【2015高考复习】阅读理解
Wisdom teeth are normally the last teeth to appear. This usually happens when people are in their late teen years or early twenties,in other words, when they are older and wiser.
Wisdom teeth can grow into place normally and never cause a problem. But often there is not enough room for them in the mouth;they might crowd other teeth.Sometimes they even push sideways through the gums (齿龈).An impacted wisdom tooth is one that fails to completely rise through the gums.Wisdom teeth that only partly break through can leave space for bacteria to enter around the teeth.Infection (感染) is a risk in these cases.
Wisdom teeth that are not well lined and become impacted are often removed. The American Dental Association says removal is generally advised when wisdom teeth only partly break through the gums.Removal is also advised if there is a chance that wisdom teeth ate poorly lined. The best time to remove is before the teeth cause any problems or pain.Young adults are the best candidates for wisdom teeth removal.
But why do we have wisdom teeth if we often need to get them removed? One theory has to do with our diets.Scientists say the diet of ancient humans probably required more chewing teeth.Life was probably a little rougher on the teeth back then, too. So it was good to have extras.

Experts believe that storms and severe weather in North America and Asia
have disrupted bird flight paths across the world and swept huge numbers of bird species towards the British Isles.
Birds flying to the other side of the Atlantic or to the Pacific to lay their eggs have been trapped in Britain and Ireland, adding their numbers to native species, and causing great excitement in the bird-watching community.
Local birdwatchers have already observed a total of 442 species in the British Isles this year. The highest number ever seen in one year is 445, in 2008.
“We only need four more to break our record,” said Lee Evans, who runs the British Birding Association. “With three months to go I’m sure we’ll do it.”
Last month an extremely rare Siberian Rubythroat bird was seen in Scotland, sending hundreds of birdwatchers north in the hope of catching a glimpse of this colourful Asian beauty. Another very uncommon bird, the bufflehead duck was cited in Cornwell and caused similar excitement. “I couldn’t believe it,” said Evans. “The poor thing was completely knackered. It must have been blown to England by the storms while trying to fly from Canada to the southern United States for the winter. That’s 3000 miles!”
Evans said that global warming over the past decade was playing a key role in transforming bird movements across the world. In addition, melting
Arctic sea ice may also be opening up bird flight paths over the North Pole, making it easier for birds from the Pacific — such as the slaty-backed gull and tufted puffin, both of which appeared in London earlier this year — to reach Britain.
Bird-watching is becoming an increasingly popular hobby among all age groups, added Evans. “A fifth of our members are under 18. This is a round-the-year hobby that you can enjoy from the kitchen window or from a car. More and more people are bird-watching, and as a result more and more unexpected species are being spotted in the British Isles.”
1. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The results of global warming.
B. Changes in the British bird population.
C. Increasing environmental pollution.
D. Worsening British weather.
2. The underlined word “knackered” is closest in meaning to __________.
A. bored
B. knocked
C. spotted
D. tired
3. How many more bird species are needed to equal the British
bird-watching record?
A. 3.
B. 4.
C. 442.
D. 445.
4. According to the passage, which of the following birds comes from Asia?
A. Slaty-backed gull.
B. Bufflehead.
C. Rubythroat.
D. Tufted puffin.
5. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a possible reason for seeing more bird species in Britain?
A. An increase in the number of birdwatchers.
B. A growth in the number of native species.
C. Storms due to global warming.
D. The melting Arctic ice cap.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

From now on, never spend your precious time thinking of reasons for your failures and shortcomings. Instead, realize that the seeds of success were planted within you when you were born. Only you have the power to make those seeds grow.
The seeds, and the power to grow them, are contained in the most awesome machine ever created:the human mind. Success is a choice and not a chance. You were born a winner. You were born rich. You can be a success if only you make the right choice.
You cannot be successful without first developing your self-esteem. Your level of self-esteem is always based on the degree of control that you are able to exercise over yourself, and thus over your life. People with low self-esteem are people who do not believe that they have any power, or responsibility for their lives. They are the perennial(长期的) victims and martyrs(殉道者). They
are leaves tossed(摇摆) by the winds of chance blown about with any sudden change in the weather.
You can exercise control over your life only to the degree that you believe that you are responsible for everything that happens in your life. Failures think that everything happens by accident and chance. Successful people realize that they are responsible.
Everything happens as a result of something. If we can identify the cause, we can control the effect. We are responsible for what we choose to think and believe. One generally rises to the level that one expects. We are responsible for setting our expectations. Our success is dependent upon our level of confidence.
If you associate with positive-thinking people, you are definitely going to achieve success. On the contrary, the opposite happens. We are responsible for finding, planting, and nurturing the seeds that contain future victory, born from setbacks.
In short, in all areas of your life, whether they be financial, physical, emotional, or spiritual, you are responsible. Once you recognize this, accept it, and firmly believe it, you are on the road to success.

The Erie Canal was the first important national waterway built in the US. It crossed New York from Buffalo on Lake Erie Troy to Albany on the Hudson River. It joined the Great Lakes with the Atlantic Ocean. The canal served as a route over which industrial goods could flow into the west, and materials could pour into the east. The Erie Canal helped New York develop into the nation’s largest city.
The building of the canal was paid for entirely by the state of New York. It cost $ 7,143,789, but it soon gained its price many times over. Between 1825, when the canal was opened, and 1882, when toll charges(过运河费) were stopped, the state collected $121,461,891.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

My son David, who was 3.5 years old, taught me a beautiful lesson today. After we finished playing with the beads (珠子) , David slowly picked up each bead, looking at it as if it were made of chocolate and then put it into the box they were stored in. With over a hundred beads to go, I was getting impatient. "Why could he not pick up 10 in one go and put them in? My morning was going to be ruined today!"
But then it hit me like a brick. I noticed that he did this with as much interest as he had while we were playing. The boy was enjoying the whole process. For him the fun was in the game itself as well as in the process of properly packing up and cleaning up. It was not just about his turn or the fun part. Every bit was as fun as the other.
I thought of myself as a kid when we would go out to play cricket (板球). If I was not batting or bowling (击球或掷球), I was unhappy as I impatiently waited for my turn to do so. As a result, I was unhappy while waiting for my turn and only happy for the few moments I either batted or bowled. Only the process of doing something I combined with happiness made me cheerful. The rest of the time I was waiting for my rum in the future or recalling great bowling from the past.
Looking at how peacefully my son was putting beads into the box taught me that the process is the goal. The joy of journey is not in getting there but in every step of it.
1. Why was the father getting upset?
A. He wasn't interested in the game.
B. His son didn't do it as he was told to.
C. It'd take long to put away the beads.
D. David put away the beads casually.
2. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. I was hit by David with a brick.
B. I felt very annoyed at what David did.
C. I was at a loss what to do with David.
D. I suddenly understood David's behavior.
3. We can learn from the text that the author _____.
A. felt satisfied with his teammates
B. happily watched his teammates play
C. was eager to join in the game
D. thought it a pleasure to win a match
4. What did the author learn from this experience?
A. Happiness resulted from doing something pleasant.
B. The process was more important than the result.
C. It was important for children to develop good habits.
D. What children thought was different from that of adults.

Spring peepers are found in wooded areas and grassy lowlands near pools in the central and eastern parts of Canada and the United States. These loud animals are rarely seen, but as temperatures begin to rise in March and April, the males certainly are heard. Their peep...peep... peep creates an other-worldly whistling sound that, to many, is the first sign of spring, compared with that of some birds.
Spring peepers are brown in color with dark lines that form an X on their backs. They grow to about 1.5 inches (3.8 centimeters) in length, and
have large special toes for climbing. These creatures are active at night, coming out to feed on ants, beetles, flies, and spiders.
When the warmer weather arrives, male frogs attempt to attract a mate with a spring song. The frogs normally perform in singing. The one who starts each round usually has the deepest voice. The "vocal sacs" under their mouths allow the frogs to "sing". They fill their vocal sacs with air until they look like a balloon, and then they let out a "peep" as they release the air. They "peep" about once every second. These sounds can often be heard as far as a half-mile away
After a female and male peeper mate, the female lays her eggs in water and spends the remainder of the year in the forest. During the winter, they sleep under logs or behind loose bark on trees. The music dies down during the cold months, but the sounds of peepers will soon be heard again, sounding the coming of spring.
5. The text is written mainly to _____.
A. tell people what spring peepers look like
B. let people know more about spring peepers
C. explain why spring peepers sing
D. show environmental harmony in nature
6. What can we know about the spring peepers from the text?
A. They prefer to live in the dry areas in North America.
B. They are the first animals to make sounds in spring.
C. They can live both in water and on land.
D. They are active during the cold months of the year.
7. What does the underlined word "release" in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. turn out.
B. break out.
C. leave out.
D. let out.
8. The best title for this text might be _____•
A. The Ring of Tiny Frogs in Spring
B. The Relationship between Animals and Seasons
C. The Living Conditions of Spring Peepers
D. The Invitation from a Male Peeper
