本句是一个强调句型,强调的是主语this sense of failure。

①强调句型基本结构:肯定句式:It's/was+强调部分+that/who+非强调部分。
疑问句式:Is/Was it+强调部分+that/who+非强调部分?特殊疑问句式:特殊疑问词+ is/was it+that+非强调部分?②含有not...until...的句式:It is/was not until+强调部分+that+非强调部分。
③强调句型的判断:将强调句结构中的”is/ was...that/who...去掉,如果句子所剩下的部分不缺少任何成分,仍是一个完整的句子,这个句子就是强调句,否则就是其他从句。
Was it in Beijing that we knew each other?我们是在北京认识的吗?When was it that he left here?他是什么时候离开这儿的?It was not until his mother came back that he went to bed.直到他妈妈回来他才去睡觉。
【提示】强调句型是高考常见句型之一,其考查形式具有多样性,如考查it和that/who,考查强调句型的一般疑问句和特殊疑问句形式。
另外还会结合定语从句、状语从句、宾语从句、not...until...结构及主谓一致对其进行考查,这成为高考考查强调句型的一种趋势。
【对接高考】①(2012·上海高考)—Was it by cutting down staff she saved the firm?—No, it was by improving work efficiency.A.when B.whatC.how D.that【解析】本题是考查强调句的一般问句句式,对by cutting down staff进行强调。
句意:———是不是只有通过裁员她才能拯救公司的命运?——不是,要通过提高工作效率来拯救。
