October, 20th, 2020, Tuesday Sunny It was the first rehearsal of the play today. As the director of the play, I organized it and I wanted to see how it went so far since all the performers got the play and the dialogues and lines in advance. However, to my disappointment, it was such a failure that there had to be next rounds of rehearsals.
It was 6:30 am in the morning, I was in the rehearsal room waiting for all the actors. I was totally surprised and then became quite angry because there were few people there. I texted all the members in the We-chat group to inform them not to be late before I hit the bed yesterday night. The play should involve around 20 people, However, only 5 of them were there, and they seemed to be asleep because they complained to me that it was too early to work. They thought it was not the formal performance, so there was no need to take it seriously. I got so mad and I called them one by one, and after about half an hour later, they were all there.
With anger smothered in my heart, I asked them to start the rehearse. Problems occurred on by one as if they were not here to perform. First, they almost couldn’t remember the lines, so the whole process was slow by their constant review of the manuscript. Second, the actors didn’t act on with the story-lines given in the play; instead they just improvised it so casually. Third, there were no passion in their eyes except for complaint and dislike. I felt at the bottom of the ice and the top of the volcano. But you know, to be the director and manager of such a group of people is hard. Yesterday I decided to have just one round of rehearsal tomorrow if the result was good. But seen from it, I had to consider having much more rounds because on the stage we needed to put on a perfect performance in the best state.
When the rehearsal was ended, I asked several girls in the team about why they behaved so disappointingly, and they told me it was just because of the time. So I realized that maybe I should not put them under such pressure and need to have a proper time schedule in the next time rehearsal to give a successful play performance.
Well, a terrible day it was!。
