《最后一周》(one week):摩托旅行的意义

78MOTORCYCLE INFORMATIONMM O T O R C Y C L E I M A G E R Y影像摩托如果你被告知得了癌症,而且是晚期,你该怎么办?

Week 1Part I Gap-fillingMany parents depend on punishment as a way of disciplining their children or punishing them for misbehavior. Punishment can take many 1 . Some parents physically punish their children in different ways. Other parents 2 punish their children, for example,by threatening or shouting at them.Still others use various punishments, such as making their children sit in a corner.Research 3 shows that punishing children may work in the short run,but it does not work in the long run.In the short run,it stops 4 behavior.Children will generally stop using bad words, for example,if they are scolded seriously, punished with a slap on the behind,or not given the dessert. The dramatic 5 that often follows punishment can immediately reinforce an adult.More often than not, this success can tempt a parent to use the punishment 6 .The tricky condition comes later, however, often well after the punishing 7 is over. In the 1ong run, punishment is likely to cause several problems. One is that to be effective, punishment must be rather 8 . A mother’s shaking her head in mild disapproval is 9 to stop children from fighting; for some, only loud words and physical punishment will work. While any of these statements might be true, they are practically impossible to prove scientifically. Still, I was struck by a report which concluded that today’s children are significantly more anxious than children in the 1950s. In fact, the analysis showed, normal children ages 9 to 17 exhibit a higher level of anxiety today than children who were treated for mental illness 50 years ago.Why are America’s kids so stressed? The report cites two main causes: increasing physical isolation—brought on by high divorce rates and less involvement in community, among other things—and a growing perception that the world is a more dangerous place.Given that we can’t turn the clock back, adults can still do plenty to help the next generation cope.At the top of the list is nurturing (培育) a better appreciation of the limits of individualism. No child is an island. Strengthening social ties helps build communities and protect individuals against stress. To help kids build stronger connections with others, you can pull the plug on TVs and computers. Y our family will thank you later. They will have more time for face-to-face relationships, and they will get more sleep.Limit the amount of virtual (虚拟的) violence your children are exposed to. It’s not just video games an d movies; children see a lot of murder and crime on the local news.Keep your expectations for your children reasonable. Many highly successful people never attended Harvard or Yale.Make exercise part of your daily routine. It will help you cope with your own anxieties and provide a good model for your kids. Sometimes anxiety is unavoidable. But it doesn’t have to ruin your life.1. The author thinks that the conclusions of any research about people’s state of mind are ________.A) surprising B) confusing C) illogical D) questionable2. What does the author mean when he says, “we can’t turn the clock back” (Line 1, Para. 3)?A) It’s impossible to slow down the pace of change.C) Lessons learned from the past should not be forgotten.B) The social reality children are facing cannot be changed. D) It’s impossible to forget the past.3. According to an analysis, compared with normal children today, children treated as mentally ill 50 years ago ____.A) were less isolated physically C) probably suffered less from anxietyB) were probably less self-centered D) were considered less individualistic4. The first and most important thing parents should do to help their children is ________.A) to provide them with a safer environment C) to get them more involved sociallyB) to lower their expectations for them D) to set a good model for them to follow5. What conclusion can be drawn from the passage?A) Anxiety, though unavoidable, can be coped with.B) Children’s anxiety has been enormously exaggerated.C) Children’s anxiety can be eliminated with more parental care.D) Anxiety, if properly controlled, may help children become mature.Passage TwoIt is easier to negotiate initial salary requirement because once you are inside, the organizational constraints (约束) influence wage increases. One thing, however, is certain: your chances of getting the raise you feel you deserve are less if you don’t at least ask for it. Men tend to ask for more, and they get more, and this holds true w ith other resources, not just pay increases. Consider Beth’s story:I did not get what I wanted when I did not ask for it. We had cubicle (小隔间) offices and window offices. I sat in the cubicles with several male colleagues. One by one they were moved into window offices, while I remained in the cubicles, several males who were hired after me also went to offices. One in particular told me he was next in line for an office and that it had been part of his negotiations for the job. I guess they thought me content to stay in the cubicles since I did not voice my opinion either way.It would be nice if we all received automatic pay increases equal to our merit, but “nice” isn’t a quality attributed to most organizations. If you feel you deserve a significant rai se in pay, you’ll probably have to ask for it.Performance is your best bargaining chip (筹码) when you are seeking a raise. You must be able to demonstrate that you deserve a raise. Timing is also a good bargaining chip. If you can give your boss something he or she needs (a new client or a sizable contract, for example) just before merit pay decisions are being made, you are more likely to get the raise you want.Use information as a bargaining chip too. Find out what you are worth on the open market. What will someone else pay for your services?Go into the negotiations prepared to place your chips on the table at the appropriate time and prepared to use communication style to guide the direction of the interaction.6. According to the passage, before taking a job, a person should ________.A) demonstrate his capability C) ask for as much money as he canB) give his boss a good impression D) ask for the salary he hopes to get7. What can be inferred from Beth’s story?A) Prejudice against women still exists in some organizations.B) If people want what they deserve, they have to ask for it.C) People should not be content with what they have got.D) People should be careful when negotiating for a job.8. We can learn from the passage that ________.A) unfairness exists in salary increases C) one should avoid overstating one’s pe rformanceB) most people are overworked and underpaid D) most organizations give their staff automatic pay raises9. To get a pay raise, a person should ________.A) advertise himself on the job marketB) persuade his boss to sign a long-term contractC) try to get inside information about the organizationD) do something to impress his boss just before merit pay decisions10. To be successful in negotiations, one must ________.A) meet his boss at the appropriate time C) be good at influencing the outcome of the interactionB) arrive at the negotiation table punctually D) be familiar with what the boss likes and dislikesClozeWho won the World Cup 1994 football game? What happened at the United Nations? How did the critics like the new play? 67 an event take place; newspapers are on the streets 68 the details. Wherever anything happens in the world, reports are on the spot to 69 the news.Newspapers have one basic 70, to get the news as quickly as possible from its source, from those who make it to those who want to 71 it. Radio, telegraph, television, and 72 inventions brought competition for newspapers. So did the development of magazines and other means of communication. 73 , this competition merely spurred the newspapers on. They quickly made use of the newer and faster means of communication to improve the 74 and thus the efficiency of their own operations. Today more newspapers are 75 and read than ever before. 星期天做什么英语作文,不少于五句话六年级

星期天做什么英语作文,不少于五句话六年级

星期天做什么英语作文,不少于五句话六年级全文共3篇示例,供读者参考篇1What To Do On SundaysSundays are the best days of the week! They're the one day when I don't have to wake up super early for school. I can sleep in as late as I want without my mom yelling at me to get out of bed. Weekends in general are awesome, but Sundays are even better than Saturdays in my opinion. My favorite thing to do on a Sunday is absolutely nothing at all. I love just lying around in my pajamas all day long, watching TV shows and movies, playing video games, or reading comics and books. My mom is always nagging me to "be productive" and "do something constructive" instead of being a lazy bum. But I think doing nothing for a whole day is one of life's greatest pleasures that kids should indulge in while they can. When I'm an adult with a job and responsibilities, I'll have to be productive all the time. So I want to enjoy my lazy Sundays for as long as possible! That said, I do actually enjoy going out and doing stuff on Sundays sometimes too. My family and I often go out for brunch at a diner or restaurant. I love brunch food like pancakes, waffles, bacon, eggs, and hashbrowns. After eating a big tasty brunch, we'll sometimes go for a walk around the neighborhood or go to a park and throw a frisbee around. Getting some fresh air and exercise is nice after stuffing myself with delicious food.On nice sunny Sundays, we'll go on little day trips sometimes. We might drive out to the beach and spend the afternoon swimming, building sandcastles, and looking for shells and cool rocks. Or we'll go hiking on trails in the mountains or forests near our town. I find hiking really peaceful and relaxing. Being out in nature makes me feel refreshed.Other times we'll go into the city and check out a museum, go to the zoo, or see a play or musical. I actually really enjoy cultural things like that, even though some kids think they're boring. Museums have such fascinating exhibits on science, history, and art. The zoo is fun because you get to see all the cool animals. And the plays and musicals are very entertaining with the singing, dancing, and acting.Sundays are also a popular day for kids' sports leagues and activities. Some Sundays I have soccer games or practices in themorning or afternoon. Other weeks I might have a violin lesson or rehearsal for the school play. While extracurriculars aren't exactly relaxing, at least they're not as mentally draining as normal school! I'd take soccer over math class any day. Some families go to church services on Sunday mornings, but my family isn't very religious so we don't really do that. Instead, we'll often have friends or relatives over for a big Sunday dinner in the evening. My mom and aunts will spend all day cooking up a feast with all kinds of dishes like roast chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, bread rolls, salad, and pie for dessert. Those Sunday dinners are always delicious and fun when we get together with extended family. After dinner, we'll watch a movie as a family or play board games like Monopoly or Life. Sometimes my cousins sleep over and we'll have a sleepover party, staying up late watching movies, playing video games, eating junk food, and gossiping about kids at school. Sleepovers are one of the best parts of being a kid!As much as I love all the fun weekend activities, I think my favorite part of Sundays is the anticipation for the week ahead. Sunday nights, I feel a little sad that the weekend is over, but mostly I feel excitement and optimism about starting a fresh new week. Maybe this week I'll finally get up the courage to talk to mycrush. Maybe I'll ace that big test I've been studying for. Or maybe I'll try out for the school play or music club. Sundays represent endless possibilities and opportunities for fun and adventure in the coming week. I go to bed feeling recharged and ready to take on anything. So in conclusion, Sundays give me the perfect balance of activities and pure lazy relaxation. They let me recharge my batteries and have fun before another hectic school week. Whether I'm being a total sloth or going on an outing with family and friends, Sundays are simply the best! I'm going to soak up these carefree Sunday vibes for as long as I can before becoming a responsible adult. Those lazy Sunday mornings are something I'll definitely miss when I'm old and boring. For now though, let me sleep in until noon and play videogames all day in my pajamas. Is there anything better than that?篇2What to Do on SundaysSundays are the best day of the week in my opinion! It's the one day where I don't have to wake up super early for school and I can just relax and have fun. There are so many great things todo on Sundays, it's hard to pick my favorite. But I'll tell you about some of the things I love doing on that day.One of my favorite Sunday activities is sleeping in late. During the school week, my mom wakes me up at 6:30am so I can get ready and eat breakfast before the bus comes. But on Sundays, I get to sleep as late as I want! Sometimes I sleep until 10 or even 11am. It feels so good to catch up on that missed sleep. I love cuddling up under my warm covers and dozing peacefully without my annoying alarm clock buzzing at me.After finally rolling out of bed, I head to the kitchen for a big breakfast. Maybe pancakes or waffles with lots of syrup and whipped cream. Or if I'm feeling like something savory, cheesy scrambled eggs, hash browns, and bacon. My mom is an amazing cook so Sunday breakfasts are always delicious. I don't have to rush through it either – I can take my time and savor every bite. Sundays are for relaxing and not worrying about being on a schedule.Once I've fueled up with a tasty breakfast, it's time to pick my Sunday activity. If the weather is nice, I love going on a hike with my dad at the trails near our house. We pack a picnic lunch and lots of water and snacks. Then we spend a few hours walking through the woods, looking for cool plants and animals, andstopping at pretty spots to relax. By the time we get back home, I've worked up an appetite for whatever yummy dinner my mom has cooked up.If it's raining or cold outside, I prefer indoor activities. One of my favorites is having friends over for a movie marathon and snacks. We make a mountain of popcorn and campout on the basement floor with sleeping bags and pillows. Then we spend pretty much the whole day watching our favorite moviesback-to-back. The last time we did this, we watched all three Lord of the Rings movies since they're so long. It was an epic twelve hour marathon篇3What to Do on SundaysSunday is the best day of the week in my opinion! It's the one day where I don't have to go to school or do any homework.I can wake up late, eat a big breakfast, and then decide how to spend the rest of my day however I want. There are so many fun possibilities for things to do on Sundays! One of my favorite Sunday activities is playing outside with my friends. We'll often organize a game of soccer, basketball or even just have a game of catch or frisbee at the park nearby.Getting some exercise and fresh air is a great way to start the day. And when we get tired of running around, we'll grab a snack and just hang out, talking and laughing about stupid jokes and whatever is on our minds. Those hangout sessions are where some of the silliest, most fun moments happen. If the weather isn't good for playing outside, my friends and I will make plans to go to the movies instead. There's usually at least one new blockbuster movie out that we're all excited to see. We'll get lots of snacks like popcorn, candy and soda, and make comments about the previews before the movie starts. Then once the movie begins, we're all locked in, mesmerized by the big screen. Afterwards, we analyze and debate all the biggest scenes and talk about our favorite parts. Even a mediocre movie can be entertaining when you watch it with your buddies. When I'm not hanging out with friends, I also enjoy spending Sundays playing video games for hours on end. I'll wake up early, pour myself a big bowl of cereal, and park myself on the couch immersed in whatever game I'm currently obsessed with. Mass multiplayer online games are always fun since you can meet up with friends online and go on adventures together. Or I'll dive into the latest story-based adventure and get transported to amazing fictional worlds. Video games allow me to rest my brainfrom the stresses of school while still being stimulated and active.Of course, Sunday wouldn't be complete without making time for relaxation too. I make sure to take a break in the afternoon and read, work on my latest Lego project, or practice my instrument. Having some solo quiet time helps recharge my social battery for the busy school week ahead. And I always make it a point to spend some quality time with my family, whether that's going out for a meal together, watching a movie, or just hanging out and talking in the living room.Sundays are the best because I have the freedom to choose how I want to spend my time. I can be spontaneous, follow my interests, try new things, and not have any schedule or responsibilities holding me back. Whether I'm playing outdoors, watching movies, gaming, reading, building, or just relaxing, it's all fun and games on this great day off. I try to pack as many of my favorite activities as I can into each Sunday to make the most of that free time before another school week begins. Those days of rest and recreation help keep me happy, healthy and ready to tackle whatever challenges await me.。

Course of Interpreting betweenChinese and EnglishWeek One: Course Description1.Interpreting as a modern professionInterpreting, as an internationally recognized profession, began to take shape only around the turn of the twentieth century. We live in an age of international communication. International contacts are on the increase, and as a result more people than ever, from different backgrounds and cultures and who speak different languages, find themselves coming together to discuss issues of all kinds-economic, political, legal, cultural, technical. If they are to communicate effectively, they must feel able to express themselves in complete confidence that they will be understood by others. This is where interpreters have an invaluable role to play, facilitating communication between people who speak a different language and serving a bridge between different cultures.2. Types of interpretingTo interpret a speech is not to translate it word for word. To interpret a speech from its source language is to transfer its semantic, connotative and aesthetic content into another language, using the lexical, syntactic and stylistic resources of the second, or “target” language for that purpose. To interpret is first and foremost to understand the intended message perfectly. It can then be “detached” from the words used to convey it in the original and reconstituted, in all its subtlety, in words of the target language. There are two modes of interpreting:-Consecutive interpretationThe interpreter sits at the conference table with the delegates, listening to whomever speaking in the source language and making noted as the speech processes. When the speaker has finished, the interpreter reproduces (consecutively) the message in the target language, in its entirety and as though she/he were making the original speech.-Simultaneous interpretationThe interpreter sits in a booth, in front of a microphone, listens through headphones to the incoming message in the source language and communicates it over the microphone to whomever listening in the target language. In other words, SI is an intensive information processing task and in a six-hour working day the interpreter will “process” the equivalent of about 65 typewritten pages. -Sight interpretation:In international conferences, the interpreter is often called upon to interpret simultaneously written speeches that have been delivered to him in advance. In professional terms this is called sight interpreting. In scientific and technical meetings and increasingly in “diplomatic interpreting”, the interpreter has to cope with papers, statements, and declarations, which, for a variety of reasons, have been carefully prepared in writing.3.Basic requirements for interpreters:In order to achieve successful interpreting, interpreters must possess an extraordinary array of qualifications. A good interpreter is required to have a high level of linguistic competence, wide general knowledge, sufficient subject-specific knowledge, and the necessary cross-cultural awareness as well as a good mastery of interpreting skills, such as note-taking techniques, the abilityto abstract and paraphrase, the art of public speaking a good memory. An interpreter has to deal with various kinds of people on different occasions. He may interpret for an academic visitor, a top-ranking official or a hard-working engineer, he may speak in front of a large audience or sit at the negotiation table with experts on both sides. Moreover, he may sometimes face unfair criticism from the speaker or recievers or become a scapegoat. Therefore, interpreters must possess special qualifications; they must be quick-witted, calm and resourceful. In actual interpreting, the process of “listening-comprehension-reconstruction”occurs almost simultaneously, and the interpreter presents his or her rendering almost immediately after the speaker has finished; so quick-wittedness is an essential talent for interpreters. Professionals generally agrees that one ofthe major enemies of the conference interpreter is panic and stage-fright. Calmness is vital to interpreters. The interpreter not only has to present a decent rendering, but also has to keep the situation under control. If the interpreter “loses the thread”or loses quite a few words of what the original speaker is saying, he should be flexible enough to limit the loss and find his feet again quickly. If the speaker and the reciever have communication difficulties not because of the message but because of a cultural difference, the interpreter should initiate an explanation to fill the gap.1)Linguistic competence andphonetic competence2)Acute hearing3)Exceptionally largevocabulary4)Encyclopedic knowledgeand subject knwoledge5)Cross-cultural awareness6)Mastery of interpretingskills and technique4.Purpose of the CourseFinal Goal: to share practical advice on professional practice in interpreting, with the aim of contributing to high standards of professionalism and quality interpretation, and thereby to the dignity and integrity of the profession;Immediate Objectives: to prepare(i) complete mastery of the target language;(ii) sound general knowledge and understanding of current affairs;(iii) the ability to analyse and construe facts;(iv) speed of reaction and ability to adapt without delay to speakers, situations and subjects;(v) powers of concentration;(vi)above average physical and nervous staying-power;5 Class Requirement:(i) Full attendance is expected;(ii) Active participation in both classroom discussions and individual conferences is expected;(iii) Plagiarism is strictly prohibited; (iv) Seriousness and carefulness are necessary (since writing is not a matter of intelligence);6 Form of Instruction:(i) Instructions on the mechanics of interpreting;(ii) Comments and classroom discussions on exercises;(iii) Individual conferences (students presentation);7 Activity:(i) Sentence dictation;(ii) Sentence Retelling(iii) Paragraph summarizing(iv) Consecutive interpreting;(v) Spontaneous interpreting8 Teaching Arrangemen t: Theoretically, the course is conducted on a weekly basis and each unit in four periods.
