第三部分:阅读理解(共16 小题, 每小题2分 , 满分32分) A
My morning routine varies little from day to day. I walk the dog , eat breakfast at the kitchen counter with Katie and Matt, and then settle in for a day at the computer. And because I work
mostly from home, I have learned that little walks into the outs ide world are important for psychological well-
being. So before I begin attempting to put sentences together, I walk over to a little coffee shop in my neighborhood, and ch at with the folks behind the counter.
The coffee shop is on the other side of the historic from my h ouse. Whenever in season, tourists line up to take a slow boat , if not to , at least into the 19th century.
One warm day last fall, I turned the corner to see one of the b oatmen sitting alone on the boat, bathed in early-
morning light. He was playing the violin. The scene stopped m e in my tracks. What I witnessed could only be described as a perfect moment. Ten seconds at most. But months later I still remember just standing there, watching, listening, and taking i t all in.
We all have such moments put before us. Little surprises. Wh ether we’re wise enough to see them is another thing.
I thought of the violin man one Sunday afternoon while readin g the biographies of those killed in the incident. The specialist Laurel Clark, talking from the shuttle a few days before it was to land, said it was blissful to see the simple unexpected won ders of space, like a sunset. “There’s a flash; the whole paylo ad bay turns this rosy pink,” she said. “It only lasts about 15 s
econds, and then it’s gone.”
I once had a friend who had a strange habit that never stoppe d to amuse me, maybe because I never quite knew when she was going to spring it on me. It could come in the middle of a particularly lively dinner with old friends. Out of the blue, she’d say, “Stop! I want to remember this moment.” I realize now, a fter her death, what wise advice that is.
56. The author goes out for a walk every day in the morning mainly because _____.
A. she needs to walk the dog and enjoy the fresh air
B. she benefits psychologically from contacting the outside world
C.she considers that it is good for her physical health
D. she hates to be left alone at home when others are out
57. The underlined word “blissful” in Paragraph 5 probably me ans _____.
A. valuable
B. enjoyable
C. agreeable
D. reasonable
58. The main purpose of the passage is to tell people to _____
A. develop a good habit
B. enjoy life to the fullest
C. catch the valuable moments in life
D. be willing to follow friends’ advice
59. “I” in the passage is probably a _____.
A. violinist
B. waitress
C. sailor
D. writer

Have you ever picked a job based on the fact that you were good at it but later found it made you feel very uncomfortable over time? When you select your career, there's a whole lot m ore to it than assessing your skills and matching them with a p articular position. If you ignore your personality, it will hurt you long-
term regardless of your skills or the job’s pay. There are sever al areas of your personality that you need to consider to help you find a good job. Here are a few of those main areas;
1) Do you prefer working alone or with other people?
There are isolating jobs that will drive an outgoing person c razy and also interactive jobs that will make a shy person une asy. Most people are not extremes in either direction but do h ave a tendency that they prefer. There are also positions that are sometimes a combination of the two, which may be best f or someone in the middle who adapts easily to either situation .
2) How do you handle change?
Most jobs these days have some elements of change to them, but some are more than others. If you need stability in your lif e, you may need a job where the changes don't happen so oft en. Other people would be bored of the same daily routine.
3) Do you enjoy working with computers?
I do see this as a kind of personality characteristic. There a re people who are happy to spend more than 40 hours a wee k on a computer, while there are others who need a lot of hum an interaction throughout the day. Again, these are extremes and you'll likely find a lot of positions somewhere in the middl
e as well.
4) What type of work environment do you enjoy?
This can range from being in a large building with a lot of p eople you won't know immediately to a smaller setting where you'll get to know almost all the people there fairly quickly.
5) How do you like to get paid?
Some people are motivated by the pay they get, while other s feel too stressed to be like that. The variety of payment desi gns in the sales industry is a typical example for this.
Anyway, these are a great starting point for you. I've seen it over and over again with people that they make more money over time when they do something they love. It may take you a little longer, but making a move to do what you have a passi on for can change the course of your life for the better.
60. What is unnecessary in your job hunting?
A. Going to different areas.
B. Assessing your skills.
C. Matching your skills with a position .
D. Taking your personality into consideration.
61. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Isolating jobs usually drive people mad.
B. Interacti ve jobs make people shy easily.
C. Extreme people tend to work with others.
D. Almos t everyone has a tendency in jobs.
62. What is the missing word about a job search in the followi ng chart?
skills
Jobs
Environment
Motivation
Stability
?
A. Design.
B. Cooperation.
C. Changes.
D. Hobbies.
63. What is the best title for this passage?
A. Lifestyles and Job Pay
B. Jobs and Environme nt
C. Personalities and Jobs
D. Job Skills and Abiliti e

I live in the land of Disney, and year-
round sun. You may think people in such a splendid, fun-filled place are happier than others. If so, you have some mist aken ideas about the nature of happiness.
Many intelligent people still equate happiness with fun. The tr uth is that fun and happiness have little or nothing in common. Fun is what we experience during an act. Happiness is what we experience after an act. It is a deeper, more lasting emotio n.
Going to an amusement park or ball game, watching a movie or television, are fun activities that help us relax, temporarily f orget our problems and maybe even laugh. But they do not bri ng happiness, because their positive effects end when the fun ends.
I have often thought that if Hollywood stars have a role to play , it is to teach us that happiness has nothing to do with fun. Th ese rich, beautiful individuals have constant access to glamor
ous(光鲜华丽
的) parties, fancy cars, and expensive homes, everything that spells “happiness”. But in memoir(回忆录)
after memoir, they reveal the unhappiness hidden beneath all their fun: depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, broken marri ages, troubled children and profound loneliness.
Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage, if he’s honest, and h e will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment, for co mmitment is in fact quite painful. The single life is filled with fu n, adventure and excitement. Marriage has such moments, bu t they are not its most distinguishing features.
Similarly, couples that choose not to have children are decidin g in favor of painless fun over painful happiness. They can din e out whenever they want and sleep as late as they can. Cou ples with infant children are lucky to get a whole night’s sleep or a three-
day vacation. I don’t know any parent who would choose the word fun to describe raising children.
Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberating(解放性的)
realizations. It liberates time: now we can devote more hours t o activities that can really increase our happiness. It liberates money: buying that new car or those fancy clothes that will do nothing to increase our happiness now seems pointless. And it liberates us from envy: we now understand that all those ric h and glamorous people (who) we were so sure are happy be cause they are always having so much fun actually may not b
e happy at all.
64. We can learn from the passage that____________.
A. fun creates long-lasting satisfaction
B. fun provides enjoyment while pain leads to happiness
C. happiness is lasting while fun is short-lived
D. fun that is long-standing may lead to happiness
65. To the author, the role Hollywood stars will play is to ____ _____.
A. write memoir after memoir about their happiness
B. tell the public that happiness has nothing to do with fun
C. teach people how to enjoy their lives
D. bring happiness to the public instead of going to parties
66. Which of the following is the best example of “painful happ iness”?
A.Winning lottery(彩
票) by accident. B. A bachelor resisting marriage.
C. Raising children.
D. Buying some f ancy clothes.
67. If one gets the meaning of the true sense of happiness, he will____________.
A. stop playing games and joking with others
B. keep hims elf with his family

Researchers have developed new software using smart ph ones’ GPS and imaging abilities that determine the exact loca tion of distant objects as well as monitor the speed and directi on of moving objects. The software could eventually allow sm art phone armed soldiers to target the location of their enemie s. On the home front, the software could be used by everyone , including golfers judging distance to the green and biologists documenting the location of a rare animal without disturbing it .
“The great advantage of a smart phone is that it provides so many tools in a single, readily available, relatively inexpensive package,” said Qia Wang, a doctoral student who led the dev elopment of the software. “For example, on the battlefield, a s oldier needs a rangefinder(测距
仪), compass, GPS and other tools to get information before c alling in an air strike. With our software, the soldier can have all those instruments in one device that can be purchased off t he shelf. When that soldier returns from war, she can use the same software to protect her family by clocking a speeder nea r her children’s school and catching the criminal on video.” W ang and his colleagues developed their software to locate and track:
Targets of known size —
When the size of the target is known, a single image is enoug h to pinpoint(确定) the target's location.
Targets of unknown size —
If the exact size of a target is unknown, the software uses two images to triangulate(三角测量) the location of the target.
Moving targets —
By taking a short video of a moving target, the smart phone s oftware can calculate how fast the target is moving and in wh at direction it is going.
“Currently, our software is limited by the physical abilities of s mart phone hardware, but the devices are improving rapidly,”Wang said. “We expect that improvements in GPS accuracy, battery life and camera resolution(分辨
率) will allow our software to make even more accurate obser vations.”
68. From Paragraph l we can know that the new software can _______________.
A. help biologists protect rare animals
B. determine the s peed of moving objects
C. defend soldiers against their enemies
D. locate objects in the distance exactly
69. The example given by Qia Wang is meant to ___________ ____.
A. make an advertisement
B.describe the software briefl y
C. show the benefits of the software
D. present the functions of smart phones
70. How does the software calculate the speed of a moving o
bject?
A. By taking a short video.
B. By locating its po sition.
C. By taking a single image.
D. By measuring r eal-life size.
71. What's Qia Wang's attitude towards the future of the softw are?
A. Casual.
B. Flexible
C. Cautious.
D. Optimistic.

Nowadays, WeChat is becoming more and more popular in th e world. Different people, however, hold different opinions on t
his matter. Opinions are divided into two groups.
According to some people, there are lots of reasons for the po pularity of Wechat. First of all, it is easy to use. You can log in to it with your phone number and start a conversation by tapp ing the speak button. In addition, Wechat is a wonderful platfo rm for people to share an ample amount of information. It eve n supports sending photos and videos. Meanwhile, using Wec hat, you can also do group chats, or find new friends nearby t o talk to, which helps make many friends and express your fe elings and opinions more freely.
On the other hand, some people argue that although Wechat benefits us a lot, it has some drawbacks. When using WeChat , people tend to forget time and some may even get addicted t o it, which will definitely affect their study and work. At the sa me time, spending too much time on the screen does affect e ye health, which may cause trouble. Worse still, people may r eveal their personal information while using it, which may lead to crimes.
As far as I’m concerned, everyone is supposed to exploit Wec hat within limits. As a student, I acknowledge that Wechat is n ot only beneficial but also dangerous. Therefore, I insist that w e shouldn’t spend too much time on it. We should balance life’s competing interests--
- in a student’s case, study, health and safety. And it’s of vital importance for us to protect ourselves when we use it
