“Healing Hands, Loving Spirit”Project ProposalHong Kong Model United Nations ClubForewordAs a noble group of elites, medical professions make changes to people’ lives. Quite a number of them care about current affaires, passionate towards what they can do besides their routine medical service, some may already made tremendous impacts; however due to limitation on time and professional requirement, most of them pay less attention on what’s happening beyond medical field, rarely speak out and even bearing subjective mindsets. It is necessary to bring out rooms and opportunities for discussion and understanding for a healthy development of the medical health care profession and even the whole society! To know about the world, contribute your part in the society by only sticking on books would be far from enough, we need to step out and touch the real world. In order to show real faces of the medical issues and policies around the world to our future health care professions, China is our start. With increasing exchanges on medical issues and information between Hong Kong and mainland China, issues like medical system, education and management are also highlighted. The only way to broaden their horizon on these local issues is to let them be there and see for themselves. However among the numbers of exchange activities on medical field, few are available for young medicine and nursing students. We, HKMUNC therefore push the project “Healing Hands, Loving Spirit”, hoping to broaden the international horizon of our future medical elites from medicine, Hong Kong to mainland China and, the world; at the same time, their loving spirits and healing hands can reach different parts of the world where poverty and illnesses still raged, they can still yet play their roles and serve Hong Kong in their best way.Hong Kong Model United Nations Club (HKMUNC)Hong Kong Model United Nations Club (HKMUNC) is a young organization. Established in 2004, HKMUNC aims at promoting MUN culture in the region, promoting world peace through understanding and cooperation between cultures and arousing youth attention on global issues. With the above objectives, HKMUNC has successfully drawn great attention in the society.Past Events of HKMUNC includes the HKMUN Conference 2008, HKGMUN Conference 2006, visits and workshops on global issues. We also emerge from overseas conferences, including Harvard National MUN, China National MUN and Beijing MUN with flying colours. With the supports from our honorable advisors, the MUN Conference 2009 has increased its scale from 200 delegates to 400 delegates, with 4 committees in total. Our Aims are to:·Enhance students' organization, communication, presentation and negotiation skills ·Developing participants’ skills as future leaders in society·Inspire students with the experience of exchanging ideas and cultures with universities students from other countries·Making an effort in promoting world peace through understanding and cooperation between cultures·Promote Model United Nations in the regionModel UN BackgroundThe origin of Model United Nations (MUN) dates back to the 20s with the establishment of the League of Nations, followed by its transformation to United Nations in 1945.MUN conference has been a student-oriented activity which simulates the UN General Assembly. About 400 MUN conferences are held worldwide every year, in which 200,000 high school and college students have taken part in. The sizes of the conferences vary, as they can be held locally, at classrooms or internationally, at theUN Headquarter. Teams of participants will become country members of the UN. Each MUN delegate acts as the country’s ambassador to the UN, and discusses world issues like human rights, terrorism and sustainable development. Students will learn to be leaders in MUN, which has been a training ground for leaders of different fields. MUN is also a valuable occasion to meet friends all over the world.Content of the “Healing Hands, Loving Spirit” ProjectThe Hong Kong Model United Nations Club is founded in 2005 with the mission to arouse youth’s awareness on global issues in the hope of building a better world. The Project is one of the specialized projects initiated and organized by the Club to achieve this mission. Through the Project Hong Kong’s younger generation serving in the medical and health care services constituencies can have a better understanding of the mainland’s medical system. Through exchanges of ideas and experiences, it is believed that more and more voluntary projects can be initiated and promulgated. The ultimate aim of the Project is to gather, select and nurture the elites in the medical and health care services constituencies who can contribute to the society at large.3 Learning DomainsThe Project contains a series of activities which aim to geminate participants’ knowledge and abilities in the following 3 learning domains:1. Knowledge AcquaintanceIt is hoped that through the series of activities the participants can have a greater understanding in the mainland’s medical and health care system and the world’s health services policies.2. Social ServicesThrough voluntary services, donation and promotion, the Project allows participants to contribute themselves to the mainland’s health and medical systems.3. Leadership SkillsParticipants are given opportunities to demonstrate and train their leadership skills.3 Developmental Stages1. Stage 1: ChinaAfter the handover, China and HK are getting interconnected in many aspects, especially the medical and health care services. As there are great cultural differences between HK and China, it is necessary for people to visit China to have a deeper understanding on the Chinese system. However, even there are great demand and necessity to more exchange opportunities, there are few chances open to medical and nursing students. Hence, the Project is initiated with the hope of creating more opportunities for medical students.2. Stage 2: The WorldThe Project not only gives a chance for participants to learn the Chinese system but also the world system. This will without doubt widen the horizon of the participants whose experiences can help to improve HK and mainland’s medical and health care system. Besides, the Project also organizes service trips to poorer countries around the world.3. Stage 3: HKThe final stage is HK. We hope that the Project can gather and nurture a group of future leaders in the medical and health care constituencies, who have the abilities and commitment to contribute to HK, China and the World.2 Directions1. The Establishment of A FundThe Project aims to establish a fund to prolong and sustain the series of activities.2. Partnership with World PartnersThe Project is looking for a global partner in order to promote the activities worldwide. The Project’s Plan1st Year: Opening of the Project andSichuan Earthquake ReliefFuture:Nurturingleaders withexpertise. People’s livelihood, without a question, becomes more convenient. However, there is darkness whenever there is brightness. It is witness in the past few decades that urban diseases are emerging shockingly while the cost-benefit conception overshadows other important ethical values. An invisible wall is built as a result of intense pressure in modern world. In face of the chronic situation of modern world, all people are presumed to take an active role to change the problematic phenomena. Experts in the medical and health care services constituencies are always labelled as indifferent to social affairs either because they are preoccupied with their over-burdened work or they cannot find a channel to participate. Healing Hands, Loving Spirit Project is thus established by the Hong Kong Model United Nations Club to adjust this disappointing state. Participants are not only given a chance to contribute themselves to the society but also build up their leadership through their involvement in different projects.Healing Hands, Loving Spirit Project hopes that brightness will outshine the darkness by gathering a group of committed and talented future leaders in medical and health services constituencies. We hope that you will join or support this programme so that loving spirit can be spread to mainland, Asia and even the world by your healing hands.。

The government of China is laying great effort to encourage students to start up businesses. “Booming private capital is key to overall economic development”, says Prime Ministry Wen Jiabao. However, the lack of knowledge and experience is setting obstacles for the students. Therefore, we need urgently to strengthen students’ ability in doing business. This proposal aims at introducing how the organization “Brilliant” plans to carry out the project of fostering entrepreneurship of college students in Hangzhou, and asking for a fund of 833,000 yuan to support the project.Statement of NeedAccording to the Ministry of the Human Resource and Social Security of People’s Republic of China, the number of graduate students reached 6.99 million in 2013. It is the greatest number of students ever since China was founded. However, as the economic growth rate slows down, the increase in the number of jobs falls short of the increase in the number of graduate students. According to a survey conducted to 500 companies in February, the expected recruitment rate would drop by 15% in 2013. That means, the graduate students are facing a tougher employment environment and the society is facing more unemployment problems and other related economic and socialproblems. Hangzhou, as one of the First-tier cities, with 446.7 thousand college students, is undoubtedly facing the same problems tooHangzhou has a GDP of 701.9 billion in 2011, and the annual economic growth rate has been above 10% since 2003. Although the government in Hangzhou has been encouraging graduate students to become entrepreneurs, the confidence index in setting up businesses is falling in the recent years and reached the lowest point of 80.11 in 2012. According to statistics, 1/3 of the graduates who started their own business three years ago gave up their business. One of the biggest reasons is that the graduate students lack ability and experience in running businesses. As a result, many graduate students have to take jobs with lower wages or longer working hours or simply become unemployed. The employment report of Chinese graduates showed that about 14% of graduate students are underemployed. Underemployment is defined by International Labor Organization an underutilization of the productive capacity of the employed population. Underemployment has significant impact on the society. It is associated with many of the same consequences that come with unemployment such as decreased national productivity, heavier social burdens, increased risk of depression and stress, lower self-esteem andlow subjective well-being American Psychological Association.Statistics also show that the job satisfaction degree was not high for graduates. It’s only 35% for those who graduated in 2008 and have been in the work force for 3 years, 47% for those who graduated in 2011 and have been in the work force for half a year. Low job satisfaction could lead to poor work performance, higher employee turnover rates and higher stress. Therefore, it is urgent that students be equipped with skills and experience to start up businesses. It is the requirement of the economic development in Hangzhou today and in the future. Setting up businesses not only helps graduates themselves to find a job, it also creates jobs for others and promotes economic growth. Statistics show that China's small and medium-sized enterprises account for 99.9% of the total enterprises. And they provide over 84% of the jobs, 71% of sales revenue, 50% of the tax revenue, 66% of invention patents, 82% of the new product research and development, 68% of foreign trade exports. Therefore, setting up businesses is an effective and productive way to solve the problems of unemployment and underemployment. The following section will offer more detailed description about the project.Project DescriptionGoal: To foster entrepreneurship of the college graduates in Hangzhou who want to set up businessesObjective: -To establish centers in each Higher Education Zone in Hangzhou to carry out the program.-To provide practical business knowledge, skills and experience to college graduates in Hangzhou who want to start up businesses through trainings and internships within 6 months. And therefore, improve the probability of success in running businesses-To help solve the unemployment and underemployment problems in Hangzhou, and to help improve the economic performance.-To promote innovation and enrich the diversity of the marketPlans of ActionEstablish centers in each Higher Education Zone in Hangzhou There are 4 main Higher Education Zones in Hangzhou, Xiaoheshan Higher Education Zone, Xiasha Higher Education zone, Binjiang Higher Education Zone and Zijingang Higher education zone. Brilliant plans to build one center in each of the Higher Education Zone. And the main center will be in the largest Higher Education Zone, Xiasha Higher Education Zone. Thecenters will be used mainly for offices to do administrative works. Classrooms and equipment are saved as these resources are available in schools.TrainingBrilliant will provide training each week on Saturday. Why I want to make an elevator? It is because I live in the sixth floor. There is a lot of inconvenience to students who live in the sixth floor. When coming back or leaving the school, we always need to bring our luggage. At this time, I will feel unhappy because I have to take the heavy bag to go down or up six floors! So if I can make an elevator to help me take the luggage to the sixth floor, it will improve my life greatly.

And they provide over 84% of the jobs, 71% of sales revenue, 50% of the tax revenue, 66% of invention patents, 82% of the new product research anddevelopment, 68% of foreign trade exports. Therefore, setting up businesses is an effective and productive way to solve the problems of unemployment and underemployment. After that, Brilliant will investigate how many students take the internships and how they find the lectures and internships. This also helps to identify the achievements and areas for improvement of our organization. Further investigation will be carried out after one year, aiming to find out how many students actually set up their businesses and how the businesses run.Brilliant will carry out the evaluation by doing surveys and interviews. Besides, Brilliant will also collect feedbacks from internship companies. Our website system and our faculty will help to assess students’improvement and levels of participation. Also, students are required to write reports after the internship. The lecturers will evaluate the reports to determine if the organization has reached its goals.BudgetBrilliant also did a careful calculation about the budget. The rent for the three offices is calculated at 13,500 Yuan per month. And for each office, 2 computers, one printer, one air conditioner and furniture will be needed. The prices of each item are calculated according to the current market price and are listed in the following chart. The rent for classrooms and teaching facilities are saved as they are available on campuses.AdvertisementThe advertisement fee is calculated at 1,200 Yuan per month, which includes magazines, free handouts, and posters.Travel CostThe travel cost is calculated at 1,200 Yuan per month.
