Dear Lucy,
I’d like to invite you to join us for a visit to the nearby nursing home next Saturday for the Double Ninth Festival. It is the day for the elderly in our culture. We’ll go and make dumplings
and cakes with the elderly people there. We’ll also spend s ome fun time together singing, dancing and playing games, which we hope will make them happy. We should be back at around 4 o’clock in the afternoon. If you are able to come with us, please let us know and we’ll wait for you at the gate at 9 in the morning.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节读后续写(满分25分)
Paragraph 1:
Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. When she knocked at the door, she found the door was locked and her mother was not in. Tired and sad, she sat down in front of the house. "Where could my mother be?" she wondered, "was she still angry with me?" Again, the scene of the quarrel appeared in her mind. She remembered her rudeness to her mother. Realizing that all the scolding from her mother was due to the fact that her mother really cared a lot about her, she felt rather ashamed, and tears began to roll down her cheeks.
Paragraph 2:
A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. She raised her head and saw the familiar face of her mother. "Here you come! I've been looking for you," she said, tired and relieved. Jenny couldn't help throwing herself into her mother's arms. "Mum, I'm so sorry and thank you for all you have done for me." She expressed her sincere apology and great gratitude. Hearing this, her mother smiled patting her back gently.
听力材料
Text 1
M: Hot, isn’t it? I am wet all over.
W: Yes, it’s even hotter than yesterday. What’s the temperature?
M: 39 degrees, the weather man said.
Text 2
W: Good morning, Dr. Cruz.
M: Hello, Mrs. Moore. Who’s your visitor?
W: Oh, this is my daughter Heather. She’s a writer, and her husband’s a teacher.
Text 3
W: I heard the fire broke out at two in the morning.
M: That’s right. And the fireman couldn’t put it out until five o’clock.
Text 4
W: Excuse me. Can you tell me where the nearest 7-Eleven is? I don’t know my way around here. M: Sure, but it’s pretty far. You might want to take a taxi or a bus.
W: Oh, I’d rather walk. I need to lose weight anyway.
Text 5
M: I’m not surprised you didn’t like that movie. I found it really frightening myself.
W: I did, too. I don’t care much for horror movies as a rule.
Text 6
W: How is your mother feeling these days?
M: Much better, thanks. She’ll be back home in a few days.
W: That’s wonderful. When will you be back at your job?
M: I think I’ll need a week to take care of her and do some cleaning.
W: Why don’t you hire someone to do it? You’ll be able to work and also have more free time.
M: I’d prefer to do it myself.
W: You’re a kind and thoughtful man. I admire you very much.
M: I’m just a regular son.
Text 7
M: Excuse me. How can I get to the bank? Bank of America, I mean. I don’t know the way.
W: Well, go straight ahead till you see a supermarket. The bank is just on the other side of the street.
M: Is it far from here?
W: Let me see. Uh, it’s fourteen blocks away. Not very far, but not very close, either.
M: Can I take a bus or something?
W: You can take bus No. 104 or streetcar B-201. It’s four stops away by bus and three stops away by streetcar.
M: But where can I take the streetcar?
W: Oh, the stop is just over there, by the bookstore. See?
M: Oh, I see it. Many thanks.
W: No problem.
Text 8
M: We’ve just moved into a new house.
W: Really? Congratulations!
M: Thank you. I think we want to buy a new television set.
W: What kind of television do you want to buy?
M: A color TV set, of course, but I’m not sure about the size. Maybe we should buy a big one. If we buy a small ne, we might have to exchange it in a few years for a bigger one. That would be a waste of money. What’s your opinion?
W: In my opinion, I don’t think it’s necessary to buy a very big one.
M: Any particular reason?
W: Yes. As far as I know, your living room isn’t very big. If you put a very big television there, it will be bad for your eyes. Besides, a small TV set can still pick up the same programs.
M: Hmm, that’s quite true. I’ll think about it.
W: You’d better decide quickly. Prices may go up soon.
Text 9
M: How did you sleep last night.
W: OK, I guess. But I think all the studying I did for physics last night affected my dreams.
M: What do you mean?
W: I mean that I dreamt about physics last night.
M: Dreamt about physics? What did you dream about?
W: Hmm, I think I remember Newton falling out of an apple tree, but I’m not too sure.
M: Jeez, you shouldn’t study so hard.
W: Nothing like this ever happened to you?
M: Well, once. I was having a really tough final exam in French, and I spent a whole week just studying. And I had a really strange dream about someone asking me questions in French.
W: What did the person ask?
M: I don’t know. In my dream, I kept explaining that I didn’t know a lot of French, and I kept
asking him if he knew English.
Text 10
Mr. Brown was tired of living in the big city where he worked. He wanted to move to the country and live in a house there. That way, he could get up early and go to his office in the city every day. He was looking for a house until he saw an ad in a newspaper one day. The ad said that a suitable house in a quiet area was up for sale at a reasonable price. It said that ht home was a stone’s throw away from a railway station from which there were frequent trains to the big city.
“That’s exactly what I need,” Mr. Brown said to himself. So, he called the housing agency and arranged to go there by train the next day to have a look at the house.
The housing agent met him at the station, and they started walking. It took them at least 15 minutes to get to the house. When they reached, Mr. Brown said angrily, “I’m very interested to meet the man who threw the stone you mentioned in the newspaper!”
