A Word That Has Changed The World
Good afternoon, distinguished judges and fellow students. It’s a great honor for me to speak to you today. When it comes to the word that has changed the world, I must give priority to the word “curiosity”.
You know, On a warm summer evening in the 17th century,Newton was sitting under an apple tree,suddenly，he was hit by the most famous apple in history.“Ouch！””W hat’s that!”“An apple?”“Why！？Why the apple don't hit the sky?”All of these inspired Newton’s intense curiosity ,then he found the law of universal gravitation . When he found it, the world was changed forever.
And you know,another guy:Henry Ford.He was always interested in how things worked. He once plugged up the spout of a teapot and placed it on the fire. Then he waited to see what would happen. The water boiled and, of course, turned to steam. Since the steam had no way to escape, the teapot exploded.The young inventor was badly scalded .Ford’s year of curiosity paid off. He dreamed of a horseless carriage. When he built one, the world was changed forever.
Curiosity is a great amount of energy. We are most curious when we are babies, roaming around eating and smelling everything in sight. Apparently, the majority of chirldren are
more curious than adults. From what they say can show it .Kids don’t say “wait”,they say “wait up!Hey wait up!”Coz when you are little your life is up. Your future is up.Everything you want is up.“Wait up！Hold up！Shup up！”“Momma，clean up ！Let me stay up！”Parents of course are just the opposite.Everything is down.“Just calm down!Slow down! Calm down here!sit down!put that down!”There are so many differences between kids and adults. By the time flies, the majority of chirldren are benifit from their curiosity, from which they understand anythings they want. Nevertheless many adults who careless about anything would suffered a lot.Why your life seems so grey? A world without curiosity would be boring .
So,Whether sixty or sixteen or six, there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonders,the lure of curiosity, the unfailing childlike appetite of what's next and the joy of the game of living. Then the world will change cause you are curious about everything. And curiosity can be a driving force to motivate us. And curiosity can maintain patience. Only when one is curious about something, can he operate his mind and generate something creative. And when creativity is in full operation and results in things which never existed before, one gets more
and more curious about things happening all around him.And finally,the world has changed!
Without curiosity, students were forced to swallow innumerable facts,confess their validity and forget them after exams. Without curiosity, learners were bereft of the freedom to imagine, the ability to ask questions and the chances to modify the old theories. Without curiosity, how could our civilization,the Age of Reason, make progress?
To sum up, we must keep our curiosity and a good habit to learn the world. It is curiosity that enables us to tell the true from the false.So keep asking why ,it can help you to change your world and even our world. Thank you.。
