VESSEL LAUNCHING PROCEDURE
Launching Vessel: SEVAN 300 FPSO (Yard No.H021)
Main Dimensions and Hull Shape:
∙Ship’s length of all 66.00m at main deck (27m above base line)
∙From base line up to 4300mm shall be a cylinder shape with
64.30m diameter.
∙4300mm from base line and upper shall be a cylinder shape of
60.00m diameter.
Building Berth and Slipway Information:
∙Gradient of building berth: 1/20
∙Gradient of slipway: 1/20
∙Number of slipways: 8
∙Total length and width of slipways: 2x70m, 2x63m, 2x56m, 2x35m;
∙Total effective slipway length: 448m
∙Width of slipway: 1.40m
∙Effective width of slipways grease surface: 1.30m
∙Total effective slipway grease surface area: 582.4 m2
∙Elevation of the lower end of the slipway upper surface: -2.00m ∙Distance between top face and base line: 0.80m
∙Weight of slipways and blocks: approx. 200t
Free floating condition of the FPSO after launching:
∙Displacement: 11060 +5% = 11613t
∙COG: LCG 3.40m (FWD), TCG -0.06m (STBD), VCG 17.47m (ABL) ∙Mean draft: dm = 3.580m
∙Fore draft: df = 5.180m
∙Aft draft: da = 1.980m
∙Trim: t = 3.200m
∙Trim angle: ¢= 0.0498 rad = 2.85 deg. = 1/20.1
∙Transverse metacentric height:
GM=KM–KG=77.18-17.47=59.71m ∙Heel angle φ= 0.06 deg.
unching condition
1.1Owner shall approve this procedure before launching.
1.2According to the launch calculation (HT-OG-H021-BD-D005), the
depth of the water in way of the slipway shown in figure 1:
1.3Stoppers
4 sets of stoppers will be use. The capacity of each stopper is 300
Tons. The arrangement/location of the stoppers is shown in the
attached SEVAN 300 launching slipway arrangement.
1.4Wax & Grease
According to the launch calculation (HT-OG-H021-BD-D005), the
capacity of the wax we choose should not be≤30t/m2
The thickness of the wax and Grease shown in figure 2:

1.5Weather
When the vessel launching, the wind should not exceed 15 Knots
(Nautical Mile per Hour) and not in rainstorm day
The atmospheric temperature should be between -5 0C to 30 0C.
2Preparation before launching
2.1Apply the wax and grease on the launchway.
2.2Install the sliding blocks on the launchway.
2.3Install wooden wedges and wedge tight.
2.4Install the stopper triggering wire.
2.5Install 2 temporary anchors.
2.6Install the jacks for emergence push; the capacity of each jack is 50t,
total 4 sets. The arrangement of the jacks shown in Slipway
Arrangement (Please see the SEVAN 300 launching slipway
arrangement).
2.7The government will close off the channel along the launching area
when the vessel is launching.
3. Check before launching
3.1Before launching, temporary anchors, slidingway and stopper shall
be checked to ensure it is installed correctly.
3.2The depth of the water along the launching area will be check
according to figure 1, also make sure that all obstacles are removed.
3.3All the double bottom manholes, sea chests and other opening will
be check to ensure they are closed properly.
3.4All sea fastening for the large loose items are to be tied down and
small loose items shall be placed in the forward bulkhead of
compartment.
3.5The tide will be check frequently by the tide marker which is at the
side of the launchway. The minimum tide for launching is 3.0m. 3.6Safety lines demarcating the hazardous area around the vessel are
to be installed. At the same time ensure all personnel who are not
involved are to be kept away from launching. Yard’s security officer and safety officer should be patrolling along this area to enforce
this.
4 Launching process
4.1.Remove tower ladders after the workers for the launching are on
board. All the workers on board must put on their life jacket and
personal safety equipment.
4.2.Remove the sandboxes and quick release supports in sequence.
They should be from center toward outboard and from forward
towards aft.
4.3.All workers are to move away from the hazard area as soon as
possible after removing work is complete.
4.4.The stopper is released to let the vessel slide down the launchway.
4.5.After the vessel is free float, the 2 temporary anchors will be
dropped into the sea to stop the vessel.
4.6.After the vessel is stabilized in the water, it is towed to the jetty by
4 x 3600 hp towing tugs (an additional tug will be on standby) with
assistance of 3 x 900hp work boats standby for general use.
4.7.Check all the tanks below the water line for damage during the
launching. Record the draft through draft marks.
