We are proud to present a showcase for kid inventions from children chosen from the Kid's Forum at Blue Print Earth. We hope you enjoy the ideas expressed here and join us in supporting the next generation.
Eater of Natural Disasters
My invention cansave your home by sucking up all-natural disasters. The government will not own this machine, but by you so there will be no taxes on it. Order Now! The Eater of Natural Disasters will run on renewable batteries. It will cost 50 dollars to make and I will sell it for just $ 75.
Created by Matthew Szekeresh —Mt.WashingtonElementary, 5th Grade.
Pick-up-Pollution Bomb
My invention is called the Pick-up-Pollution Bomb. It will just pick up pollution and it won't hurt anything else like people, animals, property, playgrounds, and parks. The reason why I made it is that I think there is too much pollution on the Earth. It sells for $100 apiece, and if you buy this now, I will send you another one for free.
Created gratefully by Lauren Newberry — Mt. Washington Elementary, 5th Grade
Flying House
My invention is a home that will blast off in space. For example, if there were an earthquake people would immediately blast off, or if there were a flood it would take off. Only for $ 400.99.
Created by David Turner —Mt.WashingtonElementary, 5th Grade
Bug Robot
My invention is a robot that catches little bugs, eats little bugs, sucks up pollution, sucks up natural disasters, and turns them into food solving the problems of too many little bugs, natural disasters, pollution and starvation. My product is worth $500. My invention works on 2 triple — A batteries. And if you order one today I'll throw in 4 rechargeable triple-A batteries.

The far side of the moonis a strange and wild region, quite different from the familiar and mostly smooth face we see nightly from our planet. Soon this rough space will have even stranger features: it will be crowded with radio telescopes.
Astronomers are planning to make the moon's distant side our newest and best window on the cosmic(宇宙的) dark ages, a mysterious era hiding early marks of stars and galaxies. Our universe was not always filled with stars. About 380,000 years after the big bang, the universe cooled, and the first atoms of hydrogen formed. Gigantic hydrogen clouds soon filled the universe. But for a few hundred million years, everything remained dark, without stars. Then came the cosmic dawn: the first stars flickered, galaxies came into existence and slowly the universe's largescale structure took shape.
The seeds of this structure must have been present in the darkage hydrogen clouds, but the era has been impossible toprobeusing optical(光学的) telescopes—there was no light. And although this hydrogen produced longwavelength(or lowfrequency) radio emissions, radio telescopes on Earth have found it nearly impossible to detect them. Our atmosphere either blocks or disturbs these faint signals; those that get through are drowned out by humanity's radio noise.
Scientists have dreamed for decades of studying the cosmic dark ages from the moon's far side. Now multiple space agencies plan lunar missions carrying radiowavedetecting instruments—some within the next three years—and astronomers' dreams are set to become reality.
“If I were to design an ideal place to do lowfrequency radio astronomy, I would have to build the moon,”says astrophysicist Jack Burns of the University of Colorado Boulder. “We are just now finally getting to the place where we're actually going to be putting these telescopes down on the moon in the next few years.”
4. What's the purpose of building radio telescopes on the moon?
A To research the big bang. B. To discover unknown stars.
C. To study the cosmic dark ages.
D. To observe the far side of the moon.
5. What does the underlined word “probe” in Paragraph 3 possibly mean?
A. Explore.
B. Evaluate.
C. Produce.
D. Predict.
6. Hydrogen radio emissions can't be detected on Earth because ________.
A. there was no light in the dark ages
B. they cannot possibly get through our atmosphere
C. gigantic hydrogen clouds no longer fill the universe
D. radio signals on Earth cause too much interference
7. What can we infer from theunderlined sentence in the last paragraph?
A. Scientists have to rebuild the moon.
B. We will finally get to the moon's distant side.
C. The moon is a perfect place to set up radio telescopes.
D. A favorable research environment will be found on the moon.
C
Jack was born without eyes. He was very lucky as he grew up having other kittens (young cats) to socialize (交往)with, and was used to people from the moment he was born. However, when it came time to find the kittens homes, no one knew where Jack would end up.
That’s when I got an e-mail from my friend. All she asked was “Do you still want one of the kittens? There’s one here with no eyes and no one would like to take him”. Without thinking I told her that I did want the kitten.
When we first brought him home, Jack stayed mostly in my room. After about a day he had noissues running around and climbing on everything. At times he gets lost in the house, he’ll stop. But we just call his name and talk to him and it isn’t long before he finds his way back to us.
A few weeks after getting Jack, we got a new cat named Bear. Jack and Bear have become best friends. It doesn’t matter that he can’t see. He always knows when Bear is around. He’ll run across the yard straight to Bear and wrap his front legs around his neck in a big hug. They run after each other around and wrestle (摔跤). They’ll lie down in the grass together when tired.
Jack is truly an inspiration. I’ve owned lots of kittens in my life, but Jack is the happiest and most playful. He doesn’t feel sorry for himself. He doesn’t need pity. I think Jean, owner of Gumbo, another eyeless cat, said it best when she told me that cats don’t have disabilities; they have adaptability.
8. Why did Jack come to the author’s home?
A. The author cared for an eyeless cat.
B. The author didn’t mind whether he was blind.
C. No other young cats kept him company.
D. The author’s friend begged the author to take him home.
9. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. Jack often wrestles with Bear indoors.
B. Jack likes to play with a new eyeless cat.
C. Jack quickly adapts to the new environment.
D. Jack is good at talking and playing with people.
10. What does the underlined word “issue” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Trouble.
B. Fun.
C. Luck.
D. Business.
11. What does the passage mainly tell us?
A. A cat has nine lives.
B. All is well that ends well.
C. God helps those who help themselves.
D. A good beginning makes a good ending.
D
We interviewed two people, one who went from the country to the city and one who did the opposite.
Janet Lincoln is a salesgirl who moved to St. Louisfive years ago. Here’s what Janet told us:
“Five years ago I used to live in a small town called Lemon Falls. I grew up and went to high school there. After I graduated I worked in a supermarket. Lemon Falls had a population of about 800 people, and I knew every single one of them. They all knew everything about me, too. You couldn’t do anything without everyone in town knowing about it. The first chance I got I moved to St. Louis and I love it. I don’t know as many people now as I used to, but that’s OK. I have a few good friends, and I see them when I want to. I kind of like beinganonymous. I’d never go back to Lemon Falls.”
Troy Henson had the opposite experience. He and his wife, Darla, and their two children moved from St. Louis to Bloomfield three years ago. Here’s what Troy told us:
“The best thing we ever did was get out of St. Louis. Don’t get me wrong; St. Louis is as good a place as any other city, I suppose — if you like cities, that is. We don’t. Both Darla and I grew up in St. Louis. We met at college and got married. Then the kids came along and life got difficult. We didn’t know any of our neighbors. We both had good jobs, but it always seemed like there was never enough money. That all changed when we moved to
Bloomfield. I don’t make as much money as I used to, but then we don’t have as many expenses as we did. We know our neighbors. Life is good. We’d never leave Bloomfield.”
12. What troubled Janet when she was in Lemon Falls?
A. She had no friends.
B. There was no privacy.
C. There was a lot of competition.
D. She couldn’t find a well-paid job.
13. What does the underlined word “anonymous” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Alone.
B. Prepared.
C. Sociable.
D. Unknown.
14. Different from Janet, Troy ________.
A. prefers country life
B. moved to a bigger city
C. grew up in a smaller town
D. knows little about his new neighbors
15. What is Troy’s opinion on living in Bloomfield?
A. It is a little boring.
B. It is quite comfortable.
C. It costs a lot of money.
D. It creates a safe environment.

You can choose to record everyday happenings of your daily life, or the special events. You can put down your thoughts, ideas or feelings. Writing is your conversation with yourself.
When you start a diary, you can be yourself on those pages, understanding yourself as well as others. We often fail to read social cues, facial expressions, body language, etc.____17____It’s like reading a book, where you understand the characters and situations easily, except, the characters are you and your acquaintances, and the situations are real.
___18___On a daily basis, we go through several confusions. We often get confused with too many thoughts in our head. Writing helps to organize them. Things we are unable to process, feelings we are unable to recognize – they find a definition and recognition.
When you write a diary, you also leave yourself something to look at later. Have you ever found a letter, a copy, or just a gift that has made you go back in time? Have you ever found a piece of your life, a memory of the past, missing? In your diary, you revisit the moments you have been through and how you have come out of them stronger.___19___
So make it a habit to write a diary. Write to keep a record. Write to develop your language. Write to accept failure.____20____Write for no reason, because writing a diary is one of the best lifestyle choices, which will help you become your own friend.
A. However, when we write it down, things become easy and clear.
B. Thus, writing helps analyze a situation, too.
C. Maintaining your own diary doesn’t have any rules.
D. Write to recognize success.
E. A diary is a silent witness to your changes and developments.
