both the first and second letter are the same, look at the third letter and so on.
S1:Thank you.
