Susan Scott, 71, is glad that she didn't think about her age when she took up bodybuilding at the age of 59.
“I reinvent myself every ten years. I started my 60s as a bodybuilderand now I'm beginning my 70s as a writer,” she said. “People usually limit themselves by age, and it's discouraging. With age, I remain young at heart.”
Dr Susan started bodybuilding at an age when most are considering retirement though she was an athlete from an early age. As a child in Venezuela, she took to gymnastics and later graduated with a physical education degree.
Then she obtained a master's degree in education and later a Ph. D. in Adult Personal Development. She taught at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for 16 years, while raising two daughters.
“I started bodybuilding when I met Steve Pfiester, a gym guy who practiced yoga. He invited me to his gym and offered to train me. I started in January and in June he took me to my first competition in Bradenton, Florida,” she recalled.
Dr Susan's photos show that she has devoted long hours to taking care of her body. But she also develops her mind and spirit. On any given day, she gets up at 3 am to read books. At 4:30 am she's out to walk three miles and run another three. This is followed by yoga and a swim at the beach while the sun rises. After writing her journal and working on her book between 8 and 10 am, she hits the gym for at least two hours. “I don't lose track of time,” she said.
Dr Susan's war on ageism has rubbed off on her two daughters, both in their early thirties. “They both take care of their bodies and minds. If you give them a good foundation as a parent, you know that they will always come back to their roots. I tried to remind myself of that during their difficult teen years.”
4. What's Dr Susan's opinion on age?

There will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans by 2050. That is what a new report from the World Economic Forum and Ellen MacArthur Foundation warns. If the current trend continues, the report said, oceans will contain one ton of plastic for every three tons of fish in 2025. By 2050, plastics will weigh more than fish. The problem is that each year at least 8 million tons of plastics end up in oceans around the world. This is the same as dumping the contents of one garbage truck into the ocean every minute.
Not all plastic ends up in the ocean because someone throws a plastic bottle into the water. Plastic containers and other trash thrown onto streets and sidewalks often are swept into oceans. Unlike other types of trash in the ocean, the plastic never bio-degrades. There is a way to slow the amount of plastics going into the oceans — people can recycle more. Currently only about 14 percent of plastics are recycled. Research in Europe shows as much as 53 percent of plastic could be recycled using available technology. The report says that another solution is using less plastic for packaging products. But that is not likely to happen.
“Given plastic packaging’s many benefits, both the possibility and desirability of an across-the-board dramatic reduction in the volume of plastic packaging used is clearly low, ”the report said. But the authors note reducing the use of plastics should be tried“where possible. ”For decades, scientists warned that plastics are killing fish. Research shows that fish are dying from choking after eating plastics. Another cause of death is that plastics
cause“intestinal blockage and starvation, ”the environmental group said.
12. Why is the garbage truck mentioned in Paragraph 1 ?
A. To explain how plastics end up in the ocean.
B. To warn people against the ocean pollution.
C. To clarify the seriousness of the problem.
D. To point out some details of the report.
13. Why is plastic more dangerous than other types of trash?
A. There is too much of it.
B. It poisons the ocean water.
C. It is from different sources.
D. It is hard to break down.
14. What is the author’s attitude to the suggested solutions?
A. Pessimistic.
B. Curious.
C. Unconcerned.
D. Terrified.
15. What can we infer from the text?
A. People are not aware of the problem.
B. Recycling is limited by lack of technology.
C. Plastic packaging has become part of our life.
D. Fish in the ocean will be replaced by plastics.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

选项中有两项为多余选项How long does a year last?____16____Your parents might say that a whole year can pass―in the blink of an eye. Why does time seem to pass faster as we get older?
___17___This physical change causes the rate at which we take in and process new information to decline. Babies, for example, move their eyes much more often than adults because they're processing images at a faster rate. They take in a lot of information and do many things in a single day.____18____However, as people's brains degrade over time, fewer images are processed in the same amount of time. Therefore, older people receive less information during a day than younger people. This causes things to seem as though they're happening more quickly.
___19___People may measure time by the number of memorable events that can be recalled within a certain period. Have you ever noticed that when you recall your firsts, they seem to be in slow motion? That's because when something is a first, there are many exciting things to remember. Recalling these memories makes you feel like they took forever.
For many adults, life is routine. When they look back, they might feel like there are not many novel things to remember.____20____
A. Children might say that a year lasts forever.
B. Different people have different feelings toward time.
C. Therefore, time seems to be moving faster to them.
D. As we grow older, we become less interested in new things.
E. This makes them feel like a single day lasts for a long time.
F. According to scientists, our brains degrade and change over time.
G. In addition, people may also feel time differently due to psychological reasons.
