Context-aware system aims at recognizing the surrounding environment of the sensor while providing appropriate high-level context to the service. And context-aware system enables the middleware function in the ubiquitous infrastructure. Also an independent functioning of the enterprise providing the service and context-aware middleware should be guaranteed. There has to be a match function between an application and context-aware middleware. Therefore, ontology which describes the common concept is needed. The ontology can bridge this gap. Thus, ontology guarantees the matching between a service and the context-aware system.In a service center, service and service description is provided to the context-aware system within a mobile system in a download. If the service and service description are downloaded through a network to the context-aware system in a mobile system, the context-aware system can recognize the downloaded service description. Therefore, an interaction with a service and context-aware system is created. Service metadata, including the required context list is described in the service description. The service adaptation agent in the context-aware system analyzes this description, so that this agent can mediate the context between context-aware system and service.Thus the context-aware system uses ontology. The service manufacturing enterprisecan independently describe the necessary context in a service description.3.The service adaptation agent of the context-aware system solves themismatch of the context between sensors through the language arbitrationand deduction.In this research, the context-aware system was designed and developed in the field of ubiquitous health care (U-HealthCare).2 Context-Aware Systems for U-HealthCareBecause interest in well-being is increasing among the aging population, many individuals are interested in ubiquitous health care [1]. In order for U-HealthCare service to be available to a user anytime and anywhere, the infrastructure for the ubiquitous environment should be prepared. Optimally, the system providing health care service to a user should be based on a wearable computer or a small-sized portable personal computer. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the context-aware middleware appropriate for the embedded environment in order to provide U-HealthCare services.A U-HealthCare infrastructure providing services for managing users’ health anytime and anywhere is shown in Figure 1.Fig. 1. LeeIt is necessary to have the Mobile System and the Remote HealthCare Center, Sensor Device and communication protocol to support U-HealthCare.The Sensor Device senses the user’s physiological data. This is transferred to the context-aware system of the Mobile System through the communication protocol such as either the BlueTooth or Zigbee.The Sensor Device is composed of vest type, wrist type and chest type. This Sensor Device measures the user’s physiological data with body temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration.The Mobile System is portable and this enables the context-aware system installed here to recognize any situation anytime, anywhere. The context-aware system receives the sensor data, and converts it to the context. This transforms the context into a format as specified by the service. The applications of the Mobile System are downloaded from the Remote HealthCare Center and performed. The applications request the necessary context through an interface with the context-aware middleware.In the remote, the Remote HealthCare Center is the portal server deciding all comprehensive tasks regarding health care. This enables the services such as manufacture and publishing. When a user logs in to the Remote HealthCare Center, and selects the requisite service, it gets downloaded onto the Mobile System. The Component Manager of the Mobile System receives the service and then notifies context-aware middleware of the service and its description. Then, the Service Adaptation Agent analyzes the downloaded service description using ontology. Thus, the service and sensor device develop independently. Moreover, the Remote HealthCare Center creates the user profile to be used in context-aware middleware based on the member information input by a user.The Remote HealthCare Center manages the users. All health related information is transmitted from the Mobile System where it is stored and managed. So when the user logs in to the HealthCare Center, he/she can review his/her own health care history.The doctor can also use the Remote HealthCare Center to designate the normal range for all input health information. Also the doctor can monitor the designated patient’s health data. So, it is possible to manage health care data in the remote.2.1 Contexts-Aware MiddlewareContext is any information that can be used to characterize the situation of an entity. And context-aware computing is the use of context to provide relevant information and/or services to the user, where relevancy depends on the particular task of the user [2]. A context-aware system should automatically recognize the situation which is based on various sensors. Context modeling is very important in context-aware systems to provide context for intelligent service.The object of the context-aware middleware is to make a low-level context with the high-level context and transfer the latter to the service. Moreover, the context-aware middleware guarantees the independence of a service and device and mediates the context information provided by a sensor in a service.Our context-aware middleware is based on this function and is shown in Figure 2.Seamless Service Adaptation in Context-Aware Middleware for U-HealthCare 1951Fig. 2. Context-Aware ArchitectureIn our research, the context-aware system uses the OSGi-based component management. So, if the bundle is downloaded from the Remote HealthCare, it is immediately practiced on OSGi. All compositional elements and applications of the Context-Aware system make up the bundle in the OSGi-base. Therefore those are managed by OSGi bundle manager with a plug-in and plug-out.The Context-Aware Middleware is composed of the Context Provider, Context Integrator, Context Interpreter, Profile Manager, Context Manager, Service Adaptation Agent and Service Management Agent.The Context Provider creates the user’s physiological data which is detected by the sensor. If the sensor transmits data to the Context Provider by using the Bluetooth or Zigbee communication protocol, the Context Provider extracts a feature from the user’s physiological data and then creates the low-level context. Our system’s sensor device can sense the skin temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration and falling detection and activity.The Context Integrator integrates the context coming from the different Context Providers. The Context Integrator then selects the most suitable context among the different context providers. The integrated context is delivered to the Context Interpreter. If two or more Context Providers generate the same context, the Context Integrator selects the best context provider in accordance with the sensor accuracy in the context ontology.The Context Interpreter plays the roles of converting the low-level context into the high level context. Even in this case, ontology and healthcare related knowledge base are used. For example, the simple low-level context such as skin temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration is transferred to the Context Interpreter, which reasons them by using the knowledge base through the Inference Engine. Then, the high-level context creates a result for body temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration and emergency determination and whether they are normal or not.Ontology is a formal, explicit specification of a shared conceptualization of a domain [3]. Ontology shares a common understanding of the structure of descriptive information and enables reuse of domain knowledge [4].1952 E.J. Ko, H.J. Lee, and J.W. LeeMany ontology languages exist including Resource Description Framework Schema (RDFS) [5], DAML+OIL [6], and OWL [7]. OWL is a key to the Semantic Web and was proposed by the Web Ontology Working Group of W3C. OWL is a language for defining the web and is more expressive than other ontology languages such as RDFS. OWL is based on the Resource Description Framework (RDF) [8]. RDF embodies the idea of identifying objects using web identifiers and describing resources in terms of simple properties and property values formed by triple. This approach could make produce a new meta-data generating procedure using semantic relationships [8].In this research, we describe our health domain knowledge with ontology using WOL. Our context-modeling concept firstly proposes the use of context ontology for U-HealthCare using OWL. We designed context modeling based on the physiological data of the user and focused on U-HealthCare.Our healthcare ontology’s outline is as shown in Figure 3.User context uses the Environment Context. The Environment Context contains temporal information like date, time and also has the use’s location information. The User context owns Device context. The Device context describes the user’s Mobile Device and Sensor Device. The User context has the Profile and Psychological data and Physiological data. The Profile describes the user’s profile information, name, age, height, address, phone number. And the Psychological data means the user’s emotion like no emotion, angry, hate, romantic love, platonic love, reverence. The Physiological data has the skin temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, and activity and stress level.Fig. 3. HealthCare Ontology OutlineThe Profile Manager looks after the user profile information. The profiles are auto-downloaded if the user profile is changed in the Remote HealthCare Center. The user profile includes the name, id, home server IP, and normal range of skin temperature, blood pressure, respiration and selected service list.This profile information can be delivered to an application by the context-aware middle which is reasoned out by the Context Interpreter. If the user profileSeamless Service Adaptation in Context-Aware Middleware for U-HealthCare 1953 information is changed, the changed information is notified to the context-aware middleware automatically.The Context Manager looks into context delivery, the context selection and the context notification. The Context Manager is the bridge between the context producer and context consumer.The Service Adaptation Agent matches the context between the context provided by the context-aware middleware and the context which a service requests. If service and service description are downloaded into the Mobile System, the OSGi component manager notifies the Agent which analyzes the service description and deduces information. By inference the context-aware middleware understands the service’s request context described in the service description.The Service Management Agent invokes the service and manages the service’s life cycle. If there is an application which transmits the user’s physiological data in the designated time with the Remote HealthCare Center, the Service Management monitors the invoked time for monitoring service.2.2 Contexts-Aware Service AdaptationIn the Remote HealthCare Center, a service and service description are downloaded alongside. The service description describes the developing company, and the execution environment of a service, the execution condition of a service, and a needed context.The Service Adaptation Agent analyzes the service description of a service leading to its download. The context required by a service is analyzed among the service description. The Service Adaptation Agent matches the context between context-aware middleware’s context and the context used in the application by using the inference engine.The Inference Engine uses the knowledge base and ontology to infer context. Ontology is used in order to make explicit assumptions and to separate domain knowledge from operational knowledge. Additionally, ontology has the advantage of sharing of knowledge, logic inference and the reuse of knowledge. If any system uses ontology, the system can provide a general expressive concept and offer syntactic and semantic interoperability. By mapping concepts in different ontologies, structured information can be shared. The Inference Engine applies health care domain so that the Service Adaptation Agent can context between service and context-aware middleware.The matching algorithm is as follows.First, service description is downloaded and parsed.Second, this is analyzed and the service requiring context list is created.Third, by using the knowledge base defined in ontology throughout the inference engine, context meaning is recognized.Fourth, the context between the context-aware middleware and service is matched.Fifth, context delivery between the context-aware middleware and service using the common concept is undertaken.The matching algorithm of the Service Adaptation Agent is as follow.1954 E.J. Experimental Testing SystemThe development environment is composed of the PDA which operates on a context-aware framework. The Model is IPAQ 5450; the CPU is 400MHz, having 64M of Memory. We installed the familiar 0.7.2 for embedded Linux. We used JENA [9] and JESS [10] as an inference engine in the context-aware framework. The operating system of the HealthCare Portal Server is kernel 2.4.23 and Red Hat Linux 9.0 was installed. The memory size is 1G and the CPU is a Pentium 4.Seamless Service Adaptation in Context-Aware Middleware for U-HealthCare 1955 The HealthCare Portal Server and PDA are connected by WLAN. And The PDA and wearable device are connected BlueTooth Protocol.3 ConclusionIn ubiquitous environment, it is not necessary that all services should be downloaded and running. With regard to the Mobile System, necessary services may be downloaded from the Remote Service Server when the user selects the service. All services are now adapted and interfaced with the context-aware middleware seamlessly. This system can offer independent functioning between the sensor device and the service.When a service is downloaded, the service description information is analyzed by using ontology and the knowledge base, so that the context-aware middleware can understand the context that the service wants. Thus, the interface between context-aware middleware and service is guaranteed.
