摘要：A bowl-feed apparatus is described in which a gas flow is used to drive workpieces (3) through tooling (5) designed to segregate and orientate them. The tooling (5) is optionally interchangeable, and depends on the workpieces (3) being fed through the system. Workpieces (3) are initially supplied to a rotating disc (8) at the centre of the bowl, the rotation forcing them onto a feedtrack (4) at the disc perimeter. Gas is fed onto the feedtrack (4) through slots, angled such that gas propels the workpieces (3) along the feedtrack (4) and through the bowl tooling (5). The track is segmented, each segments being associated with its own gas inlet and regulator (21). In this way the flow characteristics, and hence the velocity of the workpieces (3), can be varied in each of the track segments. By having a completely controllable feed rate and the ability to exchange the tooling (5) within the bowl, the same bowl can be used to feed a multitude of different workpieces (3). The ease of "fine-tuning" the bowl for different workpieces (3) and tooling (5) greatly reduces the number of stoppages due to workpieces jamming the system.
