I never had an enemy until Jeremy moved into our neighborhood. He moved here last week and lived next door to my best friend Stanley. I did not like Jeremy. He had a party and he didn't invite me. But he invited my best friend Stanley.
Dad told me that when he was my age, he had enemies too. But he knew of a way to make them go away. “The Enemy Pie,” he said.
Dad made the pie for me. It smelled really good, and it looked good enough to eat. “What exactly does it do to enemies? Can it make their hair fall out?” I asked.
Dad said, “In order for it to work, you need to spend a day with your enemy. Even worse, you have to be nice to him. It's not easy. But that's the only way that the enemy pie can work. Are you sure you want to do this?” Of course I was.
I rode my bike to Jeremy’s house and knocked at the door. When Jeremy opened the door, he seemed surprised. I invited him to come out and play. We rode bikes for a while. And then ate lunch together. After lunch, we went over to my house. It was strange but I was having fun with enemy.
We played games until my dad called us for dinner. Dad had made my favorite food. It was Jeremy's favorite too. Maybe the enemy wasn't so bad after all. When dad took out the enemy pie
I didn't want Jeremy to have it! “Don't worry,” dad said. “Now it has become a friend pie!

Nobody likes making mistakes. But no one is perfect. If you can learn from mistakes correctly, they can move you forward. If you have made mistakes that harm other people, it is important to offer a sincere apology in person. A good apology(道歉)will probably make the other person forgive(原谅)you. If you refuse to apologize, the person hurt by you will hold it against you.
If you are living a life being afraid to make mistakes, you will spend most of your life doing nothing. There is no harm in making mistakes. It is an essential part of going forward. The more duties you take, the more mistakes you will probably make.
Unluckily, it is natural to justify(为…..辩解). When you make a mistake you will first complain about someone else. When mistakes are made, the boss won't fancy your justifications. Sometimes it is best to say very simply--yes I made a mistake.
Mistakes happen for different reasons. To avoid repeating them, you need to understand the main reason for example. You may have made a mistake by saying some unkind words. If you make mistakes, because you're tired, try to get more sleep. If you are stressed, look for ways to relax and stay away from the stress of work.
You should avoid feeling guilty about making mistakes, but at the same time, you should make a decision to learn from them. If you repeat the same mistakes, it shows you aren't making progress and they cause repeating suffering. Often mistakes are caused by bad habits. To avoid making the same mistakes, you need to break bad habits. The sooner, the better.

Are you shy?If you are, you're not alone. In fact, about 50 percent of people are shy. Almost 80percent of people feel shy at some point in their lives. Now scientists have some interesting ideas about why people are shy. Scientists say f15 to 20 percent of babies behave shyly. Interestingly, these shy babies usually have shy parents. As a result, scientists believe some shyness is genetic (遗传的).
Family size may be another factor. Scientists at Harvard University found 66 percent of shy children had older brothers and sisters. These children were often bullied by their brothers and sisters. Therefore, they became shy. However, children with no brothers or sisters can be shy as
well. Growing up alone, they often play by themselves. It's hard for them to develop social skills as children from big families.
You may also be sad because of your birthplace. In Japan, most people are shy. But in Israel, only one third of people are. Why? One scientist says they treat failure differently. In Japan, when people fail they blame themselves. In Israel, people often blame other things, such as family, friends, or bad luck.
For some people, it can be difficult to make friends, speaking class, and even get a good job. But scientists say you can overcome your shyness. They suggest trying new things and talking with others more.

What can drones do? Their uses include taking pictures from the sky, observing wild animals and delivering packages. When equipped with cameras and other data gathering devices, drones provide us with an eye in the sky. Here are a few of the farming- related jobs, drones can do.
Looking for sick crops.
Jones can scan crops using different kinds of lights. They produce multispectral images that can help us find sick plants. drones can also detect bacteria(检测)that are harmful to crops. Farmers can check the drones’ air samples and find ways to protect their crops.

Getting into the office I saw a police officer. All of a sudden, I realized something was wrong. The police officer told me what had happened and we went to pick my sister up. After that, we went to the hospital and waited. Time seemed to stop. Finally, we went to see our mother. It was terrible.

Teresa, mommy's gone. She's dead.” I couldn't believe it. We dumped into the car and drove straight to the hospital. Most of my family were there. The silence was terrible. At 79 years old, dad was walking five miles a day at a speed that I had trouble catching up with. When I worked with him, he would always want to talk. I would say out of breath, “Dad, I can't talk and walk at the same time if we go this fast.” So, it was quite a shock to us when dad developed a heart disease and was sent to hospital, a few months before turning 80. We were all sad that “Mr. Health had been taken down by the illness, but lying in bed, he was all smiling and cheerful. I remember sitting at the kitchen table with him. “Dad,” I asked |”why are you still so happy?”
He smiled and said to me, “I'm happy I'm still here! I'm living on borrowed time.”
Dad mostly kept his optimistic attitude throughout his later years. Whenever I called and asked him how he was feeling, he would answer, “so far, so good. I'm still here!” In the past couple of years, this changed to a very strong voice. “I'm fine!” Dad really loved his 90th birthday party and he could not stop talking about his 100th birthday party that he was sure to have.
But, the most important lessons he taught my brothers and me were that seeing the goodness in people, fighting for the weak. Even when watching sports he would always tell me he was cheering for the poor team. He strongly encouraged us to stand up for what is right. These values were so important to Dad that they guided most of his decisions throughout his life. Being honest and knowing that he helped another person was so powerful that they made a difference to my life.

As we all know, sleeping is very important for teenagers. Most teenagers need about 8 to 9 hours of sleep each night. But about 1 in 4 teenagers have trouble in sleeping. When our body doesn't have enough hours to rest, we may feel tired or crazy, or we may be unable to think clearly.
A school task that's normally easy may let you feel impossible to finish, or we may feel it hard to play our favorite sport or instrument. So how can we get enough sleep we need? Here are some tips:
Be active during the day. For example, the little kids do much running in the day and most of them can sleep well at night. Do sports for at least 60 minutes a day. Many studies have told us physical activity can help people feel more relaxed to fall asleep. But don't exercise too close to bedtime.
Avoid alcohol and medicines. Lots of people think that alcohol or medicines will help them relaxed, but that's not right. Alcohol or medicines increase a person's chance of waking up in the middle of the night.
Keep a sleep routine. Go to bed at the same time every night. It helps the body expect to sleep. So before going to bed every night, you can do some reading, listening to music, spend time with a pet, keep a diary or doing anything to relax yourself.
Expect a good night's sleep. The more you worry about no sleeping, the greater risk you will keep awake. Instead of worrying that you won't sleep, remind yourself that you can say “good night,
I will sleep well.” several times during the day.
1.Why do some little kids sleep deeply at night?
A Because it is the nature of young kids.
B Because they are too young to keep awake.
C Because they must follow their parents' orders.
D Because most of them are active during the day.
2.The underlined word “routine’ means “_________” in Chinese.
A 平凡
B 常规
C 安静
D 美妙
3.We can probably read this passage in __________.
A a life magazine
B a storybook
C science fiction
