三、阅读理解
20. 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Odland remembers like it was yesterday working in an expensive French restaurant in Denver. The ice cream he was serving fell onto the white dress of a rich and important woman.
Thirty years have passed, but Odland can' t get the memory out of his mind, nor the woman' a kind reaction(反应). She was shocked, regained calmness and, in a kind voice, told the young Odland, “It' s OK. It wasn' t your fault.”When she left the restaurant, she also left the future Fortune 500 CEO (总裁) with a life lesson: You can tell a lot about a person by the way he or she treats the waiter.
Odland isn't the only CEO to have made this discovery. Rather, it seems to be one of those few laws of the land that every CEO learns on the way up. It' s hard to get a dozen CEOs to agree about anything, but most agree with the Waiter Rule. They say how others treat the CEO says noth-ing. But how others treat the waiter is like a window into the soul.
Watch out for anyone who pulls out the power card to say so mething like, “I could buy this place and fire you,” or “I know the owner and I could have you fired. ”Those who say such things have shown more about their character (人品) than about their wealth and power.
The CEO who came up with it, or at least first wrote it down, is Raytheon CEO Bill Swanson. He wrote a best-selling book called Swanson' s Unwritten Rules of Management.
“A person who is nice to you but rude to the waiter, or to others, is not a nice person, ” Swan-son says. “I will never offer a job to the person who is sweet to the boss but turns rude to someone cleaning the tables. ”
60. What happened after Odiand dropped the ice cream onto the woman' s dress?
A. He was fired.
B. He was blamed.
C. The woman comforted him.
D. The woman left the restaurant at once.
61. Odiand learned one of his life lessons from ______.
A. his experience as a waiter
B. the advice given by the CEOs
C. an article in Fortune
D. an interesting best-selling book
62. According to the text, most CEOs have the same opinion about _______.
A. Fortune 500 companies
B. the Management Rules
C. Swanson' s book
D. the Waiter Rule
63. From the text we can learn that _______.
A. one should be nicer to important people
B. CEOs often show their power before others
C. one should respect others no matter who they are
D. CEOs often have meals in expensive restaurants

21. The weather in New York was too cold, the freezing Northeast hasn’t been a terrib ly fun place to spend time this winter, so when the chance came for a weekend to Sarasota, Florida, my bags were packed before you could say “sunshine”. I left for the land of warmth and vitamin
C(维生素C), thinking of beaches and orange trees. When we touched down to blue skies and warm air, I sent up a small prayer of gratefulness. Swimming pools, wine tasting, and pink sunsets (at normal evening hours, not 4 in the afternoon) filled the weekend, but the best part- particularly to my taste, dulled by months of cold- weather root vegetables- was a 7 a.m. adventure to the Sarasota farmers’ market that proved to be more than worth the early wake-up call.
The market, which was founded in 1979, sets up its tents every Saturday from 7:00 am to 1 p.m, rain or shine, along North Lemon and State streets. Baskets of perfect red strawberries, the red-painted sides of the Java Dawg coffee truck; and most of all, the tomatoes: amazing, large, soft and round red tomatoes.
Disappointed by many a broken, vine-ripened(蔓上成熟的) promise, I’ve refused to buy winter tomatoes for years. No matter how attractive they look in the store, once I get them home they’re unfailingly dry, hard, and tasteless. But I homed in, with uncertainty, on one particular table at the Brown’s Grove Farm’s stand, full of fresh and soft tomatoes the size of my fist. These were the real deal- and at that moment, I realized that the best part of Sarasota in winter was going to be eating things that back home in New York I wouldn’t be experiencing again for months.
Delighted as I was by the tomatoes in sight, my happiness deepened when I learned that Brown’s
Grove Farm is one of the suppliers for Jack Dusty, a newly opened restaurant at the Sarasota Ritz Carlton, where- luckily for me- I was planning to have dinner that very night. Without even seeing the menu, I knew I’d be ordering every tomato on it.
25. What did the author think of her winter life in New York?
A. Exciting.
B. Annoying.
C. Relaxing.
D. Boring.
26. What made the author’s getti ng up late early worthwhile?
A. Visiting a local farmer’s market.
B. Breathing in fresh air.
C. Walking in the morning sun.
D. Having a swim.
27. What can we learn about tomatoes sold in New York in winter?
A. They are soft.
B. They are juicy.
C. They taste great.
D. They look nice.
28. What was the author going to do that evening?
A. Go to a farm.
B. Check into a hotel.
C. Eat in a restaurant.
D. Buy fresh vegetables. 参考答案:
25-28DADC。
