Here are some letters from our readers. ■Yes, many cyclists behave dangerously. Many drivers are disrespectful of cyclists. But pedestrians are probably the worse offenders.People of all ages happily walk along the pavement with eyes and hands glued to the mobile phone, quite unaware of what is going on around them. They may even do the same thing while crossing a road at a pedestrian crossing or elsewhere. The rest of us have to evade (避让) them or just stand still to wait for the unavoidable collision. The real problem is that some pedestrians seem to be, at least for the moment, in worlds of their own that are, to them, much more important than the welfare of others.——Michael Horan■I love the letter from Bob Brooks about cyclists (Viewpoints, May 29). I am afraid they seem to think they own the roads.I was walking across Altrincham Road one morning when a cyclist went round me and on being asked what he was doing he shouted at me.The government built a cycle lane on the road but it is hardly used. The police do nothing. What a laugh they are!The cyclists should all have to be made to use the cycle lanes and wear helmets, fluorescent (发荧光的) jacket and lights at night and in the morning they should pay some sort of tax and be fined for not wearing them.——Carol Harvey■Cyclists jump on and off pavements (which are meant for pedestrians), ride at speed along the pavements, and think they have a special right to go through traffic lights when they are on red.I was almost knocked down recently by a cyclist riding on the pavement when therewas a cycle lane right next to him.Other road users, including horse riders, manage to obey the rules so why not cyclists? It's about time they had to be registered and insured, so when they do hit a pedestrian or a vehicle, or cause an accident, at least they can be treated and there might be an opportunity to claim.——JMLWrite to Viewpoints of the newspaper.1. Michael Horan wrote the letter mainly to show that _______.A. drivers should be polite to cyclistsB. road accidents can actually be avoidedC. sine pedestrians are a threat to road safetyD. walking while using phones hurts one's eyes2. Carol Harvey suggests that cyclists should _______.A. be provided with enough roadsB. be asked to ride on their own lanesC. be made to pay less tax for cyclingD. be fined for laughing at policemen3. What is a complaint of JML?A. Very few drivers are insured.B. Cyclists ride fast on pavements.C. Pedestrians go through red traffic lights.D. Horse riders disrespect other road users.4. The underlined word "they" in the third letter refers to ______.A. accidentsB. vehiclesC. pedestriansD. cyclists5. The three letters present viewpoints on _______.A. real source of road dangerB. ways to improve road facilitiesC. measures to punish road offencesD. increased awareness of road rules。

Unit 4 Sharing Period III Grammar
③ 在定语从句中充当一个_____________________。
定语从句三步骤:第一找出________________;第二看先行词在定语从句中的____________(做主语、宾语或状语);第三选择合适的___________________。
①I said nothing, _______________________________________________________.
(make)②I have the book about__________________________________________________.
(talk)(1)能用于介词+关系代词引导定语从句的代词只有which 和whom.① The farm _____________________________________ has taken on a new look.
② Who is the man _________________________________________________.
①This is the room (which / that) Lu Xun used to live in.= This is the room _____________________________________________.②This is the person ____________________________________________.
This elephant is like a snake, as / which anybody can see.He left her, as / which was strange.(1) 引导词代表前面整个主句并在从句中作主语且谓语动词不是系动词时只能用which; He didn’t say a word, which surprised us. (不能用as)(2) 下列情况下只能用as: 放于句首;表示“正如,正像”时;用于类似插入语的句式中(as is said above; as is known to all, as it is …)①______________________________ in the newspaper, talks between the twocountries are making progress.
All that I know is that he has made up his mind to heave the country for a new place.= ___________________ is that ……
①All the boys _________________________________in the river are from Wuhan.
②He is one of the students ________________________________________.
③He is the only one of the students __________________________________.
①Was it during the Second World War _________________________________ (die)他是不是在二战期间死去的?②--- Where did you get to know her?--- It was on the farm ________________________________________.
①You should leave the toy _________________________________________. (find)我应该把玩具放在你能找到它的地方.②I still remember the bus stop _____________________________________.
①He had to settle the problem __________________________________________.
②Word came _________________________________________________ in Hainan.
①He is such a kind person that everybody likes him. __________________________②He is such a kind person as everybody likes . ______________________________三、【合作探究】1. She wore a heavy fur coat in such a hot day, ____________________________.
2. It is widely accepted that children ________________________will become spoiled.(give)
3. This is the explanation ____________________________________ by him. (put)4. Those ___________________________________ may do as the games show them to andbecome a threat to society.
5. Water, ______________________________________, makes life possible. (seem)6. Between the two parts of the concert is an interval, __________________________________ an ice cream.
7. Now you can see we’ve come to the point ______________________________.(need)
8. The city ________________________________ is very hot and damp in summer (grow)
9. The Royal Society gave him the pportunity__________________________.(wait)10. Music is a universal language, ______________________________________for JayChou to be popular in America.
