The history of Walt Disney

The history of Walt Disney

The history of Walt DisneyWalt Disney arrived in California in the summer of 1923with dreams and determination, but little else. He had made a short film called Alice's Wonderland(爱丽丝梦游仙境), and he planned to use it as his "pilot" film to sell a series of these Alice Comedies to a distributor. On October 16, 1923, a New York distributor, M. J. Winkler, contracted to release the Alice Comedies, and this date became the formal beginning of The Walt Disney Company.October 16 ,1923----The Walt Disney Company, which was going to become a leading name in family entertainment for much of the 20th century, was founded by Disney brothers—Walter Disney and Roy Oliver Disney. In 1927----sound had been added to motion pictures, and a process for making movies in color was developed a few years later. Disney and his staff made imaginative use of sound and color. In the 1930s---- During the Great Depression in the USA. At that time, people aspired to be happy. Disney established a kingdom for people all over the world with their own cartoon art. The monarch of this magic kingdom is no man but a mouse -- Mickey Mouse(米老鼠). Disney himself provided Mickey Mouse’s voice. In 1932----the Disney cartoon in color called Flowers and Trees《花与树》was the first cartoon in full Technicolor. In 1937----Disney issued the first full-length animated(长篇动画片)film to be produced by a studio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs(白雪公主与七个小矮人). It became one of the most popular movies in history.Disney’s later full-length animated films included Pinocchio《木偶奇遇记》(1940), Dumbo(小飞象)(1941), Bambi (小鹿班比)(1942), Cinderella(灰姑娘)(1950), Alice in Wonderland(爱丽丝梦游仙境)(1951), Peter Pan(彼得潘)(1953), Lady and the Tramp(小姐与流浪汉)(1955), Sleeping Beauty(睡美人)(1959) and The Jungle Book (森林王子)(released in 1967, after his death). In 1940---- Disney released the second animated film Pinocchio《木偶奇遇记》and it was the first time that Disney won two big music awards, which performed well at the box-office(票房).During World War II----With limited staff and little operating capital, Disney's feature films during much of the 1940s were "package films," or collections of shorts, such as The Three Caballeros(三骑士)(1943) and Melody Time(旋律时刻)(1947), which performed poorly at the box-office.In 1950----The release of Cinderella(灰姑娘)proved that feature-length animationcould still succeed in the marketplace.Other releases of the period included Alice in Wonderland(爱丽丝漫游仙境)(1951) and Peter Pan (1953) before the war began, and Disney's first all-live action feature, Treasure Island(金银岛)(1950). Other early all-live-action Disney films included The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrier Men (1952), The Sword and the Rose(宝剑与玫瑰)(1953), and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea(海底两万里)(1954).On July 18, 1955----Walt Disney opened Disneyland to the general public. On December 15, 1966----Walt Disney died of lung cancer, and Roy Disney took over as chairman, CEO, and president of the company. For most people, the name Walt Disney is linked to images of Mickey Mouse, Snow White and theme parks. Last year, the Walt Disney Family Museum opened in California. Richard Benefield is head of the museum.RICHARD BENEFIELD: Well, this Museum is really about the man, Walt Disney. Walt Disney, during his lifetime, received 932 awards for his public service to mankind as well as for his professional achievements. And in this lobby area, we have 248.Disney received 32 awards from America’s motion picture industry. Benefield says they include a special award for the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. The pictures and videos in the museum show the private side of Walt Disney.RICHARD BENEFIELD: This entire wall has drawings that were done by Walt while he was in high school.Disney was born in1901 in Chicago. At the age of 20, he went to Hollywood.RICHARD BENEFIELD: This wall here, he had just started to do a prototype of something called The Alice Comedies. The Alice Comedies used images of a live-action girl and an animated cat. Disney’s big success came after he finished an animated story about a mouse. He and his wife Lilly decide on a name for the mouse while going to Hollywood.RICHARD BENEFIELD: And on that fateful trip from New York to Hollywood, Walt came up with the idea of using a mouse for his next cartoon character. And he said to Lilly, What about Mickey Mouse? And, she said, that’s good. I think that will do just fine. And that’s how Mickey Mouse was born in 1928 on a train ride from New York to Hollywood. This is the earliest known picture of Mickey Mouse. Steamboat Willie was Disney’s first film to combine voice, music and animated images. He used beats from a bouncing ball so that the sound would agree with the images.Yet Disney’s life was not always happy.RICHARD BENEFIELD: In 1940, Walt lost both his parents, and not shortly after that his company experienced a very divisive strike. It was the early days of the labor movement in the United States. He was very hurt by the strike, which shut down operations for quite a period of time. But Disney recovered, and his company went on to produce films like Peter Pan and 101 Dalmatians. He also had the idea for theme parks that celebrated the stars of his movie.RICHARD BENEFIELD: This walk down the ramp in general celebrates Walt’s love of trains, and how that led him to really found Disneyland which, of course, one of the first rides at Disneyland was a train that ran all around the park.Walt Disney dies of lung cancer in 1966. He was 65 years old.TV ANNOUNCER: “Walt Disney, the master of an entertaining empire, the most complete and influential showman of this generation, died. Many people around the world mourned the man whose creations brought happiness to their lives.I am Jim Tedder.。

大学英语作文一次我永远不会忘记的旅行

大学英语作文一次我永远不会忘记的旅行The Best Trip Ever!Wow, where do I even begin? I just had the most amazing, incredible, mind-blowing trip of my entire life! It was seriously so fun and exciting that I will never, ever forget it as long as I live.It all started a few months ago when my mom and dad told me and my little brother that we were going to Disney World for our summer vacation this year! I could hardly believe my ears. Disney World? The happiest place on Earth? With Mickey Mouse, Cinderella's castle, and all those crazy cool rides? No way!As soon as they said it, I started jumping up and down screaming "YAYYYY DISNEY WORLD! DISNEY WORLD!" I was sooooooo excited I could hardly stand it. I had been watching Disney movies and seeing commercials for Disney World on TV my whole life, and I always dreamed of going there one day. And now that dream was finally coming true! The weeks leading up to the trip felt like they took forever. I counted down the days on my Disney Princess calendar, marking off each one with a big red X as it passed. I talked about Disney World constantly to anyone who would listen - my friends, my teachers, my grandparents, the mailman, you name it. Anytimethe subject even barely came up, I would shout "I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD" at the top of my lungs. My poor parents definitely got tired of hearing about it after a while! Finally, after what felt like an eternity of waiting, the big day arrived. We woke up at the crack of dawn, stuffed all of our suitcases into the car, and hit the road bright and early. The drive took forever and a day, but I didn't mind one bit. I spent the whole time playing Disney scene it? games, singing along to Disney songs at maximum volume, and pestering my parents with "Are we there yet??" every 15 minutes. At long last, after hours and hours in the car, I saw the magical words on the sign - "Welcome to Walt Disney World!" I couldn't stop bouncing up and down in the backseat as we drove through the gates. My face probably had the biggest, silliest grin you've ever seen. We had arrived! As soon as we checked into our hotel room, we headed straight for the Magic Kingdom park. Stepping through those front gates onto Main Street U.S.A. was like something out of a dream. The sights, the sounds, the smells...it was all just indescribable magic. I kept having to pinch myself to make sure it was real!We spent the entire first day just wandering around the park in total awe, soaking it all in. Watching the Disney characters stroll by and waving to them was the coolest feeling ever. We rode classic rides like It's A Small World, the Haunted Mansion, and the Mad Tea Party spinning teacups until we were dizzy. Of course we had to stop for the iconic Mickey Mouse ear hats and lollipops too!The next few days were a total blur of theme park fun. We went to Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, riding every rollercoaster and seeing every show we possibly could. Meeting the Disney princesses and getting their autographs was definitely a highlight. I still can't believe I actually hugged Elsa and Anna from Frozen! And the food...oh man, the food was out of this world! We ate Mickey-shaped everything - ice cream bars, pretzels, waffles, you name it. The giant turkey legs were pretty much my favorite thing ever. I think I had about five of them over the course of the week!On our very last night there, we made sure to get prime viewing spots for the spectacular fireworks show over Cinderella's Castle. The colorful explosions in the night sky, timed perfectly to that classic Disney soundtrack, truly made theentire trip feel like a real-life fairytale. I'm pretty sure there were tears of pure joy streaming down my face as I watched it.When it was finally time to leave Disney and head back home, I was utterly devastated. I cried like a baby the whole drive out of the parks, begging my parents to never make us leave. That place had worked its magic on me and I never wanted the enchantment to end!But little did I know, the wonderful memories I made on that trip would allow the magic to last forever. Now whenever I'm having a bad day, I just close my eyes and think back to those incredible few days at Disney World. I picture myself whirling around on the teacup ride, taste those delicious turkey legs, and hear the booming fireworks over Cinderella's Castle once more. It's like being transported back to the happiest place on Earth all over again. That trip gave me something that will stick with me for the rest of my life - the simple joy, wonder, and magic of being a kid believing in fairy tales. No matter how old and grown-up I get, I'll never lose that feeling of enchantment thanks to Disney World. It was honestly the best trip ever, and I truly will never, ever forget it!。

1Dear friends:If you can dream it, you can do it.——Walt DisneyIt was a long four years. Even after I had actually graduated, the nightmares began to haunt me, the university would call to say I hadn’t truly graduated. There had been a mistake and there was just one more class I needed to take. I was always so relieved to wake up and realize that it had only been a bad dream. In reality, I had completed every course needed for my degree, and I was a full-fledged college graduate! Now, the rest of my life loomed ahead of me. Sometimes a bachelor’s degree prepares you for a specific occupation——you train to be an accountant, you graduate and get a position in an accounting firm. Often, however, your stint in college only prepares you to make further decisions regarding your future. You’re pretty sure what you don’t want to d o!During my senior year of college, I had toyed with the idea of changing my major. At that point, I had finally discovered what captured my heart. But, wanting to finally be finishing school was a stronger pull. So, I took a few courses in physiology and exercise science, but not enough to receive a degree in physical therapy. That would require advanced schooling, beyond my bachelor’s degree——and I just wasn’tready to tackle that. Having completed my B.C. degree, I didn’t have any intentionsof furthering my education. So, I did the safe thing and got an office job——the very thing I was sure that I didn’t want to do! I detested the office policies, the suits I had to wear and the downtown environment that I had to drive to every day. I knew this was not where I belonged. But god knew what path my career was to follow. A position opened up at the most exclusive health club in our city, so I applied. This was my kind of environment——an active, vibrant kind of place——completely at the opposite end of the spectrum from the office environment where I found myself. The position required that I work Saturday nights and Sunday mornings. Perfect, I thought! I could keep my office job Monday through Friday and work at my dream job on the weekends. This arrangement lasted several months until, eventually, a full-time position opened up and I was able to resign from my office job.Over the next few years, I worked my way up the leader, gaining experience in several different departments. I found my niche as the director of member services——catering to our clientele and providing them with numerous cutting-edge programs. I would have stayed at that job forever——it seemed to be the pinnacle of all my dreams fulfilled. Here were fellow employees who had a passion for the same things that I did——health and fitness. Yet again, god had other plans for my life.Within two years, a newer, bigger, better and more state-of-the-art health club facility was built——just five miles down the road. And, in turn, the owner lost many members to that club. And, in turn, the owner lost thousands of dollars. One by one we were each laid off. After trying unsuccessfully to land another similar positionelsewhere, I knew what I had to do. Go back to school!thanks!英语励志演讲2Just for today I will try to live through this day only and not tackle my whole life problem at once。
