My Amazing Trip to the Bodnant Garden!
This summer, my family took me on the coolest trip ever to a huge garden in Wales called the Bodnant Garden. It was way bigger and prettier than I ever imagined a garden could be! I'm going to tell you all about the awesome things I saw and did there.
When we first got to the garden, I couldn't believe how massive it was - over 80 acres! That's like 60 football fields packed full of flowers, trees, ponds, and winding paths to explore. The gardens are really old too, starting way back in 1792 when some family started planting stuff there. Over 200 years later, it is one of the most beautiful gardens on the planet.
We began our adventure by walking down this long,
tree-lined path called the Dell. The trees arched up high over the trail creating a shady green tunnel. Sunlight peeked through the branches in cool patterns on the ground. Birds were chirping all
around and squirrels were scrambling up and down the trunks. I felt like I was in a secret forest!
At the end of the trail, we came to this gigantic field filled with wildflowers of every color - reds, oranges, yellows, purples, pinks, and more! The scene looked like a painting come to life. Mom and Dad said it was called the Ff Wall. My little sister ran out into the flowers, laughing and spinning around. I joined her and we rolled down a hill, surrounded by the sweet floral smells.
Next, we wandered into an area filled with exotic trees from all over the world. One tree had weird spikey branches that looked like dinosaur spines. Another one had silky pink blossoms dangling down like a princess's gown. The biggest tree we saw was so enormous that I couldn't even see the top! I've never seen such crazy, beautiful trees anywhere else.
As we kept exploring, we found all sorts of other cool areas too. There were water gardens with huge lily pads floating on ponds. Stone terraces overflowed with roses, geraniums, and other bright flowers. Winding pathways led through bamboo forests. A big greenhouse was filled with tropical plants, cacti, and trees growing fruit like oranges and bananas. I couldn't get over how many different environments were packed into one garden!
My favorite area was probably the Piney Woods though. It was this misty forest canyon filled with towering pine trees. Everything was green and mossy and felt kind of magical. Little creeks and waterfalls trickled down through the rocks. We played hide-and-seek behind the huge tree trunks for a while before heading to the next section.
Around lunchtime, we stopped at this pretty pavilion area for a picnic. As we ate our sandwiches, Mom read to us from a book about all the history of Bodnant Garden. I learned that the original family who lived there in the 1800s was really into science and nature. They collected plants from all around the globe and displayed them in the gardens to share their discoveries with people. So cool!
After lunch, we explored some more parts like the Valley Gardens that sort of spilled down a hillside. There were stepping stones across streams and hidden grottoes to crawl through and explore. We saw butterflies and tiny frogs and all sorts of critters in this area.
By late afternoon, we were getting pretty tired from all the walking around. But there was one final section we had to see before leaving - the Skating Pond area! Like the name says, it was centered around a huge pond. And get this - in the winter when
the pond freezes over solid, people are actually allowed to go ice skating on it! They have big bonfires and everything. I begged Mom and Dad to bring me back in the winter because it looked like so much fun.
The last thing we did was look around the Bodnant Garden Center, which is kind of like a big plant store and gift shop area. They sell flowers, trees, tools, outdoor furniture, decorations, and all sorts of other gardening stuff there. My sister and I both got little potted flowers to take home as souvenirs. I picked out a sunflower and she chose a daisy.
I had such an incredible day at Bodnant Garden and saw so many amazing things! It's crazy that all of those different environments with flowers, trees, ponds, and forests from around the world could exist together in one place. If you ever get a chance to go to Wales, you have to check out Bodnant Garden because it's like a million miniature worlds packed into one massive nature playground. I'm still dreaming about all the cool areas and pathways I explored and how incredibly beautiful everything looked. Visiting this garden is definitely one of my favorite memories ever!

My Family's Trip to the Bodnant Garden
Last summer, my family and I went on a trip to Wales in the United Kingdom. We visited lots of cool places, but my favorite was this huge garden called the Bodnant Garden. It was so pretty and had all kinds of amazing plants and flowers!
The Bodnant Garden is located in a valley surrounded by hills and mountains. It covers over 80 acres, which is like 60 football fields! Can you believe a garden could be that massive? As we walked along the paths, I felt like we were exploring a magical outdoor wonderland.
There were so many different sections and areas of the garden to discover. One part was filled with neat conifers, which are those cool evergreen trees with needles instead of leaves. Some of them looked like giant squiggles and others were perfectly cone-shaped. My little brother thought they looked like the trees from Dr. Seuss books!
Another area had tons of bright, colorful flowers everywhere you looked. There were roses, rhododendrons, azaleas, and more in every shade - red, pink, yellow, purple, orange. I had never seen such a rainbow of flowers before! The air smelled incredibly sweet and floral. I just wanted to sit down and sniff the beautiful scents all day.
Then we entered this magical dell area with streams, ponds, and waterfalls. Trickling water sounds so peaceful and relaxing. Beside the streams, there were ferns, mosses, and all sorts of cool green plants growing. My dad said it reminded him of scenes from fantasy movies with goblins and fairies. I kept looking carefully to see if any mythical creatures would appear!
Up on the higher ground, there were sprawling green meadows dotted with wildflowers. Butterflies danced from bloom to bloom as fluffy white clouds drifted across the bright blue sky. It looked like a perfect place to just run around and play happily. No wonder so many people brought picnic blankets to relax on the soft grass.
As we wandered deeper into the garden, things got shadier under the tall trees. The two thousand-year-old yew trees looked wildly twisty with their reddish bark. And the acre of
moss-covered old oak trees seemed straight out of a storybook forest. I half expected woodland animals to scamper out from the undergrowth!
My favorite section might have been the gorgeous walled gardens, with their vibrant flower borders, rectangular plant beds, and brick walkways. One had tons of herbs like mint, rosemary, and lavender that smelled amazing. The other was full of delicate
flowers like peonies and irises in pretty pastel colors. I felt like I had stumbled into a royal courtyard garden.
Toward the end of our visit, we climbed up to this grassy rooftop area called the Rectangular Walled Garden. From there, we had a panoramic view overlooking the entire Bodnant Garden layout below. We could see the winding paths, colorful flowerbeds, and lush green canopies of the mighty trees. What an awesome bird's eye view of such a diverse, sprawling garden!
After walking around for hours, we were getting tired and hungry. Luckily, there was a delicious restaurant called the Pavilion right inside the garden. We ate tasty foods like sandwiches, soups, and cakes while gazing out at the lovely scenery through the big glass windows. It was the perfect ending to our amazing day at the Bodnant Garden.
I had so much fun exploring all the different areas of this humongous garden. The Bodnant Garden was like a real-life storybook wonderland with diverse plants, vibrant blooms, shady trees, bubbling streams, and wide open meadows. I can't wait to go back again and wander through this unbelievable paradise. Maybe next time some fairies or gnomes will finally reveal themselves to me!

The Bodnant Garden: A Wonderland of Flowers and Trees
Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm 10 years old. Last summer, my family took an amazing trip to Wales and one of the coolest places we visited was the Bodnant Garden. It's this huge flower garden up in the hills and let me tell you, it was like stepping into another world! I'm going to describe it for you as best as I can.
When we first arrived, we had to walk up a long path lined with tall trees. Their branches reached out over the trail, making it nice and shady. I could hear birds chirping away up in the leaves. At the end of the path, we came to the entrance and I couldn't believe my eyes!
Right in front of me was this massive, wide open garden area full of every kind of flower you can imagine. There were rings and rings of colorful flower beds laid out in patterns radiating from the center. Bright reds, yellows, purples, pinks - it looked like a rainbow had been planted into the ground! The flower beds were separated by smooth green lawns that seemed to stretch on forever.
My little brother Josh tugged on my arm and pointed up at one of the trees nearby. That's when I noticed the garden had some of the biggest, most twisty trees I'd ever seen! The trunks were covered in rough, patterned bark and the branches reached up and out in all directions like giant gnarled hands. Some of the lower branches even stretched down and touched the ground. I wondered how old those amazing trees must be.
"Can we go explore?" Josh asked, bouncing up and down with excitement. I nodded eagerly and we scampered off down one of the grassy paths, mom and dad following behind. As we wandered deeper in, I saw that each section of the garden had different flowers and plants. One area was full of roses of every shape, size, and color. Next to it was a bamboo forest with the tallest stalks I'd ever seen.
Around the next corner, we found a section with ponds and streams running through it. Ducks and swans were gliding across the water, making ripples as they went. Weeping willows trailed their long branches into the ponds. On the bank grew wild irises and water lilies. It was like a secret magical pond world had been tucked into the garden!
One of my favorite parts was the double walled garden area. It had an outer and inner wall made of brick with a walking path
between them. Growing on the walls were hundreds of vines and flowering plants cascading over the sides. Walking through that tunnel of dangling flowers was like something out of a fairy tale!
We probably spent three or four hours roaming around the Bodnant Garden and I still felt like we barely scratched the surface. Every time I turned a corner there was a new surprise - a rose-covered archway, a greenhouse full of exotic flowers, a hidden bench surrounded by flowering bushes. It went on and on like a maze of incredible plants.
My dad tried to read the information signs to learn about the history of the garden, but I didn't really pay much attention. I was just in awe at the beauty of all the colors, smells, and life around me. The sights and sounds of bees buzzing, birds singing, and water trickling made it feel like the most peaceful, happy place on earth. I could have spent a whole week there and never gotten bored!
After several wonderful but tiring hours, we finally decided to head back to the entrance area. As we passed through the gift shop, I begged my parents to get me a little seed box set so I could try growing some of the cool flowers at home. Maybe I'll have my own little garden one day!
The Bodnant Garden was definitely the highlight of our trip to Wales for me. I'll never forget wandering through that wonderland of greenery, losing myself in a world of vibrant flowers, tinkling streams, and twisted ancient trees. If you ever get the chance to visit there, you absolutely should! It's like escaping into a storybook garden come to life. An absolute must-see for any nature lover. I'm already trying to convince my parents to take me back again soon!

My Trip to the Bodnant Garden
Hooray, school holidays! During the summer break, my mum and dad took me on a fun trip to a place called the Bodnant Garden in Wales. I had never been to a garden that big before. It was absolutely massive!
When we first arrived, I could hardly believe my eyes. The garden seemed to go on forever in every direction. There were tall trees, colorful flowers, green shrubs, and winding paths as far as I could see. I felt like a tiny little ant exploring a great big jungle.
"This way, this way!" said mum, taking my hand and leading me down one of the paths. We walked along trailing behind a tour guide who was telling us all about the history of the garden.
The Bodnant Garden has been around for over 300 years, since the 1600s! Can you believe that? It was started by a family way back then, and they slowly added to it over many generations. Different family members designed different sections with their own unique styles. That's why the garden almost feels like a bunch of smaller gardens mashed together.
As we strolled along, I couldn't decide what to look at first. Every flower bed, hedge, and tree seemed more beautiful and interesting than the last. The colors were so bright and vibrant. Yellows, reds, pinks, purples, and more - it was like walking through a rainbow!
One part we came to had these incredibly funky looking plants called "conifers". The guide told us they were a special kind of evergreen tree with scaly leaves. Some were tall and pointy, while others were short and round like giant fluffy clouds. They came in so many weird shapes and shades of green. I'd never seen anything like it!
Another section featured a long stream with several small waterfalls and ponds along it. Ducks were swimming peacefully
while fountains shot water high into the air. Mum and dad let me throw a couple coins into the biggest pond to make a wish. I wished that we could spend all day exploring the amazing garden!
After walking for a while, we came across these two avenues lined with plain-looking trees. But the guide said they were really remarkable trees called "plant hunters". You see, hundreds of years ago, explorers brought seeds and cuttings of these trees all the way from places like China, Nepal, and North America. So the Bodnant Garden helped spread cool new plants all over Britain that had never been seen before. I felt like a world traveler just looking at them.
My favorite part was definitely the Dell, this wonderland of towering trees and twisty paths. It felt like we had shrunken down to the size of mice and were wandering through an enchanted forest. Leaves and branches arched overhead, filtering the sunlight into glowing green streaks. If any fairies or elves lived in these woods, this is where you'd find them!
We climbed up and down little hills, crossed over bridges, and squished through dark tunnels formed by bushes leaning together. At one point, mum had to crouch down to fit under a low-hanging branch. The path zig-zagged every which way,
making me feel lost and turned around, even though we never really left the Dell area.
Emerging from the Dell, we walked past what looked like a little stone house with a bright red roof. Apparently, it was actually a pen for pigs from way back when the garden first started! Can you imagine pigs just roaming around eating all the plants and veggies? What a mess that would be.
We also saw some greenhouses where they grow tropical plants that can't survive the cold Welsh winters outdoors. Inside it felt like a sweltering jungle with giant rhubarb plants, palm trees dripping with vines, and the weirdest bulbous flowers in alien shades of orange and blue. I didn't dare touch anything, worried I might get pricked, stung or catch on fire!
After hours of exploring, my legs were getting tired from all the walking. Luckily, mum and dad knew just the spot to refuel. We stopped at this adorable vintage tearoom set inside the garden for some snacks and drinks. I slurped down a huge chocolatey milkshake and gobbled up a plateful of crumbly scones with jam and cream. Delicious!
Resting on the patio with my delicious treats, I looked out over all the gorgeous garden scenery. Trees, flowers, and fountains spread out in every direction. A light breeze ruffled the
leaves and carried fragrant floral aromas through the air. I felt so calm and relaxed, away from the busy noise of the city in this peaceful garden oasis.
Although I was exhausted from all the hiking, I didn't want our garden adventure to end. Around every turn, there seemed to be new surprises and sights to discover. From streams and ponds to exotic plants to whimsical wooded wonderlands, the Bodnant Garden was like a dozen amazing parks rolled into one.
I could have spent a whole week exploring and still not seen everything!
As we drove away that evening, I kept the window down so I could breathe in the fresh garden air. I made mum and dad promise we'd come back again soon. The Bodnant Garden was an outdoor playground, museum, and fairytale storybook all rolled into one. I couldn't wait to see what other neat stuff was hidden around the next bend of those winding paths!

My Big Adventure at the Bodnant Garden!
Hooray, it was finally summer vacation! No more teachers, no more books for a couple of months. My parents promised to take me on a fun trip to make up for having to sit in a classroom
all year. I was super excited when they told me we were going to a huge, beautiful garden in Wales called the Bodnant Garden. I had never been to Wales before and couldn't wait to explore!
The drive there took forever. "Are we there yet?" I kept asking pretty much the whole way. My little legs were getting stiff from sitting so long. But at last, we pulled into the parking lot and I could glimpse some of the garden through the trees. It looked amazing!
First up was the Dell terrain area. As we wandered down the winding paths, I spotted tons of pretty wildflowers like bluebells, daffodils, and crocuses peeking up through the grass. The trees arched overhead, creating a shady canopy. It felt like we were in a secret woodland paradise.
Next we came to the Pentre Mawr garden area surrounding a cute little stone cottage. There were all sorts of brightly colored flower beds lined up in neat rows. Pinks, purples, reds, yellows –every color you can imagine! The air smelled incredibly sweet from the blossoms. I wanted to lean down and sniff each one.
My favorite area though was the Pentre Garden with its big grassy meadow surrounded by trees and shrubs. The grass looked so velvety and lush that I couldn't resist kicking off my shoes to wiggle my toes through it. I felt like a puppy getting to
roll around in the cool, soft blades. Some families had even brought picnic blankets to lounge on the lawn and munch sandwiches.
Of course no tour of the garden would be complete without checking out the two huge ponds! The water in both was so still and clear. Watching the fat koi fish gliding through the pond surrounded by all the pretty plants was so relaxing. Every once in a while a dragon fly would zip past.
The amazing waterfalls and streams were another highlight. Watching the mini-rapids rush over the rocks mesmerized me. I loved listening to the soothing burble and imagining I was an explorer trekking through the wilderness. Those areas felt so refreshingly cool on a warm summer day too.
My dad's favorite spot was the massive Rhododendron gardens and woodlands. Those twisted, gnarled bushes looked straight out of a storybook forest. The blooms were as big as my head! There were about a bazillion different shades of pink, purple, red and white rhododendrons too. I couldn't decide which color I liked best.
The terraced gardens blew me away with all their geometric planting designs and paths. From up on the higher terraces, you could look out over the whole estate with its grand old buildings
fitting so perfectly into the landscape. I pretended I was a queen surveying her kingdom from up there.
After hours of wandering around, I finally started to drag my feet. Exploring the 80 acres of gardens really helped work up an appetite. Thankfully, there was an adorable tea room right on the property. We all shared the most delicious fresh-baked scones slathered with jam and cream. The perfect treats to refuel after our big adventure!
That night I crashed hard, totally tuckered out. But my dreams were filled with running through leafy forests, wading in bright streams, and dancing through wildflower meadows. The Bodnant Garden was even more amazing than I imagined. I made my mom and dad promise we could go back again soon. A place that magical deserves lots of return visits!

My Big Adventure at Bodnant Garden
Hi, my name is Emma and I'm 10 years old. This summer, my family went on a really cool trip to Wales and we visited this amazing place called Bodnant Garden. It was huge, like 80 acres huge! That's basically the size of 60 football fields smushed
together. I'm going to tell you all about our exciting adventure exploring Bodnant Garden.
When we first arrived, I could hardly believe my eyes. Bodnant Garden was like a fairytale land full of flowers, trees, ponds, and beautiful plants from all over the world. The garden was founded way back in 1874 which is almost 150 years ago! Can you imagine how many different plants they've collected over all that time? Millions probably.
We started our journey by strolling down this long path called the Dell. On either side were the tallest trees I've ever seen, including gigantic redwoods from California that looked like skyscrapers made of wood. Underneath them were tons of pretty rhododendrons in every color of the rainbow - pink, purple, white, red, yellow. My little sister kept running up to smell them.
Further down the Dell we came across this incredible waterfall cascading down a rocky cliff. The rumbling sounds of the rushing water was so loud I could barely hear my mom yelling at me not to get too close to the edge! Next to the waterfall was the most peculiar tree I've laid eyes on - an upside down tree! Well, not entirely upside down, but its bare roots and tangled branches jutted straight up towards the sky, making it look like the tree had been planted upside-down in the ground. I
found out later it was called a Strangler Fig. Crazy name for a crazy tree!
After the Dell, we explored the Pinetum which is a foresty area full of pine trees from all around the globe. I got to see a Bristlecone Pine that was over 4,000 years old! Just let that sink in - this tree was already a few centuries old when the ancient Egyptian pyramids were being built. That's nuts! We also saw the Monkey Puzzle Tree from Chile which gets its wacky name from its spiky leaves that would make it puzzling for a monkey to try and climb it.
My favorite part was called the Fan Garden which had an enormous semicircle of trees and flowers laid out in a giant fan shape on this grassy hillside area. We had a picnic right in the middle of the fan and I played chase with my little brother, running in circles around the vibrant flowerbeds. The gardeners at Bodnant must work incredibly hard because every single plant was perfectly pruned and manicured. Not a single weed in sight!
After the Fan Garden, we wandered through areas like the Tweed Garden, Skating Pond, and Winter Garden. Each one seemed more magical than the last with water features, intricate designs, rare plants, and hidden nooks and crannies to explore.
At the very end of our journey, we came across a humongous piece of striped slate rock called the Pulpit Stone. The docent told us in medieval times, preachers would actually stand on top of the rock and give sermons to villagers! I tried climbing up but it was much too high and steep. Instead, we just took some fun family pictures in front of it.
By the end of the day, I was completely tuckered out from all the walking and exploring of Bodnant Garden's 80 acre wonderland. I couldn't believe how many different plants and trees I saw from all around the world - some old and gnarled, others new and vibrant. I want to be a botanist when I grow up so I can study plants and maybe even work at an incredible garden like Bodnant someday. Our trip there was the best adventure ever!。
