描写人物的英语作文Describing People

描写人物的英语作文Describing PeoplePerhaps the most vital person I have ever met is an Italian professor of philosophy who teaches at the University of Pisa.Although I last met this man eight years ago, I have not forgotten his special qualities.First of all,I was impressed by his devotion to teaching. Because his lectures were always well-prepared and clearly delivered, students swarmed into his classroom. His followers appreciated the fact that he believed in what he taught and that he was intellectually stimulating.Furthermore,he could be counted on to explain his ideas in an imaginative way, introducing such aids to understanding as paintings, recordings, pieces of sculpture, and guest lecturers. Once he even sang a song in class to illustrate a point. Second, I admired the fact that he would confer with students outside of the classroom or talk with them on the telephone. Drinking coffee in the snack bar, he would easily make friends with students. Sometimes he would challenge a student to a game of chess. At other times, he would join groups to discuss subjects ranging from astronomy to scuba diving. Many young people visited him in his office for academic advice; others came to his home for social evenings. Finally,I was attracted by his lively wit. He believed that no class hour is a success unless the students and the professor share several chuckles and at least one loud laugh.Through his sense of humor,he made learning more enjoyable and more lasting. If it is true that life makes a wise man smile and a foolish man cry, then my friend is truly a wise man. Probably the best example of his wit is this bit of wisdom with which he once ended a lecture:"It is as dangerous for man to model himself upon his invention, the machine,as it would be for God to model Himself upon His invention."

When it comes to describing a person, there are many different aspects that one can focus on. It could be their physical appearance, their personality traits, their accomplishments, or even their quirks and habits. In this essay, I will be describing a person who has had a significant impact on my life: my grandmother. My grandmother, who I affectionately call Nana, is a petite woman with short, curly gray hair and a warm smile. Despite her small stature, she exudes a sense of strength and resilience that is truly inspiring. She grew up during the Great Depression and faced many hardships throughout her life, but she never let those challenges defeat her. Instead, she learned to adapt and persevere, and those qualities have served her well throughout her 90 years of life. One of the things I admire most about my grandmother is her unwavering kindness and generosity. She has always been quick to offer a helping hand or a listening ear, and she never judges others for their mistakes or shortcomings. She is the epitome of unconditional love, and I feel incredibly lucky to have her in my life.Another trait that sets my grandmother apart is her intelligence and curiosity. Despite only having a high school education, she is one of the most well-read and informed people I know. She is always eager to learn new things and explore different perspectives, and she has a wealth of knowledge on a wide range of topics. Whenever I have a question or need advice, I know that I can turn to her for thoughtful and insightful guidance.Of course, my grandmother is not without her quirks and idiosyncrasies. She has a sweet tooth that knows no bounds, and she loves nothing more than a good piece of chocolate or a warm slice of apple pie. She is also a bit of a neat freak, and she takes great pride in keeping her home immaculate and tidy. And while she can be a bit stubborn attimes, it is always in service of her deeply held values and principles. In conclusion, my grandmother is an incredible person who has had a profound impact on my life. Her kindness, intelligence, and resilience are qualities that I strive to emulate, and I am grateful for every moment I get to spend with her. She is a true inspiration, and I hope to be able to carry on her legacy for many years to come.。

Describing people
When describing people your composition needs to be well organised. The composition should have an introductory paragraph where you briefly set the scene ( name, time / place where you met / saw him or her…) , a main body consisting of two or more paragraphs describing physical appearance, personality characteristics and hobbies / interests /everyday activities and a final paragraph which summarizes your feelings about the person described.
Physical appearance
When describing physical appearance you should give details in the following order: ▪height / build / age
▪facial features
▪hair
▪clothes
one should move from the most general adjectives to the most specific ones.
E.g. Angelina Jolie is a tall slim woman. She has got a square face, blue eyes and an upturned nose. She wears her long black hair loose. In every day life she is often casually dressed in a blouse or T-shirt and jeans.
Height / build /age:
▪height (short, medium height ,tall, small)
▪build ( thin, slim, well-built (muscular), plump, overweight
▪age (young eg. child, teenager, middle-aged, old)
Face:
▪the shape of the face (round, oblong, square…)
▪eyes (slanting, almond-shaped)
▪nose (crooked, upturned, curved)
▪lips (thin, full)
▪complexion: tanned ,pale, wrinkled, freckled,
▪special features: beard, moustache
Hair:
▪dimension - aspect - colour (short ,curly, brown, straight, long, blond)
▪haircut/style (parting ,in a ponytail, spikey, bobbed)
Clothes &special features:
▪style (elegant, formal, casual)
▪special features (tattoos, moles, physical disabilities)
Character (personality)
When describing character and behaviour, support your description with examples: E.g. Tom is very reserved. He never talks about his feelings.
If you want to describe negative qualities is advisable to use mild language:
e.g. “He can be aggressive at times.”is better than saying “He is aggressive”
Example 1
I'm just a very common, simple and average man - 5'6" with short black hair and blue eyes. I'm fairly creative and see the good in life and in people. I'm a very positive person with a good outlook on life. I'm patient, more than you would expect in a person. My interests are in experiencing life, in going places and meeting people. I'm mechanically inclind in a way that many are not. I'm a problem solver, not a creator of problems. I believe firmly in the concept of "live and let live". I'm kind and respectful and always very compassionate. I think that, most importantly, I'm humble. I don't look down on others. I'm everyone's equal.
Example 2
I'm a 25-year-old guy with dark blond hair and blue eyes. I haven't done much as far as education goes. My attention to detail skill is so good I notice the most pointless things, such as when new kids playground equipment was added to the park by my house. Growing up, I wondered about freeways by my home, instead of "why is the sky blue?", or something like that.
I frequently get dreams about roads and faceless people. I have personal training sessions 3 times a week, one before a weekly one-on-one pilates session. I work at Wal-Mart as a sales associate. Other than keeping fit, my main hobbies are attending Minnesota Timberwolves games, University of Minnesota women's basketball games, bowling in a league from September to April, and playing fantasy baseball, basketball, football and golf. I golf and snowboard when in season, and when I travel, I buy a coffee mug to remember my visit.
Example 3
31 years old, 5'11" 175lbs, short brown hair, hazel eyes, glasses, relatively thin build. Born and raised in Northern, NY, near the Canadian border, about an hour south of Montreal, CA. Bachelors degree in psychology, working towards a masters degree in counseling. Work in student financial services at a college. I'm into reading, watching sports, walking, running, BBQ, cooking, all sorts of things.
