Team Leadership(中文)

Building a team takes time.
Most teams follow the path of "forming, storming, norming and performing." Knowing which phase you’re in can help you feel comfortable that you’re on the right path.
What you should know
Teams thrive on clarity and common goals.
The basics
All good teams are committed to achieving shared goals. To build commitment to a goal, a leader needs to communicate what the team is expected to deliver, why their work is important, and the deadlines.
• Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.
What you should know

The five dysfunctions of teams According to Patrick Lencioni's teaming model, there are five dysfunctions that get in the way of building great teams. The five dysfunctions are: Absence of trust -- unwilling to be vulnerable within the group. Fear of conflict -- seeking artificial harmony over constructive debate. Lack of commitment -- feigning buy-in for group decisions creates ambiguity throughout the organization. Avoidance of accountability -- ducking the responsibility to call peers on counterproductive behavior which sets low standards.

TeamworkEvery business school expects of you two potential qualities before it agrees to accept you for further training: leadership and teamwork skills. Was it Napolean who once said that a soldier who did not want to be a general was not a good soldier? If I take the liberty of translating it in the context of a business school, it goes like this: If you do not want to be a manager or CEO (Chief Executive Officer), you won't be a good student.I can still recall the weird expressions on my friends' faces when I told them that I would never dream of being in top management team. Why do you want to invest so much money in an MBA degree, if you do not have ambition?I was asked. Most of my fellow students wanted to have their own business, or to become a CEO, CFO (Chief Financial Officer), or COO (Chief Operating Officer),anything other than living a mediocre life. The education at the school further encourages you to embrace such an ambition. From the first day at school, you are offered a wide array of lectures on leadership skills. You are taught to be aggressive and ambitious since the business school's objective is to train middle and top management candidates. If you are mild before you go to business school, you are expected to become tough upon graduation. On the other hand, at business school you have to cultivate your teamwork skills, that is, how to work and interact with different people in the same group. Throughout the two-year study, group work constitutes and overwhelmingly heavy portion of your study life. Together, you have to work on the problem sets, on group projects and on presentations. Together, you will become wild with joy at a joint good grade and feel down-crested at a bad collective performance.Team work can be a very pleasant experience if everyone cooperates and is readily open to different perspectives. However, it can also be extremely frustrating, especially when you've got a few self-centered and free-riding students. But you come to learn to cope with different situations and play different roles in different groups. Perhaps you are the group leader this time and will be a facilitator next time. The most important thing is that you have to make yourself feel comfortable with different roles. These skills pay off when you go through the excruciating and frustratingjob interviews. Almost every company that interviewed me asked me to give an example of my being a leader in a project and an example of working in a team.Remember, wherever you work, leadership and teamwork skills are the two essential tools for your success. This is what the business school has trained me to believe.New words and expressions生词和短语potential [pə'tenʃ(ə)] adj.

Leading a team requires a diverse skill set and a deep understanding of both the team's dynamics and the projectat hand. Throughout my experience in leadership roles, I've honed my abilities to effectively guide a team towards success.First and foremost, communication is paramount. Whether it's conveying the project goals, providing feedback, or resolving conflicts, clear and concise communication is key. For instance, during a recent project, there was a misunderstanding regarding the deadline. Instead of blaming anyone, I organized a team meeting to clarify the timeline and ensure everyone was on the same page. This open communication fostered trust within the team and boosted morale.Another crucial aspect of leading a team is delegation.Knowing when and how to delegate tasks ensures that each team member is contributing their strengths to the project.I remember a time when we had a tight deadline and a large workload. Instead of trying to tackle everything myself, I delegated specific tasks to team members based on their expertise. This not only lightened the workload but also empowered team members to take ownership of their responsibilities.Furthermore, adaptability is essential in a dynamic work environment. Projects rarely go exactly as planned, and being able to adapt to unforeseen challenges is vital. For example, in a recent project kickoff, we encountered unexpected technical issues that threatened to derail our progress. Instead of panicking, I encouraged the team to brainstorm solutions together. Through collaboration and creative problem-solving, we were able to overcome the obstacles and deliver the project successfully.Lastly, leading by example is perhaps the mosteffective way to inspire and motivate a team. By demonstrating dedication, hard work, and a positiveattitude, I set the tone for the team's work ethic. During a particularly demanding project, I made sure to show up early, stay late when necessary, and maintain a can-do attitude throughout. My commitment to the project motivated the team to push through challenges and deliver exceptional results. In conclusion, effective team leadership requires strong communication, adept delegation, adaptability, and leading by example. By cultivating these skills and applying them in real-world scenarios, I've been able to lead teams to success time and time again."

Title: The Power of Team SportsIn the vast landscape of physical activities, team sports stand out as a unique and enriching form of exercise that transcends mere physical fitness. They are a testament to the synergy of individual talents, the resilience of human spirit, and the beauty of collaboration. Through team sports, individuals learn invaluable life lessons, forge unbreakable bonds, and discover strengths they never knew they possessed.Fostering Teamwork and CommunicationAt the heart of every team sport lies the essence of teamwork. Players are required to work in harmony, understanding each other's strengths and weaknesses, to achieve a common goal. This necessitates effective communication, both verbal and non-verbal, as players constantly share information, give instructions, and adjust strategies on the fly. In doing so, they develop essential skills that extend far beyond the playing field, enhancing their ability to collaborate in academic, professional, and personal settings.Building Character and ResilienceTeam sports are a crucible for character building. They expose players to challenges, setbacks, and even failures, teaching them the importance of perseverance and resilience. When faced with adversity, whether it's a missed shot, a lost game, or an injury, players learn to bounce back, dust themselves off, and keep fighting. This mindset, cultivated through the rigors of team sports, equips individuals with the resilience necessary to navigate life's inevitable obstacles.Promoting Leadership and ResponsibilityWithin a team, leadership roles naturally emerge, providing opportunities for players to take charge and make decisions. Whether it's a captain guiding the team during a game or a teammate encouraging a struggling colleague, these moments foster leadership skills. At the same time, every player is responsible for their own performance and contribution to the team's success. This sense of accountability instills a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence.Creating a Sense of Belonging and CamaraderieTeam sports foster a sense of camaraderie and belonging that is hard to replicate in other aspects of life. Shared experiences, both triumphs and tribulations, bind players together in a way that transcends mere friendship. They form a tight-knit community where support, encouragement, and celebration are the norm. This sense of unity and belonging is a powerful motivator, driving players to give their best for the sake of the team.Developing Physical and Mental FitnessLastly, team sports contribute significantly to physical and mental fitness. The physical demands of training and competition strengthen the body, improving cardiovascular health, muscular endurance, and overall physical well-being. Mentally, team sports sharpen focus, enhanceproblem-solving abilities, and reduce stress. The endorphins released during exercise further boost mood and overall sense of well-being.In conclusion, team sports are far more than just a means of staying fit or having fun. They are transformative experiences that shape individuals into better versions of themselves. By fostering teamwork, building character, promoting leadership, creating a sense of belonging, and enhancing physical and mental fitness, team sports lay the foundation for a lifetime of success and fulfillment. As such, they should be embraced and celebrated as an integral part of our lives.。
