QUESTIONS 46-50
Read the text and the questions below.
For each question, mark the letter next to the correct answer –A, B, C or D.请把答案涂在答题卡第一部分客观题对应题号上。
Last week I bought a stereo from your shop in Leeds Road. In the advertisement placed in the shop window, it said this stereo was “one of the best pieces of modern high technology equipment to be found around today”. It also pointed out that it was a “quality” product at an unbeatable price. In other words, “a real value for money”. As soon as I got home, I took it out of its cardboard box and set it up in the corner of my living room. I then
plugged it in and switched it on. Nothing happened. I tried tuning in to the radio station again but unfortunately that made absolutely no difference. I decided to give up all hope of listening to the radio and I put on a CD. Dead silence! At this point you can imagine how upset and annoyed I was.
I even tried changing the plug! Anyway, I decided to phone your shop and I asked to speak to Customer Services. After waiting no less than fifteen minutes, a rather bored voice explained that there was nothing they could do, as the item in question had been sold during the sales and that it was company policy never to exchange goods sold in the sales.
I have no intention of keeping this faulty stereo and would like to get it exchanged as soon as possible. Otherwise, I’m afraid I’ll have to take legal action.
46 What is the writer trying to do in this text?
A give instructions
B sell modern technology
C make a complaint
D get a discount
47 Who was the letter sent to?
A the local radio station
B the writer’s lawyer
C Customer Services
D the manager of the shop
48 What does the writer think of the stereo?
A It’s faulty.
B It’s a great piece of equipment.
C It’s got an unbeatable price.
D It doesn’t play CD’s loud enough.
49 What will the writer do if his/her request is ignored?
A buy another stereo
B throw it away
C write to his/her lawyer
D send it to a technician
50 Which of the following is a suitable reply to the letter?
A Thank you for your letter. I do apologize about the attitude from
Customer Services. I will see to it personally that your stereo is exchanged immediately.
B Thank you for your letter. I’m terribly sorry to hear that the plug didn’t
fit properly. We’ll be sending you a new one in the next post.
C Thank you for your letter. If you’d like to arrange an appointment with
my secretary, I’d be quite happy to give you some legal advice on this matter.
D Thank you for your letter. I’m afraid the new hi-fi equipment will not
be with us next week as there have been some delivery problems.
