The way to King Street
Last week Mrs. Mills went to London.
She does not know London very well, and she lost her way.
Suddenly, she saw a man near a bus stop.
‘I can ask him the way.’ she said to herself.
‘Excuse me,’ she said.
‘Can you tell me the way to King Street, please’
The man smiled pleasantly.
He did not understand English!
He spoke German.
He was a tourist.
Then he put his hand into pocket, and took out a phrasebook.
He opened the book and found a phrase.
He read the phrase slowly.
‘I am sorry,’ he said.
‘I do not speak English.’
1. Last week Mrs. Mills went to London.
last week, three days ago, yesterday... ...时间副词,放在句首或句尾
复习学过的：
always,often,usually,sometimes,seldom,never 频率副词，放在助动词后主动词前
He often gets up at 5 o’clock.
We don’t always go to school by bus.
does not know London very well.
know…well 对…了解
--Do you know him well
--I don’t know Italy very well.

lost 是lose的过去式
lose v. 丢失
--I lost my key the day before yesterday.
lose one’s way 迷路了
4. Suddenly, she saw a man near a bus stop. suddenly adv. 突然地
--He suddenly came in.
--Suddenly, they screamed.
5. ‘I can ask him the way.’ she said to herself. say to oneself 心中暗想
talk to oneself 自言自语地说

on the way to school

tell sb the way to... 告诉某人去…的路

understand v. 懂，明白
understood (过去式)
--The book is very hard to understand.
--I don’t understand Italian.
--My grandmother understood Russian when she was alive.
8. Then he put his hand into his pocket, and took out a phrasebook.
1)put…into…把…放进…里
--Then he put his hand into his pocket.
--put 的过去式与动词原形一样，在此句中put为过去式。

--Put your new dress into the wardrobe.
2)take out 拿出来…
--He took out a phrasebook.（took是take 的过去式）
--Please take out your book.
take…out of…把…从…里面拿出来
--He took a gun out of his bag.
9. He read the phrase slowly.
The man smiled pleasantly.
方式副词：carefully仔细地；suddenly突然，rapidly迅速地，slowly慢慢地，favorably顺利地，hard努力地
方式副词常用来修饰动词,包括不定式、动名词和分词，通常位于被修饰的动词后面;修饰及物动词时,一般放在宾语的后面。

位置：动宾后
--They walked slowly. slowly修饰动词walked。

--The snow continued to fall heavily. heavily修饰不定词to fall。

副词的构词法：许多方式副词都是由形容词+ly 构成
1. 直接+ly
warm ? warmly slow ? slowly quick ? quickly
hurried?hurriedly pleasant?pleasantly
2. 辅音+y，变y为i，再加ly
heavy ? heavily thirsty ? thirstily adv.如饥似渴地
busy ? busily
3. 同形情况（不仅限于方式副词）
early ? early hard ? hard well ? well
late---late(adj.) be late for school (adv.) come home late.
fast---fast(adj.) a fast car (adv.) run fast
hard---hard(adj.) hard work (adv.) work hard
well---well(adj.) I’m well. (adv.) I swim well.

找出句中副词，说明修饰关系
father shaved hurriedly this morning and cut himself badly.
