You must have read "The Tortoise and the Hare(《龟兔赛跑》)" when you were younger. So which animal are you? The tortoise or the hare? Do you rush around trying to do things as quickly as possible? Or do you deal your work at a slow , but steady(稳定的)pace? Whether you approach life like the tortoise or the hare can make a difference in the results you'll see.
Some will say that you should avoid being like the hare. After all. he was overconfident and finally lost the race. You mayalso have heard teachers say from time to time that "haste makes waste”. But what does that mean? Most people think it meant that the faster you do something, the more likely it is that you'll make mistakes. Many teaches wantyouto approach your schoolwork thoughtfully and carefully.
But does haste always make waste? Not necessarily ! Some people are able to work quickly while also maintaining(保持)a high level of quality in all that they do. Recent research, however, is making the idea of haste making waste seem more believable
Researchers found that the brain changes into a special mode(模式)when forced to make rapid decisions. Overall, there appears to be a trade-off between speed and correctness. As the brain makes decisions more quickly, those decisions are usually built on less information, which often leads to a greater likelihood of mistakes.
When you approach things like the tortoise. you methodically and steadily work towards your goal. You might not arrive there first, but then again you might! In any case, you're likely to make fewer mistakes and you might just enjoy the journey more than the bare.
Goals are great to work towards, but often the achievements aren't what we remember. In the end, the most meaningful and important parts of our lives are the journeys we went on , not the destination we reached. So be the hare when you have to, but always remember that the slow and steady journey is what you’ll remember and treasure the most.

Imaginary friends in childhood refer to the invisible beings that a child gives a personality to and plays with for over three months.
Crabbycrab(蟹)appeared on a holiday in Norway by running out of my four-year-old son Fisher's ear after a night of tears from an earache. Like other childhood imaginary friends, Crabby should be a sign thatFisher's mind is growing and developing positively. Indeed, research shows that imaginary friends can help develop children's social skills.
Research has shown that the positive effects of having imaginary friends as a child continue into adulthood. Adolescents who remember their imaginary playmates have been found to use more activecoping(应对)styles, such as seeking advice from loved ones rather than bottle things up inside. Even adolescents with behavioral problems who had imaginary friends as children have been found to have better coping skills through the teenage years.
Scientists thinkthis could be because these teens have been able to adjust themselves to the social world with imagination rather than choose to be involved in relationships with more difficult classmates. It could also be because the imaginary friends help to reduce these adolescents, loneliness.
These teens are also more likely to seek out social connections -they tend to turn to others for advice. Current research by Tori Watson is taking this evidence and looking at how adolescents who have imaginary friends as children deal withbullying(欺凌)at school. It is found that teens who remember their imaginary friends are better at dealing with bullying.
While we know a lot about childhood imaginary friends such as Crabby Crab and the positive effects they can
have, there is still a lot to learn about imaginary friends.

10. What will a child with imaginary friends probably do if he is bullied?
A. Escape from the bully.
B. Fight with the bully bravely.
C. Keep silent about being bullied.
D. Ask a parent or a teacher for help.
11. What is the author's attitude towards the effect of imaginary friends?
A. Concerned.

What do you think of 80s pop music? Do the names George Michael, Madonna and Michael Jackson sound familiar? Well, these are just some of the names that were well-known in the music scene of the 80s and early 90s. The 80s pop musicscene was an important step to the popularity (普及) of present-day music. A new wave in the music scene was introduced, which made such music styles as punk rock, rap music and the MTV popular. Although it was an end to the old 60s and 70s styles, it was also the beginning of something big. The popularity of music videos meant that artists now replaced their guitar-based music with visual displays. A new wave of artists came on the scene and the entire industry developed quickly.
The most famous 80s pop music video is Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Introduced in 1982, few people can forget the video not only because of its never-be-foreseen images, but also because of the popularity it received. Think of how 80s pop music changed the lives of people who grew up in the 80s. Ask a young man today to tell you the
names of the “New Kids on the Block” and he will start talking about the neighbor kids who just moved in. These are not the answers you might have heard in the 80s. Though today’s young men do not recognize how cool 80s pop music was, most people will always remember it for what it was and these are happy memories they will always love.
Some of the 80s pop music legends (传奇人物) include Madonna, U2, AeroSmith and of course the King of Pop Michael Jackson. Let’s not forget Prince, Tina Turner, Phil Collins and Motown’s Lionel Ritchie. Some of these musicians played music that has stood the test of time. Undoubtedly, the 80s pop music scene will live on for many more years to come.
12. What is the text mainly about?
A. The characters of 80s pop music.
B. What made 80s pop music popular.
C. 80s pop music’s steps to popularity.
D. The effects of 80s pop music.
13. 80s pop music mainly includes the following styles EXCEPT ________.
A. guitar-based music
B. the MTV
C. rap music
D. punk rock
14. Michael Jackson’s Thriller impressed people so deeply mainly because ________.
A. it changed the lives of people
B. he sang it in a special style
C. it was made into a music video
D. it left people with happy memories
15. The purpose of the last paragraph is to tell readers that ________.
A. 80s pop music is and will remain popular
B. 80s pop music has many faults
C. 80s pop music is now out of date
D. we shouldn’t forget the great musicians of the 80s

Last month my family made about a trip to Brazil. We fly to Rio first. There we stayed at the Green Park Hotel, that was about one kilometre from the beach. It was very comfortable and really cheap. I could swam every day. There was music festival and a lot of famous musicians went to play there. We were such lucky to be able to go to some free concerts. Then we drove south to a city calling Paraty. The weather there were great and the people were friendly and nicely. The only problem was the food. There weren't many types of food to choose from and I got boring eating the same things every day. But all in all, it was a wonderful holiday.
第二节书面表达(满分25分)
52.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

“What’s this? — Ben Caruthers is trying out for Mr. Zuckerman?” My ears burned at hearing my name. It was Lindsey Stanton, the most popular eighth-grader in Bellworth Middle School, talking to her friends.
I held my breath. She obviously had no clue that my locker was next to Mrs. Stevens’s room, where the tryout schedule forCharlotte’s Webwas posted. It sounded that they were worrying that I would ruin the whole play, because I had never acted before. My stomach tightened into a big knot.
Who was I kidding? Lindsey was right. I’d never been in a play. At lunch I told Trevor, my best friend, that I’d
changed my mind. I’d join the technical crew instead. That fit my quiet-kid image better anyway. Trevor was surprised to my descision. He was keen on acting and expected my company in the play. He shook his head, but he didn’t try to change my mind. It wouldn’t have made a difference anyway — I was starting to look forward to being on the tech crew.
On Friday I checked the final cast list, just for fun. Trevor was Templeton, and Lindsey Stanton was Mrs. Zuckerman.
Rehearsals (排练) started, and I spent Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at school. It was fun to learn all the technical stuff and to watch the actors from backstage. By the third week I’d memorized everyone’s lines. Trevor and I talked all about the play and the rehearsals during our lunch time.
And then, only a week before the performance, everything fell apart. The eighth-grader who was supposed to play Mr. Zuckerman, crashed his bike and broke his leg. Then his understudy (替角) came down with the flu. Things like this weren’t supposed to happen in real life.
Mrs. Stevens called the cast together. She told us we couldn’t get someone else ready by the next week and that we would have to postpone the play. She frowned and continued, “If the auditorium (礼堂) is booked for later, we may even have to cancel.” For once the cast was silent.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Then I heard Trevor’s voice. “Ben Caruthers can do it. He knows all the lines.”
