To stay healthy and fit, Chinesestudents do group exercises every day at school. Most of you probably do the same set of exercises. But some school exercises have grown popular online due to their local and innovative designs.
Singing in Sichuan dialects with energetic movements and unique mask-changing is not just a Sichuan Opera performance. It’s the routine exercise for students of Mianyang Foreign Languages Experimental School in Sichuan province.
“Sichuan Opera is a local opera, and it is now facing a gap in inheritance (传承). Therefore, we cooperated with Mianyang Intangible Cultural Heritage Center to create a simple and easy-to-learn Sichuan Opera exercise,” said Shen Junhua, who is in charge of organizing the school’s exercise between classes.
According to Shen, this new type of exercise has been practiced since 2017 and has been popular among students. When students enroll (入学), they will spend several weeks practicing it. At present, almost all of the students and teachers have mastered it.
“In fact, we had hardly heard of Sichuan Opera before teachers taught us how to do the Sichuan Opera exercise,” said Li Yangwenwen, 14, an eighth grade student who also joined the school’s Sichuan Opera club out of interest. “It’s very different from normal exercises. After practicing it, we found it very beautiful and became interested in it. Now, almost all of the students look forward to our daily exercise time and feel excited to do it.”
“By combining opera with daily exercise, the daily class activity allows students to perceive and understand Sichuan Opera’s culture”, Shen said. “After years of continuous effort to spread the seeds of traditional culture, the younger generation is finally catching on.”
4. What do students in Shen’s school do during the group exercise?
A. They do normal exercise .
B. They sing pop songs in Sichuan dialects.
C. They do mask-changing in a Sichuan Opera performance.
D. They combine group exercise with Sichuan Opera.
5. Why do they adopt the new type of exercise?
A. To attract new students to the school.
B. To inherit local culture.
C. To create an easy-to-learn exercise.
D. To make the school’s group exercise popular.
6. How do teachers and students react to the group exercise?
A. Calm.
B. Indifferent.
C. Enthusiastic.
D. Uninterested.
7. What can we learn from the last paragraph?

B. The younger generation will have a stronger body.
C. The students can better understand their local culture.
D. Students help to spread the seeds of traditional culture toyounger generation.

If you’ve ever had a dog, you know just how deep a connection you can develop with “man’s best friend”. But a dog has a much shorter life span — about 12 to 15 years long — than humans, which means every dog owner has to go through the heartbreaking moment when their loving pet passes away.
Why not make a clone of that dog then? This is the solution offered by a South Korean company, Sooam Biotech Research Foundation. The company has successfully cloned at least 400 dogs, mostly for US customers, ever since it pioneered the technique in 2005. Now, Sooam Biotech is planning to introduce their business toUKdog owners, offering them dogs that look just like their lost ones.
Meanwhile, another dog is selected to supply an egg.Researchers then replace the DNA in the egg with that from the skin cell and implant the egg into the womb (子宫) of a female dog. The egg grows into a puppy over the following two months. To clone a dog, researchers first need to take a skin cell from a living dog or one that has just died.
The whole process takes less than a day, but it comes at a shockingly high price — around £63,000 (614,000 yuan). But if you can’t afford it now, you can also save the cells in a laboratory and access them at a later date. Just like identical twins of humans, they share the exact same DNA but there will still be small differences between them. “The spots on a Dalmatian clone will be different, for example,” Insung Hwang, head of Sooam Biotech, toldThe Guardian. However, as magical as cloning might sound, there is no guarantee that the cloned dog will be a perfect replica of the original one.
Dog owners will also have to accept the fact that personality is not “clone-able”. Apart from genes, personality is also determined by upbringing and environment, which are both “random elements [that] cloning technologies simply cannot overcome”, Professor Tom Kirkwood atNewcastle University,UK, toldThe Telegraph.
Perhaps bringing our dogs back with cloning is not the best way to remember them after all.
Kirkwood, a dog owner himself, pointed out: “An important aspect of our relationship with them is coming to terms with the pain of letting go.”
8. According to the article, Sooam Biotech Research Foundation is ______.
A. working on plans to help dog owners enjoy their pets longer
B. offering a way to help dogs give birth to more puppies
C. providing a service that will make copies of pet dogs
D. introducing a completely new technique to clone dogs

A. Dog cloning technology hadn’t been put into practice until recently.
B. Dog cloning is very expensive and usually takes several months to complete.
C. Dog cloning is very popular among US andUKpet owners.
D. Cloned dogs might develop different habits and characteristics even though they look very similar.
10. Which of the following shows the correct order of the dog cloning process?
a. an egg is taken from another dog
b. a skin cell is taken from the pet dog and saved in a laboratory

People from Britain and Ireland first came to live in Australia in 1788. They brought different dialects (方言) of English with them. These different kinds of English began to mix and change. The newcomers soon began to speak with their own typical accent (口音) and vocabulary. More and more people came to Australia during the Gold Rush in the 19th and 20th centuries. Some came from Britain and Ireland; others came from non-English speaking countries. Australian English continued to grow and change.
Australian English has also been influenced by American English. During the Second World War, there were many American soldiers staying in Australia. More importantly, American television shows and music have been popular in Australia since the 1950s.
Australians use many words that other English speakers do not use. The famous Australian greeting, for example, is G’day! A native forest is called the bush and central Australia is called the outback. Many words were brought to Australia from Britain and Ireland. For example, mate means “friend”, and it is still used in Britain. Some of these words have changed in meaning. Some words have come from Australian original languages, many of which are names for animals, plants and places, like dingo and kangaroo.
Australian spelling comes from British spelling. In words like organise and realise, -ise is the expected and taught spelling method. In words like colour, favourite, -ouris the normal, but nouns such as the Labor Party and Victor Harbor are spelled with -or. Program, on the other hand, is more common than programme.
There are also differences in the definition (定义) of words Australians use in different parts of the country. For example, football means “rugby” in New South Wales and Queensland, but “Australian rules football" in everywhere else in Australia. In New South Wales, a swimming costume is called a cossie or swimmers, while in Queensland it is called togs and bathers in Victoria.
12. What does paragraph 1 mainly talk about?
A. Reasons why English is important.
B. Different dialects of Australian English.
C. Various aspects that Australian English has been influenced.
D. Changes of the accent and vocabulary in English.
13. According to the text, which of the following is spoken only by Australians?
A. Mate.
B. Outback.
C. Program.
D. Rugby.
14. Which is the following can best describe Australian English?
A. Confusing and interesting.
B. Multicultural and creative.
C. Crazy and boring.
D. Unchangeable and mixed.
15. What might be the best title for the text?
A. The History of Australia
B. The Birth of Australian English
C. The Development of Australian English
D Different Kinds of English Across the World

A little boy almost thought of himself as the unluckiest child in the world because poliomyelitis(小儿麻痹症)made him unable to walk like normal people. He seldom played with his classmates, and when the teacher asked him to answer questions, he always lowered his head without a word.
One spring, the boy's father asked for some young trees from the neighbor. He wanted to plant them in the front of the house. He told his children to plant a tree each person. The father said to the children, "Whose tree grows best, I will buy him or her a favorite gift" The boy also wanted to get his father's gift. But seeing his brothers and sisters carrying water to water the trees happily, he had a terrible idea: he hoped the tree he planted would die soon. So he never attended to it.
A few days later, when the little boy went to see his tree again, he was surprised to find it not only didn't die, but also grew some fresh leaves, and compared with the trees of his brother and sister, his appeared greener and more vital. 51.(1).me→you.考查代词。

此处是给朋友Chris的信,别人嘲笑Chris因为他胖。

指代Chris用you,故me→you.
(2). calling →called.考查非谓语动词。

句中a group和动词call是被动关系用过去分词表被动,指这个团队被叫做HOOP.故calling →called.
(3).it后加is/was.考查动词。

此处指HOOP由一群友好支持的人组成,此处表被动,be made up of“由…组成”,故it后加is/was.

plenty of “许多,大量”是固定短语,前面不加冠词a,故去掉a.
