On TV Shows

Nowadays, TV shows are very popular. TV programs like Super Girls and Happy boys have attracted thousands of people to participate, and many more wait to watch them when they are on show.

Why are so many people interested in such programs? Advocates say that these programs provide excellent opportunities for young people to express themselves and to show their specialty. They help improve their self-confidence and can add to their courage to face all kinds of challenges.

Howevere,/on the other hand, some people criticized these programs, arguing that they are not only a waste of energy, money and time, but also a revelation/reveal of social vanity/vain.

In my opinion, we need not be too critical about/of such TV programs. If they can bring happiness to those who participate in them as well as the audience, they are justifiably entitled to prosper.

Should English Classes Be Compulsory for Students?

Most universities in China have made English a compulsory course, which had aroused many complaints among students. Many students wish that English could be removed from the list of compulsory courses.

However, I think it is of great significance for all university students to study English. To begin with, as an international language, English is widely used. Today, university students must master the language if they are to communicate with foreigners and to participate in the fierce international competition in the future. In addition, studying English as a foreign language does not only provide students with a useful tool for communication, but also open a door to cultures different from our own. As is universally acknowledged, mutual understanding among different cultures is vital for keeping the world safe and peaceful.

Therefore, I strongly recommend that all students should take advantage of the compulsory course, and try to study English well.

A letter to the University President

Dear Mr. President,

I’m a sophomore majoring in Law. I’m writing to make suggestions on improving the education quality of our university.

First, I think there is still much room for improvement concerning our classroom education. Some teachers just recite textbooks and their courses are boring. It’s not very helpful for us. We need more interaction and communication in the classes, and we welcome more lively and practical courses.

Second, we students need help to develop our initiative in our study. I hope our university can invite some famous people to deliver lectures to us on how to study. Finally, in order to get all students involved in our studies, I suggest some contest be held in the university. For example, the Department of Law can have legal knowledge contests.

Unemployment upon Graduation

The recent years have witnessed an unfavorable social phenomenon—more and more college students become unemployed as soon as they graduate.

After serious thinking, we can find three possible reasons accounting for this trend. First of all, the expansion of universities provides chances for more students to receive higher education, but the job market cannot develop at the same speed. What’s more, the situation is even worse with those students who uniformly chose the “hot”majors such as economics and accounting. In the third place, many students think too highly of themselves—they choose not to work at all if they are not satisfied with the job. They may think the pay is not satisfactory or the job is not decent at all.

The solutions to this problem seem more than clear on this occasion. The government should help create more job opportunities; university authority should be extremely careful in enrolling new students, taking the job market into consideration. Students also should think twice before making the decision.
