3The end of the nineteenth century and the early years of the twentieth century were marked by the development of an international Art Nouveau style, characterized by sinuous lines, floral and vegetable motifs, and soft evanescent coloration. The Art Nouveau style was an eclectic one, bringing together elements of Japanese art, motifs of ancient cultures, and natural forms. The glass objects of this style were elegant in outline, although often deliberately distorted, with pale or iridescent surfaces. A favored device of the style was to imitate the iridescent surface seen on ancient glass that had been buried. Much of the Art Nouveau glass produced during the years of its greatest popularity had been generically termed "art glass." Art glass was intended for decorative purposes and relied for its effect upon carefully chosen color combinations and innovative techniques.France produced a number of outstanding exponents of the Art Nouveau style; among the most celebrated was Emile Galle (1846-1904). In the United States, Louis Comfort Tiffany (1843-1933) was the most noted exponent of this style, producing a great variety of glass forms and surfaces, which were widely copied in their time and are highly prized today. Tiffany was a brilliant designer, successfully combining ancient Egyptian, Japanese, and Persian motifs. The Art Nouveau style was a major force in the decorative arts from 1895 until 1915, although its influence continued throughout the mid-1920's. It was eventually to be overtaken by a new school of thought known as Functionalism that hadbeen present since the turn of the century. At first restricted to a small avant-garde group of architects and designers, Functionalism emerged as the dominant influence upon designers after the First World War. The basic tenet of the movement — that function should determine form — was not a new concept. Soon a distinct aesthetic code evolved:form should be simple, surfaces plain, and any ornament should be based on geometric relationships. This new design concept, coupled with the sharp postwar reactions to the styles and conventions of the preceding decades, created an entirely new public taste which caused Art Nouveau types of glass to fall out of favor. The new taste demanded dramatic effects of contrast, stark outline and complex textural surfaces.1. What does paragraph 1 mainly discuss?(A) Design elements in the Art Nouveau style(B) The popularity of the Art Nouveau style(C) Production techniques for art glass(D) Color combinations typical of the Art Nouveau style2. Paragraph 1 mentions that Art Nouveau glass was sometimes similar to which aspect of ancient buried glass?(A) The distortion of the glass(B) The appearance of the glass surface(C) The shapes of the glass objects(D) The size of the glass objects4. What is the main purpose of paragraph 2?(A) to compare different Art Nouveau styles(B) to give examples of famous Art Nouveau artists(C) to explain why Art Nouveau glass was so popular in the United States(D) to show the impact Art Nouveau had on other cultures around the world5. The word "prized" in line 16 is closest in meaning to(A) valued(B) universal(C) uncommon(D) preserved6. The word "overtaken" in line 20 is closest in meaning to(A) surpassed 超过,超出(B) inclined(C) expressed(D) applied7.
In my opinion, a government leader had better have the legal background, because in this way we can be offered a well-rounded environment to live in. For example, nowadays most of the cities are suffering from the traffic problems, since there are so many private cars. The waste gas emitted by the cars also has worsened the air pollution. However, the individual citizens could do almost nothing to help reverse this situation because just choosing to take the public transportation could do just a little help. In this case, a government leader with legal background will be in a better position to protect the environment, for thegovernment can put laws into effect to increase tax on private cars, or to put traffic restrictions based on even- and odd- numbered license plates. These kinds of measures made by the government leader would be the most helpful one to help offer a harmonious environment to the citizens. There is a policy that parents should not be allowed to see children's grades without their permission.
Indeed, at the height of Athenian democracy there was no government separate from its citizenry.Where would the sentence best fit? Click on square to add the sentence to the passage.【待插入段落】During the fifth century B. C. the council of 500 was extremely influential in shaping policy. In the next century, however, it was the mature assembly that took on decision-making responsibility. By any measure other than that of the aristocrats, who had been upstaged by the supposedly inferior "people," the Athenian democracy was a stunning success. Never before, or since, have so many people been involved in the serious business of self-governance. It was precisely this opportunity to participate in public life that provided a stimulus for the brilliant unfolding of classical Greek culture.1. 然后我们来看一下待插入的句子:Indeed表示强调,翻译成“确实”;at the height of…在...的巅峰;还有一个there was no…
Transportation and the Roman Empire重复2016.07.02Formation of Earth’s Atmosphere and Oceans重复2016.02.27Tree Rings重复2015.10.25和2015.12.20Characteristics of Tropical Rain Forests重复2016.07.16和2016.11.19如何判断四篇阅读当中哪篇是加试?

In these days, with some improper human activities such as hunting rareanimals and the extinction of some endangered animals, there has been an intensedebate about whether too many resources, including time and money, are allocatedto preserve wild animals.Proponents of this opinion may argue that human beings could have done moreto safeguard wild animals from being extinct, so that less animals would havedied out or diminished. After all, animals, as a key component of the whole foodchain, exert a profound impact on the sustainability of an ecosystem. And everyexistent animal plays a crucial part in the nature balance. For example, thedecrease of owls will lead to the multiplication of voles which are big eatersof crops. If the importance of protecting wildlife is underestimated, we humanbeings would be affected adversely in the end. However, considering the allocation of the taxes levied from citizens, opponents believe that the government has more issues related to human ratherthan animals to give priority to, among which are education and technology, andthere is no doubt that these two aspects are essential for human further development economically and environmentally; as a result the two industriesgive an impetus to the economic development of society, which will be conduciveto the protection of wildlife in turn. As long as the government has the abilityto construct more conservations for diverse animals, and the awareness of valuing animals is cultivated among all the residents, the better living environment can be guaranteed for all the wildlife. From my perspective, considerable significance should be attached to thepreservation of wildlife, but in the meantime, other crucial projects should notbe ignored, especially education and technology.(286 words)。

Describe a kind of food people eat during a special eventYou should say:What it isWhat event people usually eat itHow it is cooked/madeExplain why it is for the special event思路分析1. 此题为17年part 2 老题describe a kind of foreign food you had before的一个变化题型,依旧是雅思口语考题中比较高频而常见的食物话题。
(Zongzi, a pyramid-shaped dumpling made of glutinous rice ),生日蛋糕或是圣诞节的Mulled Wine, Turkey, gingerbread。

分论点三:阅读 gluten导致 blood-sugar,这个东西和memory skill 有关3-听力部分总论点:gluten 有助于身体健康分论点一:虽然gluten is new,但是digestive system 可以释放bacteria 有益细菌,可以经过一段时间适应食物,包括gluten,让gluten 快速适应分论点二:实验中,用的是两种bread,gluten不是唯一的因素,里面还有carbohydrate,所以也可能是carbohydrate cause stomach pain and fatigue,所以可能是A而不是gluten导致胃病。
分论点三:造成risk of memory 是因为levels of blood 的升高,而gluten 只会造成 levels of blood temporary 升高,然后回到averagelevel ,那些好几年都是high level of blood 才会导致memory risk,所以他们是没有关系的而且不同gluten,一个人的blood sugar 以及一些问题都不会改善,所以gluten 和以上那些疾病是没有关系的。
The article discusses that the gluten cannot be conducive to a healthier diet, while the lecture disputes this idea with the following proofs.First, the writer in the reading passage holds that digestive system cannot adapt the gluten. However, the professor disagrees with it, because although the gluten is new, the probiotics released by the digestive system can help the system to adapt the new foods, including the gluten. In addition, in the material, the writer believes that stomach pain and fatigue. While in the lecture, the speaker deems that the idea in the passage does not hold the water. In the experiment, there are two kinds of bread, including both gluten and carbohydrate. As a result, it is the carbohydrate that causes stomach pain and fatigue rather than the gluten. Finally, it is depicted in the material that the gluten leads to the blood sugar, which is related with memory skill. On the contrary, the professor holds that this is not true. Levels of blood increasing may cause the risk of memory. However, the gluten can only result in the rise of levels of blood, leading to the memory risk. As a consequence, they have nothing to do with each other, and the gluten is not associated with the diseases above. Some first year college students do not have good study habits. Some people believe that colleges should provide all of the first year students with a required course to develop their good study habits. Other people believe that providing this kind of course is unnecessary. What is your opinion and why?

The economic depression in the late-nineteenth-century United States contributed significantly to a growing movement in literature toward realism and naturalism. After the 1870's, a number of important authors began to reject the romanticism that had prevailed immediately following the Civil War of 1861-1865 and turned instead to realism. Determined to portray life as it was, with fidelity to real life and accurate representation without idealization, they studied local dialects, wrote stories which focused on life in specific regions of the country, and emphasized the "true" relationships between people. In doing so, they reflected broader trends in the society, such as industrialization, evolutionary theory which emphasized the effect of the environment on humans, and the influence of science.Realists such as Joel Chandler Harris and Ellen Glasgow depicted life in the South, Hamlin Garland described life on the Great Plains, and Sarah Orne Jewett wrote about everyday life in rural New England. Another realist, Bret Harte, achieved fame with stories that portrayed local life in the California mining camps.Samuel Clemens, who adopted the pen name Mark Twain, became the country's most outstanding realist author, observing life around him with a humorous and skeptical eye. In his stories and novels, Twain drew on his own experiences and used dialect and common speech instead ofliterary language, touching off a major change in American prose style.Other writers became impatient even with realism. Pushing evolutionary theory to its limits, they wrote of a world in which a cruel and merciless environment determined human fate. These writers, called naturalists, often focused on economic hardship, studying people struggling with poverty, and other aspects of urban and industrial life. Naturalists brought to their writing a passion for direct and honest experience.Theodore Dreiser, the foremost naturalist writer, in novels such as Sister Carrie, grimly portrayed a dark world in which human beings were tossed about by forces beyond their understanding or control. Dreiser thought that writers should tell the truth about human affairs, not fabricate romance, and Sister Carrie, he said, was "not intended as a piece of literary craftsmanship, but was a picture of conditions."1. Which aspect of late-nineteenth-century United States literature does the passage mainly discuss?(A) The influence of science on literature(B) The importance of dialects for realist writers(C) The emergence of realism and naturalism(D) The effects of industrialization on romanticism2. The word "prevailed" in line 4 is closest in meaning to(A) dominated。

Titan
