To know something about some festivals around the world and their celebrations
2.Ability aims :
(1)To develop the students’ reading skills
(2)To improve the ability of the students’ reading comprehension
(3)To improve the students’ English speaking ability

To arouse the students’ interest in learning about Chinese festivals and foreign festivals

三、教学程序:
Step 1. Waming-up :
Get the students to list some Chinese and foreign festivals they know.
Step 2.Pre-reading :
Discuss your favourite festival with your partner, including the following imformation.
1.What is your favourite festival? Why?
2.When does it take place?
3.What does it celebrate?
4.What do your family do during that festival?
Step 3.Fast-reading :
1.Skimming : Get the students to look through the title, the last paragraph, the big black
titles of each paragraph and pictues, and then guess the main idea of the text.
2.Scanning :
(1)Listen to the recording of the text FESTIV ALS AND CELEBRATIONS, and then
match the following festivals with their correct type.

1.Let the students work in groups of four and tell their group mates which kinds of
festivals they think are the most important and which are the most fun. Then fill in
the chart.
2.Creating a new festival: Imagine somewhere someone is celebrating right now. Our
world is filled with mystical celebrations and powerful memories. Let the students to
discuss with their group mates what holiday it is today and fill in the chart.

FESTIV ALS AND CELEBRATIONS
