About Jinan, China
Jinan located in the Mideast of China, its south is Tai Mountain and its north depends to the Yellow River. As the capital of Shandong province, Jinan is the centre of whole province in politics, economies, culture, research, education and communication. Jinan’s total area is 8177 square kilometers, and it has a permanent population of 7,000,000.
Located in the middle-latitude zone, J inan’s weather is m oderate, seasons are clear here. 60% precipitation of the whole year is concentrated in summer. The weather of Jinan in October is the most comfortable throughout the year with the average temperature of 21.9℃.
Jinan provides a link of communication between east and north part of china, it is one of the important transportation hub connecting the East, North, as well as central and western regions of China. Jinan possesses geographical location, convenient transportation, and complete infrastructural facilities, which is the highway network centre of Shandong province and freeway hub of China. Various kinds of public transportation medias can be selected to come to Jinan, such as airplane, train, and coach.
Jinan is a famous ancient city with a long history located in the downstream Yellow River, and it is named of “hero capital city of QiLu” as well as “famous city right to the sea” historically. Jinan is also a place where famous litterateurs gather together, it has formed Quancheng culture taking the
Longshan culture, the big Shun culture, the famous spring culture and the famous litterateur culture as main characteristic since a long time. Additionally, glorious history of city construction, rich culture archeology, and numerous historic locations make Jinan a famous historical and cultural city in domestic and foreign.
Jinan possesses a special geographical feature, which is a mixture of mountains, springs, lakes, and rivers. It is called the
"Spring City" of China since the bubbling waters of 72 famous springs distributed in its old city zone. The ancients describe d this beautiful city as “every family has spring and door to door has weeping willow”. According to the distribution, water quantity, geology structure and the runoff features of the springs, four spring groups in downtown and six spring groups in suburban area of Jinan are divided respectively with different spring centers.
Among the first batch of China excellent tourism city, there are three famous scenic spots in Jinan’s city card, which are the Qianfo Mountain, Baotu Spring, and Daming Lake.
Qianfo Mountain stands in the south of the city proper and was called Mount Lishan in the old times. From 581 to 600 A.C., Buddhism was in trend and thousands of stone Buddhist sculptures were engraved on the mountain. From then on, it took the name of Qianfo Mountain. Main peak of the mountain is 280m above sea level. There are many big stones, temples, pavilions, and terraces dotted on the mountain.
Baotu Spring is the best one among the 72 famous springs in Jinan, which is regarded as “the first spring under heaven”. The spring water spurts out in three prongs, with water droplets falling around, just like three piles of snow, which is very spectacular. The spring water is very sweet, optimum for making tea, which is limpid in color, rich in aroma.
Daming Lake, where all springs flow together, is one of the biggest lakes in Jinan. It is located at the center of Jinan’s urban area. In 13 century, the Italian traveler, Mark Polo marveled here as "what a beautiful landscape of lake and rocks." In the center of the lake perches the Lixia Pavilion, upon which hangs the name scroll written by a famous ancient emperor Qianlong.
Besides, there are many original, novelty, and energy efficiency modern architectures located in Jinan, such as Shandong Provincial Museum and Jinan Olympics Sports Center.
South from Jinan about 70 kilometers is Tai'an City. Taishan Mountain which is well known in the world is located in its north.Taishan Mountain, a typical representative of the Chinese famous
traditional mountains, is a mountain with a long history and a special historic status. In 1982, Taishan Mountain was up into the list of State key scenic spots and was formally listed in the directory of "World Natural and Cultural Heritage" in 1987. It becomes a precious heritage of human being.
The total area of the Taishan Mountain is 426 square kilometers with a circumference of 80 kilometers. Taishan Mountain has 72 majestic peaks, magnificent waterfalls, centuries-old pines and cypresses and fascinating rocks. The main peak of Taishan Mountain is the Jade Emperor Peak, which rising 1,545 meters above sea level. The Taishan Mountain is an early birthplace of China's ancient civilization and the area around was one of the ancient China's political, economic and cultural centers, it is the symbol of spiritual culture of China and the unique heritage of the world. This superior condition helps Taishan Mountain gain the first position among the Five Famous Mountains in China.
Scenic spots of Taishan Mountain include Longtan Reservoir, Zhongtian Gate, Five Doctor Pine, Duansong Hill, 18 Turns, South Gate to Heaven, Bixia Temple, Zhanglu Terrace, Sun Watching Peak, Moon Watching Peak. The four wonders of the Taishan Mountain are Sun Rise from the East, Golden Belt Along the Yellow River, Beautiful Sunset and the Sea of Clouds.
From Tai'an City go south about 60 kilometers is Chufu, the hometown of Confucius who is the first one of ten greatest historical cultural celebrities in the world. Located in Chufu, which includes the Mansion, Temple and Cemetery of Confucius, enjoys a worldwide fame as a traditional Chinese cultural site. In 1994, they were listed as world cultural heritage sites.
The Mansion of Confucius is the living quarters of the first grandson of Confucius. With an area of 160,000 square meters, the mansion has nine courtyards with 463 rooms. The mansion stores more than 9,000 volumes of files from 1534 to 1948 and great quantities of rare and precious cultural and historical relics. The Temple of Confucius served as a place for worshipping Confucius in various dynasties. It covers an area of 218,000 square meters and is 1,120 meters in length. There are nine courtyards and 466 rooms. Dacheng Hall is the main hall where Confucius was worshipped. The Cemetery of Confucius is the Confucius family cemetery. It takes up 1.998 million square meters and around it there is a 7,000 meters-long hedge. The tomb of Confucius is 6.2 meters high and has a circumference of 88 meters.
Jinan, Taishan Mountain and Chufu form one of the most important tour routes of Shandong province named mountain water and sage route, among which the water just represents springs of Jinan.
