let alone 关于 still less, still more 和 let alone 区别。

still less 只用于否定句，still more 用于肯定句，是强意肯定， let alone 表示进一步的否定或肯定，意为更不用说、还不算。

e. g. The baby can’t walk, let alone run. (更不用说跑 )
He can’t speak his native languag e well, let alone English.
Her temper is bad enough, let alone her extravagance.
（还不算）(肯定)
另外，still less = much less = even less, 它们可以用在否定句中：
He could barely pay for his own meal, much less for mine.
He can’t run a hundred yards, even less a mile.
The baby can’t even walk, much less run.
despite 论语气，despite 比in spite of 谨严，但意思没有分别，都可译做虽然或不顾，例如：I n spite of/Despite mounting public discontent, the government is determined to push the bill through.（虽然公众不满愈来愈强烈，政府还是执意要通过议案。

）有时，我们会看到 despite of mounting public discontent 之类说法，但 despite 之后加 of ，一般被视为鄙俗甚至不正确，不宜仿效。

I n spite of 或 despite 之后必须用名词或动名词（gerund ），不能接普通子句（clause ），例如不可说 Despite the public is getting increasingly discontented只能说Despite the fact that the public is getting increasingly discontented。

As regards/ with regards to 用于句子开头 Regarding in regards to 用于句中
await ，wait （一）await 是及物动词，后面直接接宾语；wait 虽然也可用作及物动词，但在现代英语中，一般作不及物动词用，与for ，to ，till ，until 等词连用。

（二）await 的宾语大都是抽象名词，如： decision ，reply ，arrival ，announcement ，return 等；wait for 的宾语一般是人或事物。
