The Good Youth in the New Era
Hi there! My name is Michelle and I'm a 5th grader here in Beijing. My teacher Mrs. Wang asked us to write about what it means to be a good youth living in today's world. She said the world is changing so fast and we kids have to keep up! I'll do my best to share my thoughts.
I think being a good youth today means being hardworking and studying real hard. We live in an era with so much advancement in science and technology. Just look at how phones and computers have changed over the past few years! If I want a good job when I grow up, I need to stay on top of my lessons in math, coding, and all the STEM subjects.
My parents are always stressing how much competition there is nowadays. China's economy and influence in the world are growing rapidly. We have to be at our best to make the most of all the opportunities around us. That means spending lots of time on homework, attending tutoring classes, and really pushing ourselves. Sometimes it gets tiring, but I know it will pay off when I'm able to get into a top university.
Still, being a good youth isn't just about academics. We also have to be well-rounded by participating in extracurriculars and developing other talents. I take piano lessons twice a week and I'm part of my school's volleyball team. Finding that balance between studies and extracurriculars is tough, but it's making me a more capable person.
My grandparents remind me too that being a good person of strong moral character is so important, especially as China's international stature rises. We have to be good ambassadors for Chinese values and ethics. That means having virtues like honesty, integrity, respect for elders, and care for our communities.
At home, I always listen to my parents and help out with chores like cleaning up after meals. At school, I try to be a good example by being polite and hard-working. I won't tolerate any bullying of my classmates. And I'm part of my school's recycling club to protect our environment.
China is still a developing country too, so we have to show patriotism and care about issues affecting people's livelihoods. We're studying about poverty alleviation in class and how the government is focused on reducing rural-urban inequalities to build a moderately prosperous society. I'm saving up my pocket
money to donate to charities supporting education for underprivileged kids.
With the Belt and Road Initiative extending China's global influence, we need to be ready to interact with people from all over the world. That means being curious to learn about other cultures while also taking pride in Chinese culture and history. My parents are getting me traditional Chinese dance and calligraphy lessons. But I'm also picking up English skills by watching movies and shows from the US and UK.
President Xi Jinping has talked a lot about cultivating the next generation of well-rounded youth who are "modest, prudent, and studious." That means having a good attitude as we face challenges and setbacks. We can't get arrogant or slacken off just because of China's rising power and wealth. We must maintain humility, diligence, and resilience.
With fast technological changes ahead, we need to stay curious and innovative too. We can't just keep doing things the conventional old-fashioned way. My parents work in AI so I know how rapidly that field is evolving and creating new products. As a good youth, I'm trying to develop creativity and out-of-box thinking through activities like robotics club.
Sometimes all these pressures and expectations to be a good youth can feel overwhelming! That's why mental and physical health are so crucial too. I make sure to get out and play sports regularly, doing things like badminton, swimming, and riding my bike. And my parents let me take breaks to just hang out with friends, listening to music, and having fun.
In the new era, we good youth have a lot resting on our shoulders as China's future. But if we stay focused, work diligently, develop ourselves fully, and have the right principles - I'm confident we can make our families, teachers, and nation very proud! Let's do this!。
