①倍数+ as + many + 可数名词复数+ as;
②倍数+ as +much + 不可数名词+ as.如:
There are seven times as many people as I expected.
There is five times as much coffee in this glass as in that one.
The hall is five times bigger than our classroom.
1)倍数+ the size (height / length / width. etc.)/ that + of + 其他.如:
This road is six times the length of that one.
The production is now three times what it was ten years ago.
She’s twice/ double my age.
19. According to an official report on youth violence, “In our country today, the greatest threat to the lives of children and adolescents is not disease or starvation or abandonment, but the terrible reality of violence”. Given that his is the case, why aren’t students taught to manage conflicts the way they are taught to solve math problems, drive cars, or stay physically fit?
First of all, students need to realize that conflicts are unavoidable. It is reported that most violent incidents between students begin with a ly minor insult. For example, a flight could start over the fact that one student eats a peanut butter sandwich each lunchtime. Laughter over the sandwich can lead to insults, which in turn can lead to violence.
If the conflict occurs, students can practice the golden rule of conflict resolution: stay calm. Once the student feels calmer, he or she should choose words that will calm the other person down as well. Rude words and accusations only add fuel to the emotional fire while soft words can put out the fire before it explodes out of control.
After that, they can use another key strategy for conflict resolution: listening. Listening allows the two sides to understand each other. One person should describe his or her side, and the other person should listen without interrupting. Afterwards, the listener can ask non-threatening questions to clarify the speaker’s position. Then the two people should change roles.
Finally, students need to consider what they are hearing. An argument doesn’t mean trying to figure out the fault of the other person but means understanding what the real issue is. As the issue becomes clearer, the conflict often simply becomes smaller.
The conflict can lead to violence, so students should be taught how to handle it. The onflict is inevitable and minor insults may cause it. Staying calm, avoiding aggressive words is the priority. To promote understanding each other, they should listen to each other and ask questions. Finally, thinking about what they are hearing can help minimize misunderstanding.
