重要句型Important Sentences structures
1. I am about one and a half metres tall.
常用"数词+feet/metres/centimetres/kilometers/+long/wide/tall/high/deep"表示事物的长宽高深。
e.g. The well is about three and a half metres deep. 井有3.5米深。
We walk along a street fifty feet wide. 我们沿着一条50英尺宽的街道走着。

In 1826, A Frenchman named Niepce needed pictures fr his business. But he was not a good artist. So he invented a very simple camera. He put it in a window of his house and took a picture of his garden . That was the first photo.
The next important date in the history of photography was in 1837. That year, Daguerre, another Frenchman,took a picture of his reading room. He used a new kind of camera in a different way. In his picture you could see everything very clearly, even the smallest thing. This kind of photo was called a Daguerreotype.
In about 1840, photography was developed. Then photographers could take pictures of people and moving things. That was not simple. The photographs had to carry a lot of films and other machines . But this did not stop them. For example,some in the United States worked so hard. Mathew Brady was a famous American photographer. He took many pictures of great people. The pictures were unusual because they were very lifelike.(栩栩如生)
Photography also became one kind of art by the end of the 19th century. Some photos were not just copies of the real world. They showed their feelings,like other kinds of art.

These sayings come from students studying in "adventure classrooms". Now let's look at some of the "adventure classrooms".
The Australian short programme
This three-week course begins with several days at a university in Brisbane or Cairns. Students then spend the next two weeks on a study tour of Queensland, which is famous ofr its sunny beaches and rain forests.
Activities include hiking, bird watching ,boating, and taking trips to the Great Barrier Reef. Six semester credits(学分)are given. The total cost is $2,995.
The African safari(狩猎)programme
Kenya's amazing wilderness becomes the classroom for students in the African safari programme. The five-week course us set on the beautiful campus of the United States International University in Nairobi.
The students will have class work, and they also take trips to local villages and famous places. During the safari,the students will camp outdoors for up to six days. Students will study elephants, zebras, giraffes and other animals there. Those who take the course can get many wonderful memories and can get eight college credits . The cost is $4,950.
The sea education association(SEA)
The SEA programme is chance that students can learn abroad. The course includes ocean research and personal experience in sailing.
High school students can choose from three programmes in different locations,each about three weeks long. College credits are awarded, and the cost is $3,6000.
