Who should take care of
the old? Of course, the children. That’s what most Chinese people will say if they are asked of this question. But it seems out-of –the- date. As the step of our life has become faster than ever, people are working longer time and they have less time to spend with their parents. In this case, it is difficult for them to earn the bread for the family and at the
same time to shoulder the burden of taking of the old in their family.
It is a tradition for most Chinese people to look after their parents when they grow up. And the old usually need something other than care and service. They value the time they can spend together with their children even after they have grown up and got
married. But there is a weakness in it- the children cannot stay with their parents all the time. During the daytime they still feel lonely and they have to suffer the solitude. So it has been suggested that the government may provide facilities and services to take care of the old. In some old people’s houses the old can enjoy professional medical care
and some old companions whom they can share the same idea with. So their children will have more time to do what they like to do. Both can benefit from the solution.
We can draw a conclusion that the government should take up the responsibility to take care of the old and the children should pay for it.。
